Julian Lewis has been benched in the Colorado football team’s Big 12 opener.

The 19-year-old QB had a rough first half in which the Buffs scored just three points. Utah transfer Isaac Wilson is the next man up. Lewis completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 75 yards before being benched, but those numbers actually sound better than they looked.

Most of Julian Lewis’ 11 completions were screen passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. He nearly threw two INTs, looked unsettled in the pocket and was sacked three times. Colorado was 1-for-7 on third down in the first half.

Lewis was given the first half to prove himself after a disappointing performance last week vs. Northwestern.

It remains to be seen if Wilson is the permanent answer for Deion Sanders, but he certainly gives Brennan Marion’s Go-Go offense a willing runner at QB. Julian Lewis’ unwillingness to run/use his legs has hampered what this offense can truly be.

This is a delicate situation worth monitoring.
