There’s no shortage of belief in the Colorado football locker room.
Even after four straight losses, Deion Sanders and the Buffs remain optimistic in large part due to their performances the last two weeks. Colorado had a lead late in the third quarter on No. 12 Texas Tech and No. 11 Utah in back-to-back games.
The ability to go toe-to-toe with College Football Playoff contenders has Coach Prime feeling confident despite the Colorado football team’s 2-4 record.
“It builds confidence,” Deion Sanders said Tuesday of the near comeback vs. No. 11 Utah. “We still have a ways to go offensively as well as defensively. But it was a good sign that we can score.
“When we can score, we can beat anybody in the country. We just have to score the football.”
The Buffs are still the lowest-scoring team in the Big 12 (19.5 points per game) entering Week 8 but their 24 points vs. Utah were the most they’ve scored against a Power 4 opponent so far this season.
Isaac Wilson made his second consecutive start at QB for the Colorado football team and nearly engineered an improbable comeback against his former team. The Utah transfer threw for 256 yards and two TDs but a costly INT with five minutes left (down just 20-17) in the fourth quarter helped his former team seal the win.
“He knows better than to throw a ball like that in that situation,” Deion Sanders said Tuesday of Wilson’s fifth INT in two starts this season. “But he played good enough for us to win. He didn’t get down on himself, he didn’t cry. He just fought back and tried to get it done.
“That’s why we have confidence in Isaac.”
Coach Prime isn’t the only one who sees something special hidden behind the Colorado football team’s 2-4 start. Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris will welcome the Buffs to Stillwater this weekend and he recognizes just how close they are to breaking through.
“They might be the best two-win team in the nation,” Eric Morris said of Colorado on Tuesday. “They’ve been in these games. They’re a play away from making it happen.”
