PULLMAN, Wa. – Just when you thought the Buffs couldn’t get any more frustrating on the road, they go and do something like this. . . And totally redeem themselves.

The Colorado Buffaloes avenged Wednesday’s ugly loss in Seattle on Saturday night, defeating the Washington State Cougars 75-70 and earning the ever-so-coveted road-split.

George King led the way for the Buffaloes with 22 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Josh Scott supplemented that with 11 of his own along with eight rebounds. On the other side, Ike Iroegbu poured in 27 and was complimented by an unsuspecting 18 on 8-of-9 shooting from Connor Clifford.

If you take away the fact that it was, in fact, a road win, the single most beautiful thing in all of college basketball, it was a fairly ugly win for the Buffaloes. Colorado shot just 39-percent from the field while allowing the Cougars to shoot just under 50-percent, a far cry from where Tad Boyle wants to see things. The Buffs also fell short of Boyle’s desired rebounding numbers, only out-boarding the Cougs by four.

With all that said, the Buffs found a way to win, and have I mentioned it was on the road? They got hot for a short period in the first half, went on a 16-0 run and, largely, rode the advantage garnered in that run all the way to the finish line, only falling behind for a brief moment halfway through the final period.

With many of the stat categories going in the wrong direction for Colorado, one can’t help but look to the free throw column of the box score as a big reason for the win. The Buffaloes shot 22-of-26 from the charity stripe while the Cougars shot just 16-of-27. Colorado also hit them when it mattered most, with Xavier Talton (96% from the season) and George King both going 2-for-2 in the waning moments to ice the game for Colorado.

Colorado returns home at 15-5 on the season and 4-3 in conference, they’ll play host to the Northern California schools next week.

George King

King got hot early for the Buffs and helped them dig out of a hole they had begun to dig. His four threes seemed to all come at opportune times for CU.

In the end, the 22 points from King accounted for 30-percent of the Buffs offense, that’ll get you player of the game honors.
