Buffs Game Grades: No offense, but no offense

The Colorado Buffaloes got shutout by the Washington State Cougars 28-0 in incredibly poor weather conditions. The Buffs bit the injury bug and struggled to get anything going on offense so how did each player perform?  Let’s find out…

Offense

Sam Noyer (QB) – C+

Noyer came in relief for Steven Montez, for an unknown reason, and actually did an admirable job. He didn’t do anything special but he looked better than Montez and that’s going to make some Buffs fans happy.

Phillip Lindsay (RB) – B

Phil wasn’t the same Phil. It seemed like he had enough creases to break a couple of runs but he wasn’t able to do that on Saturday night and struggled to have any big gains.

Shay Fields (WR) – D

It appears like Fields is still struggling to get much separation on his deeper routes. He wasn’t thrown to very often and had a couple of key drops. He had an abysmal two receptions on nine targets.

Bryce Bobo (WR) – C+

Bobo didn’t have the same type of dominance that he had against Oregon State. He did break a few tackles when he got the ball in his hands and continues to rack up his yards after the catch.

Devin Ross (WR) – C

Ross led the team in receptions and receiving yards. But he had just four receptions on 13 targets and continues to have drop problems.

Jay MacIntyre (WR) – D+

MacIntyre was ineffective in this game. It’s been a disappointing last couple of games for MacIntyre as he’s been targeted less than five times in the last three games.

Offensive Linemen – D+

With Jeromy Irwin ejected and Jonathan Huckins injured it doesn’t make a ton of sense to grade them individually. They clearly struggle to protect the quarterback and it doesn’t look like they’re going to have a solution this season.

Defense

Leo Jackson III (DE) – A-

Leo Jackson continues to play really well on a defensive line that continues to struggle. On this night he had four tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss and .5 a sack.

Chris Mulumba (DE) – C-

Mulumba continues to struggle to stop the run but he hasn’t gotten better at rushing the passer and combined was able to combine with Jackson for a sack.

Drew Lewis (ILB) – B

Lewis led the team in tackles yet again on Saturday and continues his standout junior season. He finished with seven tackles and another quarterback hurry.

Rick Gamboa (ILB) – C-

Gamboa didn’t have his best game on Saturday night. He struggles to stop teams that spread out because he doesn’t have the speed to follow run sideline to sideline.

Ryan Moeller (Buff) – B

Moeller quietly had one of his better games of the season. He racked up seven tackles and looked really good making tackles in the open field.

Afolabi Laguda (FS) – C+

Laguda didn’t have to do all that much considering he was tasked with making sure they weren’t beat over the top. They were beat once and he only had one tackle.

Evan Worthington (SS) – B

Worthing continues his stellar junior season. He made six tackles and was yet again all over the field.

Trey Udoffia (CB) – B

Udoffia came in relief of Isaiah Oliver and did a really nice job. He made a couple of plays on the ball that really just showed off his amazing ball skills. He had one pass breakup but overall it was difficult to throw in his direction.

Dante Wigley (CB) – B+

Wigley has played very well since he started to get more playing team. He had three tackles tonight and three pass breakups.
