Buff Alums and TBT launch contest, fundraising campaign

The Colorado Buffs Alumni team has a real chance to win a million dollars in The Basketball Tournament.

“The squad is strong,” said team general manager, Beau Gamble. “As most people probably know by now, we were able to add Richard Roby to the roster, and in my mind, he was the last piece we needed to be a real contender.”

In addition to Roby and Gamble, the Buffs roster consists of Marcus Hall, Austin Dufault, Sabatino Chen, Julius Ashby, Jeremy Adams, Marcus Relphorde, Marcus King-Stockton, and Dwight Thorne II.

But as they did in the voting process, the Buffs need your help again. The team has to acquire funding for their trip to Los Angeles and the first round of the tournament. They are also hoping to gather in Boulder the weekend before for a mini-camp of sorts.

Because of this, the team is asking fans to explore two different ways to help them get on the road, both featuring some good upside.

The first is being put on by The Tournament, that anybody can participate in for free. TBT has partnered with DraftKings and launched a contest happening this Monday where you can win a sponsorship for your team.

Here’s how TBT describes the contest:

“Want to travel with The Colorado Buffs Alumni to regionals in LA? Want to do it for free? Register a new account on DraftKings and reserve your spot to play the TBT DraftKings Sponsorship Contest! If you win, the Buffs win! And you and a friend get a free trip to LA (and a whole bunch of free stuff) to watch us try to win TBT! It’s easy to play: (1) FOLLOW the link in this post (2) REGISTER a new DraftKings account (3) GET your $3 credit (4) WIN this contest! Don’t forget to register and set your lineup before Game 4 of the Western Conference finals (MONDAY NIGHT!)”

Here’s how DraftKings describes it:

“Play for your shot to win a $15,000 DraftKings Sponsorship for your favorite TBT team! The top finisher of this contest will win a sponsorship for the team of their choice. Sponsorship package includes: Hotels ($6,400 stipend) and Airfare ($2,550 stipend), DraftKings designed uniforms, basketball sneakers, custom Rock ‘Em socks, shooting shirts, and iSlides! The prize awarded is not redeemable for cash and must be used for the TBT sponsorship.”

All you have to do is register for the DraftKings Sponsorship Contest at this link, set your lineup before Monday’s Game 4 of the Western Conference finals, and beat the competition. Do that and you could be kickin’ it with Richard Roby, Marcus Hall, Beau Gamble and the rest of the Buffs in LA.

That’s one way you can help the team, but if you aren’t confident in your fantasy basketball skills, they are also offering you a chance to invest in the team, with a promise of a solid return if the team wins.

Gamble has put together a FUNDLY (similar to gofundme) page, where you can donate to the team (Click here).

On the page Gamble states the goal, and the incentive for the fans:

“Help former Buffs pay for travel expenses to play in the www.thetournament.com. whatever amount you put down, you receive DOUBLE in return if we win the $1 Million.

I need to raise around $15,000 to help bring all these former players to Boulder so we can practice and bring new tradition to the Colorado Basketball program. From there, we need money to get guys to LA and a hotel there. This is your chance to give back to the Colorado Basketball Program in a unique way and could turn into a solid investment.

Thank you for your continued support of this program that we all love so much. This is part of the journey and process to the top. I would tentatively like to invite all of you to come out and watch us scrimmage this summer. I’ll give out more details later.”

“I know it seems like a big goal,” said Gamble. “But I really believe in Buff Nation rising up and supporting us, because I know they, like me, believe in us winning this thing.”

“No matter what happens, I think it would be really special to get all these Buffs back together,” he added. “Some of these guys haven’t been back to Boulder since they graduated, no matter what, that has to change.”

Buffs fans have been known to stuff a ballot, now the question is, can they stuff a wallet?
