Bud Black records first ejection of 2017

In the top of the fifth inning of the Colorado Rockies game against the San Francisco Giants, manager Bud Black was ejected for the very first time wearing purple.

He appeared to take exception to a couple of harsh balk calls against his starting pitcher Tyler Anderson. The ejection itself actually took place in the middle of a Trevor Story at-bat.

Black is more known for his humorous and joyful attitude but stated in an interview before the season that BSN Denver sat in on that he could show fire when he needed to, and we saw that for the first time in a Colorado uniform on Friday night.

There are varying opinions on whether or not showing such emotion is necessary, though TV replays don’t even show Black swearing, just saying “let’s play baseball.” There’s almost certainly more to the story than that, but interestingly enough, the Rockies saw some karma go their way immediately, scoring two runs in the inning when Joe Panik dropped the ball trying to tag Tony Wolters out on what looked like it would be an inning-ending double play.

It’s impossible to say if this was causation or correlation, but immediately after their manager was tossed, the Rockies cut the Giants lead in half.
