Scottsdale, AZ – Even outside of the excitement contained within Wednesday’s twenty-four hours of wall-to-wall sports coverage, it has been a rather good time to be a Colorado sports fans in the capital city.

Between the acquisition of a quarterback via trade, the late-game tip-in winner with 0.3 seconds left on the clock, and the first pop of the catcher’s mitt, there was a lot to smile about in Denver in such a short amount of time.

It began shortly before sunrise when Colorado Rockies’ pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training on the heels of the franchise’s first run of consecutive playoff appearances.

A few hours later, the Denver Broncos opted to acquire Super Bowl XLVII MVP Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens for no more than a mid-round draft pick.

To close out the evening, Isaiah Thomas returned to the court for the first time this season and Nikola Jokic sank the Sacramento Kings just before time expired, 120-118.

And say what you will about the Colorado Avalanche and their current eight-game losing streak as of Thursday night,  but only four points separate them from the Minnesota Wild for the eighth spot in the Western Conference.

Now is a great time to be a Denver sports fan.

It may be a biased opinion, but one of the biggest and most passionate Denver sports fans agrees.

You may have heard of him. His name is Kyle Freeland.

Before beginning only the second official day of camp, the Thomas Jefferson High School alum was aglow discussing his athletic brethren of the Mile High City right now.

“It’s awesome. You’ve got four major sports that are all playoff contenders. There’s a lot of good athletics going on in Colorado right now, so it’s fun to definitely watch that.”

Even better than observing this renaissance from the sidelines is actually playing for the inner circle of Denver sports royalty, feeding off the energy of the other teams and becoming the best in town.

“Whenever you’re going about (getting the top billing) with three other major sports in your state, that means you guys are all doing something right. That’s a lot of fun. (It’s about) who’s going to turn the most heads in Colorado.”

The late season collapses by the Broncos and Avalanche didn’t help the cause, but the Orange Crush still have a stronghold on the city and the Avs have one of the youngest and brightest teams in the NHL.

So, while the Nuggets may be the new darlings of the NBA right now, Kyle Freeland and his twenty-four closest friends will be doing everything in their power to inject some more purple into Denver.
