BSN 10: Alexander Kerfoot dishes on his social media likes and dislikes, and more

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Welcome to the second installment of our “BSN 10” series, where we take some time with an Avalanche player and have some fun with some offbeat questions, 10 of them.

This edition has some humorous moments, as you will see. Thanks to the kid from Hah-vahd for doing this, and let’s jump right into it. (The audio of this, which contains the hilarity a little better than I can probably portray in words, is at the end):

Which teammate would you want with you in a dark alley?

“I’ll go with Z (Nikita Zadorov). He can hold his end.”

What’s the hardest course you ever took at Harvard?

“The hardest course I took at Harvard was probably Econometrics. I was an economics major, and Econometrics was this kind of math-based economics class. It was pretty hard.”

What is something popular now that annoys you?

“Hmm. A tough one. I’m not a huge fan of Snapchat. I’m into some of the social media, but not a huge fan of Snapchat.”

You fly in airplanes a lot for a living. Are you, like me, a nervous flyer?

“No, I’m not a nervous flyer. That’s one thing. I’ve flown quite a bit in my life, and I’ve kind of gotten used to it. I would just say (to those who are white-knucklers), they know what they’re doing up there.”

What’s the worst purchase you’ve ever made?

“I don’t know if I would say this is the worst purchase, but some of the guys make fun of me for my car. If you see me rollin’ around, I’ve got a blue Lexus GX 570. The guys aren’t huge fans of it. (Editor’s note: Paul Kariya, in the one year he played for the Avs, drove a Lexus too, and was ribbed unmercifully for it).

If you had intro music, like a baseball player, what would be your song?

“Honestly, I don’t know. But in minor hockey, our team was the Hollywood Huskies, and our walkout song was “Who Let the Dogs Out?”

I once fell to the bottom of a pool when I was about 4 and would have drowned if my dad didn’t jump in, dressed in a full suit, to rescue me. Has anyone ever saved your life with a heroic act?

“No one has single-handedly saved my life. I’ve had a couple of…

(At this point, J.T. Compher, who occupies the next stall over from Kerfoot and lives in a house with him currently, along with Tyson Jost, can’t help himself any longer and blurts out “I’ve saved your life sooo many times. I don’t put peanut butter on your pillow.”

As serious Avs fans know by now, Kerfoot has a peanut allergy, which has been fodder for other locker room kidding already this season).

“I have had a couple allergic reactions, but I wouldn’t call them life-threatening. I have more trouble with people trying to give me peanuts than me eating them.”

What’s the silliest fear that you have?

“I don’t know, maybe heights. I’m not really, but I had to say something. I feel like if you make anyone look over high enough a cliff, they’ll get nervous.”

Do you prefer physical books or ebooks?

“I prefer physical books, but I’m getting more into ebooks. They’re just a little more handy and we travel so much, it’s kind of hard to carry books. But I 100-percent would take a (physical) book every day.”

At this point, after I, as an author of seven books, tell him thanks a lot for depriving me of bigger royalties with the less expensive ebooks, Kerfoot can’t resist a jab back at Compher: “Comph hasn’t read seven books in his whole life.”

What are the three apps you use the most on your phone?

Compher and A.J. Greer can’t help it now: “Besides Tinder?”

“Texting doesn’t count right? OK, so Instagram, then I’d say, if I’m being honest, Twitter and a sports app, where I can check out all the sports.”

Kerfoot doesn’t specify what that sports app is. He was supposed to say “BSN Denver.”

Next time, Harvard boy, next time.
