Interesting. My next question, to try to put some context to the numbers, is how much of this is possibly scheme related? How much COVID-related? How much is coaching-related? Is it likely, or even possible, that Shurmur’s scheme is more difficult for a young QB still learning the ropes in the NFL, compared to the West Coast version the Broncos played last year?

That would explain a mild drop in overall efficiency. It wouldn’t explain a drop of 27 rating points from an efficiency rating that, through six games, was close to the league average. The quarterbacks that had the biggest drops in the last decade either a) proved to be mostly unsuccessful or b) were so wildly successful in their first six games that regression was inevitable. (This happened to Deshaun Watson, who dropped from 108.4 to 88.9. It also happened to Kurt Warner, whose first six starts were at a Mahomes level.)
