Great write up Zac! I have to admit, I have been a passenger on the Chad Kelly hype train ever since we drafted him. I have done my best to temper expectations (and still do), but it is absolutely outstanding to finally be getting some answers to all the “what ifs?” that have haunted me since the Broncos drafted Mr Irrelevant.

Anyone that has seen the Chad Kelly “Don’t Forget About Me” video on YouTube knows the incredible potential that Kelly possesses! (Anyone that hasn’t, needs to!)

I was going to share my “TInfoil Hat” theory with you and RK a long while back, but kept it quiet instead. Now, I have to!
– What if Chad Kelly has been the hope for the future all along?

I know it’s a deep one, but put it all together and it makes perfect sense. Elway’s friendship with Jim Kelly, VJ’s “favorite QB in the draft”, brings in Case who the absolutely perfect QB to mentor Chad both on and off the field (similar physical size and plying style along with impeccable personal character), the lack of interest in pursuing another rookie QB in this year’s draft, John’s “not done swinging and missing” comment, and even the big PR push with Kelly out in the Denver community this offseason – helping rebuild his public image.

Zac & RK, I know you have seen it. Kelly has an absolute CANON for an arm. While that has come to the NFL plenty of times before, it is extremely rare for those canons to also be very accurate. When you wrap that arm up in a package with keen pocket awareness, deceptive mobility, and an insatiable hunger to WIN – you get something VERY SPECIAL. John Elway sees it, but also knows the gamble – specially with Kelly’s early off the field antics while in college. John is playing chess, and potentially setting up the franchise with its future. Mr Irrelevant was a low risk investment, but one that may pay huge dividends.

Great article, Zac! You guys are definitely the best when it comes to covering everything Broncos. Keep up the great work!!

I’ve got a question regarding Paxton…Would you guys say it’s more on Paxton for his lack of progression so far in his career or is it on the Broncos? Three offensive coordinators since he was drafted definitely won’t help the progress of a young QB but at the same time he honestly looks worse than he did as a rookie so it’s kind of tough to wrap your head around. I’ve also heard those rumors that he has never been the first QB in the building or the last one to leave since he was drafted and obviously the rumors about him spending too much time on the Xbox and not in the playbook. I just want to hear what you and RK think on the matter. Either way it’s time for the experiment to be over. Cut your losses and move on.

THanks guys! Keep up the awesome coverage!!!

Wow, THANK YOU!! That means a ton, Jack!!

I think it’s a fair point about 3 different offensive coordinators, but at some point it’s got to fall on the player. They’ve given him many opportunities and he hasn’t taken advantage of them at all.

I do agree it’s time to move on.
