The Broncos defense was pretty irritated on Sunday. They stopped the Chiefs again and again but it didn’t matter because the offense kept giving the ball back to Kansas City in their own territory, and those possessions would lead to field goals.

Six field goal attempts to be exact; five of which successfully went through the uprights. Peyton Manning would throw an interception, the Chiefs would only gain a handful of yards, and then kick a field goal. Rinse and repeat.

Late in the second half, Chiefs running back Charcandrick West caught an 80 yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith. It was the only big play the Broncos defense gave up all day and T.J. Ward wasn’t happy about it. Towards the end of the play, Ward was seen punching Chiefs wideout Jeremy Maclin and was ejected shortly after.

This is the second week in a row that the Broncos were called for a questionably dirty personal foul but Ward feels that the Chiefs were the dirty team here, not the Broncos.

He told BSN Denver after the game, “I didn’t really mean to punch him. I don’t even think I punched him, if you see it. It looked like a wind-up so you can take it how it is.” He added, “There was a lot of things going on that you guys weren’t able to see and I lost control.”

Ward who was calm but visibly upset said, “They are a pretty dirty team. All the O-lineman, receivers, and tight ends were doing it last game, they continued to do it this game, and it took an effect on me.” According to Ward, this was something that they did all game.

“They were doing cheap things all game,” Ward continued. “He (Maclin) tried to cheap shot me again where it was obviously a touchdown already and I got hot. ”

Ward ended the media session saying, “It was frustrating but we were capable of getting those stops for our team.”

Ward was right about the stops. Other than the 80-yard pass to Charcandrick West out of the backfield, the Broncos shut down Kansas City’s offense. The Chiefs most prolific receiver was De’Anthony Thomas who only recorded 37 receiving yards. Travis Kelce was right behind him with 36 yards.

Frustrated or not, this is the second week in a row that a member of the Denver Broncos has lost their cool late in the game, and like most things, it will not be tolerated by the public when it happens while the team is losing.

Wins fix all and the Broncos will have a chance to do that next week in Chicago at 11:00 a.m. MT.
