The Denver Broncos Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg early Sunday morning in Dallas, Texas as first reported by WFAA-TV. He is currently recovering in a Dallas area hospital but more on the incident has come to light.

Multiple sources close to the situation tell BSN Denver that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. While an NFL source confirmed that the injury did not require major surgery, the self-inflicted wound will have possible legal and professional ramifications for the 30-year old cornerback.

Initial reports said that multiple people were involved in an argument at the Dallas area V Live nightclub and multiple people were shot at or near the scene. The incident report involving Talib has not yet been released.

UPDATE: Rebecca Lopez from WFAA TV in Dallas has seen the incident report and it supports our sources version of events. Lopez said, “Police report states bullet entered through the rear of Aqib Talib’s right thigh and exited out his right calf.” 

The NFL will certainly be looking into the matter and Talib’s history both on and off the field will likely not help his cause. He has recently been suspended for actions on the field and has also been involved in multiple gun-related incidents off of the field, as recently as April of last year.

Sunday afternoon the Broncos released the following statement:

“We are in communication with Aqib Talib, who remains at a Dallas area hospital for observation as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered to his lower right leg on Sunday. He is expected to be released from the hospital soon, and we are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.”

“Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on the matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate”

Talib is expected to be released from the hospital on Monday but will not be able to join the team on their visit to the White House.
