Anyhow, I’m a nerd of many flavors and so I was listening to an economics podcast. My mind quickly returned to thinking about NFL quarterbacks though because all roads lead to Deshaun Watson.

The NFL has spent the last several years creating a quarterback friendly game. It started with the desire for a flashy passing game but then safety concerns kept adding to it. This has created a major supply and demand problem.

This podcast, the shadow GM of the Broncos, has offered nearly any price for Watson. That sounds like inflation to me. What really sounds like inflation though is Prescott getting $40 million per year. And here I thought Flacco got overpaid after that super bowl!

The NFL can fix this in one of two ways. They can reduce demand by changing the rules to be less quarterback friendly. That seems unlikely though.

The only other option I can think of would be to create a developmental league. They need to increase the supply of viable quarterbacks. They need to cut inflation!

Right now too many teams are uncompetitive because they don’t have a quarterback. Players at other positions make less because the quarterback eats up all the cap space. Teams force quarterbacks onto the field early because once they get past that first contract become unaffordable. None of that is good.

Also, everybody take a drink for the cost controlled quarterback!

Any sense of what the NFL is doing about this right now? This probably isn’t something to do in a pandemic but maybe in 22 or 23?

I’m a bit confused, even if Denver doesnt want Phil or the other RFA’s, why wouldn’t they still place 2nd round tag on them and then trade them? With 3.5 million being under market value in a cash strapped year i assume they could get a better than normal return (maybe a 4th?) instead of putting an original round tender on them and getting nothing.

Hey guys! We’re starting to see how the lowered salary cap is already impacting teams like the Chiefs. However, an article by Dan Graziano with ESPN suggests the cap could be at least $20 million higher next season. So if you were a GM, how could you play 3D chess with contracts and free agents to gain an advantage over these cap strapped teams?

Entering the legal tampering zone…. These next couple weeks are going to be great.

But not as great as Mase and Zac giving the Aussie accent a go. That was pure greatness. I went back and listened a 2nd time. It was so fun. Zac quietly did a pretty good job on maybe the dingo ate my baby. And Mase, you did good with down UNDA. You adjusted to that without me spelling it to assist.

If RK is on the pod, he should give it a go. “Mibe thur Dingow eight yuur bayby”…. try it that way. Then we can put up a poll and maybe Zac can finally win one. 😉

Pop Tarts, Hot Pockets and Aussie accents are all vital in this world. Let me know if when this one is done, if you want a rematch as it’s a bloody hoot. (funny as).

Back to Broncos, priorities for the next few weeks till draft day:
1. Resign Shelby Harris
2. Come to an agreement with Von
3. Place the 2nd round tenders on all 3
4. Extend Kareem Jackson, but with an out after 2 years
5. Work out long term deal with Justin Simmons (not a rush, as we have till July 15)

Jamies Winston or Gardner Minshew are the only QB’s that tick my box. Gardner is the ultimate cost control QB….

NO shovelling snow, get a snow blower. My years in Omaha taught me that quick.

If we draft a QB like Lance, which I’m in favor of, do we keep Lock too? I can see both sides, but personally I’d move on from Lock and sign a veteran until Lance is ready.

This team is ready and I am hoping that drew understands he had no choice but to deliver go to training camp ready to beat out whomever however step on that field week one Ready !!!

P.s. it was time too elway to step down but we’re gonna lock back at these drafts and realize the “elway can’t draft ” is a myth from 2016 til now he’s either drafted an all pro….

Hey guys, salary cap question. The chiefs were able to restructure mahomes and kelce to free up cap space this year without adding any additional years to their contract.
Is this them “kicking the can down the road” or is there something else I’m missing? Thanks!
