Hey guys!
1) Did Phillip Lindsay just become Matt Duchene?
And 2) last year, we started going through a list that we didn’t get a chance to finish. Take off your reporter cap, and grab your fan hat. We went around the NFL, by division, to discuss our teams’ greatest game against other teams, and to determine the greatest game against that division. For example, while Tebow-Thomas maybe have been the best game against the steelers, the best AFC north game went to The Drive. We left off with the NFC north. So what was the best game against the Chicago Bears for the Broncos and Mase’s Bucs? Was it John Elway and Jim McMahon’s legendary duel in ’87? Another OT Tebow thriller? Or does something else come to mind? And for the Bucs, does the Battle of Broncos, Brian Greise and Kyle Orton duking it out in 2008 take the cake? Or perhaps one of the absolute beatdown shutouts represent the best? Something else?
Andrew Mason
For me personally, the Week 17 game of 1999 between the Bucs and Bears is hard to top. The Bucs clinched their first division title in 18 years that day. But it was also a sad day, because Paul Gruber, the Bucs’ left tackle for 12 years suffered a broken leg that ended his season — and, after a slow healing process, his career. Not long after that, Gruber retired to Colorado; he’s lived in Edwards for about 20 years.

Fellas,
Is there any chance that the NFL would ever change their overtime format to what they do in college?

With McManus and Purcell converting their roster bonuses to signing bonuses, and all the free agency moves, where does the salary cap sit at?

It’s been a while since I’ve commented but I had to ask, when did this become the DNVR Phil Lindsay podcast? To me, some of the Bronco “fans” in the comments are telling on themselves when they describe how they would rather see Phil destroy our defense if/when he ever comes back to play here. I’d imagine that there is lots of love for Phil in the locker room but if it comes to the D vs Phil, I’m putting money on the Broncos D all day, everyday. Don’t get me wrong, I like Phil, but he’s a good, not great, running back who never proved himself in the pas-catching game and can’t pass protect in an age where passing is king in the NFL. I’d put money on our D almost entirely because when Phil comes onto the Mile High field next, there’s a 99.9999% chance the play he’s in on will be a run. Broncos stack the box and Phil ain’t going far. I get the idea of liking a specific player but I’ll never understand turning on your own team because they moved on from a player they didn’t have solid plans for. What’s more, I always hear how teams should play players for what they’re going to do and not what they’ve done or the name on the jersey. To me, rooting for keeping Phil means you’re rooting against Shurmur and the offense succeeding this coming season, and by extension, if you’re doing that you’re also rooting against Vic succeeding. I’ll take Vic, Shurmur, and the offense next season over an average, one-trick pony running back.

*pay players (not play players)
In reference to Phillip Lindsay leaving. This is to be sung to the rhythm of “Pain” by Three Days Grace.
PAIN.
Without Phil.
PAIN.
I’ve had enough.
PAIN.
He plays so rough.
Cuz I’d rather have Phil than Melvin with the baaaaaaalllllllllll.
This is how I feel. That is all…….for now. Keep up the great work fellas!

RK once wrote – “Joe Burrow is the perfect case study to illuminate how wrong the Broncos are to continue trying to run their archaic 1990’s offense… “ I would argue that little has changed.

I have heard big Mase call out his soapbox in the past couple of pods. I love it! It gets me amped. I have a suggestion, (if not already thought of) Can the three of you make a soapbox session of your own in the Podcasts? How awesome would that be?

Like most of Broncos Country, Phil’s departure is a bummer. While I’ll proudly where my Phil Mile High Salute shirt until it disintegrates, it looks like we need a new DNVR shirt (luckily the #58 GOAT stays). Can we look forward to rocking Shelby Harris batting a ball in the red zone??

Heys there guys, hello from Lancashire, England! Broncos just signed Kyle Fuller so what would you like the #broncos to do now in rnd 1? Draft a qb at 9, move back and amass picks, or draft best player available?
Bronco216
Hey guys, this is my first time commenting. My gf signed me up for an account for Christmas, I have been a fan for a few years now and it has been fun to watch it grow. I was thinking it would be interesting at this point (after the Fuller signing) to hear how you guys think things would be lining up right now in free agency and overall if Elway hadn’t moved out of the GM role.
Casper
Fellas,
With a 17 game schedule on the horizon, what single season records do you see getting broken?
Auszee
Most of them. Sadly
MikeDeCicco
Most games played in a season seems ripe to be broken

I like Paton’s mind…. He’s making smart calls. This was a great hire. Finish, the holes At QB and and RB, we can contend.
Orange and Blue all over
Let’s gooooooooo!
Pumped about CB room now – how quickly that changed!
Is Vic starting to have a bit of a qb effect on free agency with defensive guys willing to take a discount to play in his system so they can look better and get paid more on next contract? Shelby last year and Fuller this year.
dbronc
Very disappointed Fuller didn’t get an emergency pod. I guess college basketball comes first…

Zac!! The article on culture change knocked it outta the damn park my man! This is something I’ve been wanting for a while and you guys have discussed extensively, Elway did not promote a culture that encouraged player loyalty or buy in with his negotiating and leadership style.
My only remaining concern (ownership notwithstanding), Fangio’s game management and stubbornness. His rookie year he gets a pass but to cost us two, possibly three games with game management issues and not even consider a change when pressed for answers concerns me. Sometimes his dated way of thinking leads me to wonder if he isn’t cut for head coaching gigs, he comes off as the NFL version of Patches O’Hoolihan from Dodgeball. I can actually totally picture Fangio standing behind the D line at practice chucking wrenches at the running back and yelling “if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a linebacker!”
I’m hoping Paton read him the riot act and gave him the ultimatum that he either continues doing things his way but his job is hanging by a thread or makes some dictates adjustments such as a game manager when defense is on the field, bringing a game analytics specialist back in the building, etc and he’s given a full season of leeway. We have the tools to be a contender, but Fangio has failed to use them properly. Sorry for rambling on this one but I’m curious about y’all’s insight.

I really can’t believe that a pro bowl running back an team leader has no place on the 2021 Broncos lockeroom?♂️… Seriously wtf?
I guess they see Royce as a better choice also? Smh….
Off my disgust for this teams disloyalty and onto my question…
Is there a chance that anyone cut for cap concerns returns to the team? Like Jurrell Casey?
PismoBeachBroncos07
Is Shurmer really more valuable to this team than Phillip Lindsay? If anything his inability to use him should make it more of an indictment on his inability to manage a game or scheme correctly. Don’t even get me started with Lock, although not sure that’s all Shurmer’s fault.
Then Fangio. This team has been undisciplined and subpar on defense, especially with the highest paid defense in the league. Not very impressive from an old school “defensive guru.” The defense was better under Wade Phillips and Jack Del Rio. Then the game mismanagement. This was something that was recurring.
Why didn’t Paton move on from these guys? Is it just the contracts? If anything even if we load the team with talent, isn’t this staff a liability? Dang we need an owner like Pat again.
MikeDeCicco
Of these top five quarterbacks, which is most likely to be a bust and why is it the kid from Alabama (sorry Zac). Also, on Monday at Shermer High School were the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess, and the criminal friends?

Letting Jerry Attoucho go was the acme of foolishness.

I wanted to commend you guys for being fair to George Paton and asking awesome questions during press conferences and covering free agency with optimism ……
Patons thus far has done an awesome Job !
We have roughly 70 million in cap space next year but that’s without
Von Miller
Courtland sutton
Chubb (whose fifth year option you’d have to pick up )
And kyle fuller
Alexander johnson and
Tim patrick
He’s gotta lotta tough decisions to make come next season to keep this team competing for championships and we don’t know if we have our qb yet .
It’s just such Lazy reporting that went on leading up to free agency
& A litany of false information claiming elway is running the show
It’s Like dude are u Kidding me ?nothing about free agency this year is how elway would do things 0 !!!!
But for Christ Sake LOOK AT THIS ROSTER LOOOK AT THIS FREAKING ROSTER ….. Do we have the most important position in football figured out yet No NOT BY ANY MEANS however …look at this freaking roster lol!!!!! ….
I’ll say this…..if this is how george Patton is going to structure team building and personnel ??? I trust him to figure our qb situation out … I’m going to let him handle it
And I’ll say this now …. In his first year he’s a good draft away in 2021 from a …#inpatonwetrust moniker he gets it from me idc
And if we go 11-5 or better he’s Gm of the year …..
Well done George Paton Well Done
And WELL DONE DNVR …for continuing to be honest with no implicit bias or narrative, I believe you can critique this team fairly !!…..
You guys haven’t seen enough from drew to feel confident about him moving forwardand
& ur Damn right getting rid of phillip lindsay because shurmur can’t figure out how to use him was a big mistake by the broncos and DISAPPOINTING to see shurmur not become more creative however
U were fair to Paton and optimistic you didn’t blame him for patterns of a previous regime and I appreciate you guys youve done an awesome job keep up the good work ??
Amirite or Amarillo
Long time, no comment, y’all. It’s that time of year again and I’m all optimism in regards to our beloved Broncos. A healthy Von back in the lineup, Shelby and Justin locked up long term, the signings of Darby and Fuller, a young offense that feels like a powder keg ready to burst into prominence at any moment. Yes, we will surely be competing for that division title this year! Thing is…this is how we felt last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. So how grounded in reality are all these optimistic expectations this year? Are we finally due, or building up our hopes beyond a realistic probable outcome? In your estimation, what’s a realistic expectation for the 2021 Broncos?
Lovethunderdownunder
Well *beep* me that was one hell of an opening week.
I’ve got three for you fine gentlemen;
1. Is it just me, or does it now feel like Phil needs to carry some responsibility in this separation? It feels a lot like he drastically over played his hand and has wound up in a pretty *beep* place. I was frustrated with George, but given the outcome it does seem like Phil demanded more attention than what the market really thinks? Feels wrong to me that both sides couldn’t make something palatable work. Even with an imperfect scheme fit, seems like Phil was worth $3m to the Broncos – but Phil didn’t want the scheme and wanted more, and so wanted out. A sad end.
2. Does Denver’s Defense look better now than it did 12 months ago? Sure feels like it. Outside of Safety, arn’t the defensive groupings better than what we projected them this time last year?
3. Is it ok that I am pumped? It really does feel like this team can take a big step forward if healthy. Surely an improved Drew, or a Shurmured Nick Foles can take Denver to 10-7?
Butch Cassidy
I know there have been a lot of George Paton comments already but I just gotta say I think all of his moves have been made in order to be flexible in the draft. Two weeks ago it was dead Surtan (certain) to me that the Broncos would go corner round 1 but now they can trade up or back or stay at 9 and pick just about whomever they want.
Personally I am Lock believer so I would love for them to stay at nine and double down on corner. Because Darby and Callahan aren’t guaranteed a full season of play. All of this rambling really to ask
Are all these moves George Paton merely filling holes or is he backing Vic by giving him a full cupboard? How much of this is them collaborating together on the direction of this team and do you believe George and Vic are/are going to be more on the same page than Vic and John were?
Some People Call Me The Space Cowboy
The Broncos added three players who all wore 23 in 2020: RB Mike Boone and CB Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller. If he wants to, Ojemudia might now be able to listen to offers for the number, accepting the highest bid.”
What’s the best/funniest transaction you’ve heard a player give for their old number?
Another round of “What’s more Likely?”
1. Von Miller returns to form and gets 15 sacks?
2. Jerry Jeudy and Cortland Sutton both hit 1,100 receiving yards?

My Boys!!
Hope you guys had a great weekend. I sure did, this March Madness has been arguably the best in a long time. My bracket is absolutely screwed, but it is so worth it to see all the upsets. ALSO, the Buffaloes just absolutely destroyed Georgetown, so I was celebrating all weekend. But, also, we got some big Broncos news! Kyle Fuller is coming to Denver. Very happy about this. We all know that he was with Vic in Chicago, so he’s going to fit in great with his defense. But y’all have a ton of comments today, so that’ll be it. Thanks for everything you guys do. Have a great Monday boys!
Much love
Sebastian
