MY BOYS!
I hope y’all are doing incredible. Mase, your idea about a system where teams can get promoted and relegated is THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD. Let me explain. I spend all of the free time I have watching all major American sports and all European soccer. My favorite thing about European soccer is that all leagues in Europe have a promotion/relegation system. Now, I love American sports, but the one complaint I’ve always had is that they don’t have the European soccer system here in any leagues. The system would be so unbelievably exciting. I am so hyped right now thinking about that. Alas, it isn’t a possibility. UNLESS, I dedicate the rest of my life to trying to become the Commissioner of the NFL. When I become commissioner I propose the plan to the fans. The fans fall in love with the idea. The future of American sports will be forever changed. I’m considering that now. Of course, I am only joking. But your idea is absolutely incredible and I’m so happy thinking about the dream. But let’s hop into today’s question.

What do you guys think about Caleb Farley? I absolutely love him, he’s incredibly athletic with really great speed, and he used to be a wide receiver so you know he has great hands. I was thinking we could potentially trade back a few picks and pick him up to gather some draft capital, provided the front office falls in love with him. I would still probably take Surtain by a small margin, but I would be real happy if we obtained some capital and got Farley. After watching some of his tape, he looks like a guy that has a really high ceiling. We should be able to trade with the 49ers and pick up the 12th pick and still be able to get Farley, along with a bit of draft capital. It all kind of depends on how the draft shakes out. But let me know what y’all think, and as always, thanks for everything.
Much love,
Sebastian

Fellas,

Is there typically 1 person on each team who is the “source” for guys like Adam Schefter? Or does he, and others like him, have a few guys around the league that have their own connections to each team?

Bum Talk Friday – Bum Phillips once said “Winning is only half of it. Having fun is the other half.”

The Broncos have had almost neither of those halves in the last 5 seasons. Fans are famished. This is why, along with statistical reasons, I’m on team Minshew. We need a guy who both puts fake mustaches on his own coach and who has a 2/1 td to int ratio.
And, he can throw a football over Longs Peak.

Mase and Zac:
When you guys worked for your respective NFL teams, who hired you? Also, did you guys meet/ know the GMS personally or did they know who you were? My friend thinks it’s amazing that you all actually represented one of the 32.

Hey kings,
For my communications class, I am doing an informative speech on the Denver Broncos. I have it set up to cover 3 different topics- History, present team, and the legacy of the franchise. I have sub topics like the Pat Bowlen era, the super bowl teams of the late 90’s, and the Peyton Manning era. The one I need help with is the pre Pat Bowlen era. Is there any interesting aspects of those 60’s and 70’s teams that don’t get talked about? Any cool facts about Red Miller and the building of the Orange Crush defense? Or cool facts about Floyd Little and his story? You can also recommend any topics that you think could be good to cover as well. Thanks for any input.

Hey guys. Been a while since I commented here but I just got a new dream job as an executive chef and that has been kicking my a$$. Still listening often and love the content.
I have to say that I accessed the old memory bank here and before the season began I remember mase saying that if the bucs went to the super bowl and were able to play in their home stadium and have it be in a year where no fans were allowed “it would be the most bucs thing ever!”
Well we just witnessed it mase! Savor it man! Go Shaq Barrett!

Keep up the awesome content fellas! Drink some breck brews and seize the day!

Geesh I love Dnvr ! Andre and henry’s pod was awesome ! They do such a great job …. I wanted to ask you guys something …. Why do players do interviews with a certain radio station and not more so with you guys or allbright and bronco’s country tonight or mhh …. Hearing the players perspective is the only reason I listen to that radio station and I’m soooo over the hypocrisy … Schreleth is a firm believer in roster building and emphasizes Depth ! And has criticized deeply the lack of Depth on this roster I strongly disagree but respect his opinion …. However he was praising the Rams and the trade for Stafford as if their roster isn’t lacking a HUGE AMOUNT OF DEPTH ! And now they have no draft picks premium ones for the next 3 years ! And little cap space what HYPOCRITE ! Idk I’m just curious why guys like urselves can’t have more player and team interviews ?

So yesterday I was shopping at my local Walmart grabbing some stuff before work. I of course was listening to my beloved DNVR boys Mase and Zac. As I was going down an isle I spot someone wearing the DNVR logo shirt. I paused the pod to tell them that I was listening to the boys and it was a fun moment. I only wish I wasn’t on my way to work or I would loved to chat more or even get a picture. This is big as I live in the Palm Springs area of Southern California so it was a pleasant surprise to see!

Now on to a question only worthy of the off-season pods.. We all know Potato vs POtato. Pet Smart vs Pets Mart….but I have always wondered….

Mase, is it pronounced ‘Mike K-norr’ or ‘Mikea Nor’?! This has bugged me since my teen years of 2002/2006!

My Boys Happy Friday! I hope you all are staying warm on this bitter winter season. It hit -18 last night around 2 am while I was at work and it made me really want to take a vacation to Florida where my family down there was proudly boasting that it was 88 degrees on their beach. Anyways, I loved your guys break down of the corneback positon yesterday. What do you guys think Essang Bassey’s role is next season? Does he fill that Devante Bausby/4th CB position or is competing for a 3rd CB role? Thanks for the Pod as always.

hey guys!

are we overlooking the significance of the christian parker hire? i know he’s ‘just’ a db coach, but doing some digging;

he has very strong ties to the virginia area- as a coach and a recruiter, so goes without saying that he’d be very familiar with all of the top defensive back prospects in that area. parker is also friends with and spent 1 month in 2019 on the packers staff working with ryan smith……who coaches the defensive backs at virginia tech. do y’all see what i’m getting at here? ?

Hey fellas!
You touched on how this off-season is going to look like last off season and that there is a push from the PA to maybe keep it cut down. What would be the benefit of this for anyone? In no sport I have ever played have I thought the notion of less practice was going to result in winning more games.
Will QBs and WRs still get together in the off-season privately?
I know Drew and the guys got together last off season but didn’t the NFL totally discourage it (and then Tom Brady did it anyway)?

I just want to know how this young team will over come the challenges they faced last off season instead of just flipping their wrists and shrugging their shoulders.

Go Drew

MY BOYS! A happy frigidand bum talk Friday to you each. Do you think that the Broncos would consider signing JJ Watt in hopes of persuading Deshaun Watson to force his way to Denver? If the Broncos did sign Watt, that probably spells the end of Shelby Harris as a Bronco, correct? Have a phenomenal Friday and try to stay warm this weekend. DNVRMY SALUTE!

My Peoples!

Two things

1. Texans really are that dumb huh? JUst do us all a favor and accept a single pack of Skittles (Mixed Berry of course) for Watson and send him our way already.

2. RK you asked a couple PODs back about whether a fan base wants to win a championship once a decade and be bad the rest of the time, or just miss out on the title year in and year out but be relevant with lots of wins.

I think as a Utah Jazz fan i can answer that for myself. Id rather miss the Championship and be a top 3 team each year. It gets annoying hearing the “you cant make it over the hump” talks, but i remember so absolutely terrible Jazz teams after the Deron Williams trade. 20 win seasons and what not. Not a great time.

Recently of course watching Utah over the last 4 or 5 years has been the most fun i have had watching them play in my life. (Plus it seems like they will never win a title in my life anyway, so bring on all the regular season wins lol)

Hi Guys,

I’m having a hard time reconciling what I’m hearing about QBs in the 2021 draft and what’s happening in the NFL. I know he’s the consensus standard, and this might be heresy, but I don’t think Mahommes is really that great of a QB. I view him as having an incredible arm, but he’s not the QB Rodgers, Wilson, Brady, or even Allen are. Alex Smith was an MVP in that offense (before Hill broke out as an actual WR, rather than just a gadget guy). How much of Mahommes success is because of him vs the system/team he’s on? His super bowl performance was closer to the experience that most QBs face in the league on a consistent basis (e.g. O-line is like a sieve, WR/TEs are not 10yd open all the time, and bounces go the other way a lot).

I have nothing to really base this on except the mental exercise of imagining what he’d look like on the Broncos, Jets, Texans, Lions, Seahawks, etc for the last few years; and compare that to what many NFL QBs look like when they have a good O-line that gives them time to throw, and great scheming with fast players. The point is, it’s not hard to imagine a lot of average QBs looking really good in the Chiefs offense, but I don’t think you put Mahommes on any other team and expect success…I think you get more of those poor super bowl type performances than MVP play. And, while I’m not sold that Lock can put it all together and be successful in Denver, I also kind of feel, like there wouldn’t be much drop off if he was a Chief. I think Mahommes gets a lot of credit for being a great QB, when he’s closer to an average QB with a great arm, on a high-powered offense with a hall-of-fame OC/HC in Reid.
For example, that side-ways throw at the end of the game (where he was falling down), wasn’t a great throw that nobody else could make…it’s a throw good QBs would never try because it has such a low probability of completion. I watched Jake Plummer throw a legitimate left-handed throw, while in the middle of getting pile-drived, he had the ability to do it, but it was ill-advised. Similarly, Mahommes is lucky both of those “amazing” throws that hit his WR in the face weren’t picked off b/c they also went right threw a DBs hands before hitting them in the face. Last SB, he literally threw one up into the middle of the field where no-one was, without looking…and Hill bailed him out. Again, amazing arm talent, but also he’s had the benefit of playing the last few years on “rookie mode in Madden” where there’s literally zero consequences for bad decisions and his team picks him up and/or the defense never capitalizes on those mistakes.

My point is, that like a lot of guys, I think he’s a top 5 QB under ideal circumstances (e.g. Goff, Wentz, Jackson, Dak, Alex Smith, etc); but under the normal NFL QB circumstances, he’s top 15 maybe. He’s more Steph Curry than LBJ or Jordan. Whereas other QBs in the league, are carrying the team and still playing at a top 5 level (e.g. Wilson, Watson, Rodgers historically). In this most recent super bowl, I believe we saw what it might look like if Mahommes has to carry the team.

This brings me to my next question about Lock; if Mahommes (the supposed standard for awesomeness at QB) can look so pedestrian when put in the same circumstance most QBs play under normally, why is there so little faith that a guy with a big arm and decent athleticism can be a competent QB with a little time? Further, are any of the QBs in this year’s draft really obviously better talents than Lock? I get Lawrence is the physical specimen, but how do we know he’s actually a genius QB? Fields, Wilson, Lance are all athletic guys but arguably all of them (including Lawrence) played on teams that were dominant relative to their competition most of the time. Lock played on one of the worst teams in the SEC and put up similar numbers, but with more starts. What kind of numbers do you think Lock would’ve put up at BYU or SDSU or if he’d played for a team with a bunch of 1st round WRs (looking at you Mac Jones).

It just seems like a lot of QB success in the NFL is more coach/team/scheme dependent than we like to admit, and the QBs that are successful right now, have coaches who put them in the best position to succeed based on what they do well. And, tend to have a good O-line and skill position players. If they don’t have those things, then they have to be amazing at extending plays. If Goff, Wentz, Dak can all be considered potential MVP level QBs, I refuse to believe Lock can’t be a top 10 QB with a little patience. He had an up and down “essentially” rookie year, on a team with inconsistent O-line play and a ton of young skill position players. Kelce bails Mahommes out a lot, the security blanket that is a experienced receiver/go-to guy cannot be understated. And, the Chiefs O-line (prior to recent injuries) is quietly a top 5 unit. And, when you watch the Broncos WR/TE during scramble drill, when Lock would try to extend plays…they’re not working to get open. A lot of times, all but one guy would just be standing watching. There were a lot of clutch throws (even if not perfect throws) Lock made on 3rd and longs this year, that our WRs just couldn’t catch and they were off on their routes a little…a lot of stuff that seems like any QB would have a hard time consistently overcoming. And, I don’t think Shurmur actually tried to build an offense around what Lock does well (now), as much as tried to run his offense and have Lock adapt (until later in the season).

Tell me where I’m wrong, and curious what you make of Tim Jenkins’ assessment of Lock. I’m not saying it’s a given he develops, but he’s certainly got the physical tools, and I can’t quite get the appeal of drafting another toolsy but raw guy (who’s maybe only marginally more athletic/bigger arm) who had similar college accomplishments against lesser competition. And, the notion of drafting Mac Jones is baffling. I get that Brady and Brees have had a ton of success, but both have had the benefit of playing in the same system for years, and both have more physical tools than Jones. What’s his ceiling and doesn’t most likely have to be on a team that’s stacked already? And, if you’re just going to get a guy to run the offense, why spend a first-round pick?

Thanks!
Kevin
