MY BOYS!
Hope you guys are doing great! I’m glad you liked my GOAT list yesterday, that was fun. I have to say sorry for accidentally putting the Larry Byng trophy, it must have autocorrected from Lady Byng for some reason. Also, the only reason that Babe Ruth isn’t on the list is because he never played against Black people in his entire career in the Major Leagues. It’s really, really hard for me to put him on there considering an entire race was excluded, therefore; many incredible baseball players were not allowed to play baseball when he played. Just to be clear, it takes absolutely nothing away from how unbelievably incredible he was at baseball, but I just have trouble putting him on this specific list. Let me know if that makes sense to you guys, and whether or not you agree or at least know where I’m coming from. Since this’ll be the last comment you guys see this week, wanted to tell you guys to have an incredible weekend! Really looking forward to the Three Ring Circus on Friday!! Thanks for everything!
Much love,
Sebastian

Sorry guys, one more thing. Mase, I just today got your book, “Tales from the Denver Broncos Sideline” and I’m super excited to read it! Have a great weekend!

Comrades,

What’s the best/oddest wi-fi name you’ve seen?

The network starkly entitled “FBI” in my hood often throws me for a loop and sends me careening quickly into the bowels of my hallowed crypt to hide all the ancient relics collected under the auspices of immortality. Nobody gets their hands on the Honus Wagner, especially not Johnny Law!

For a long time my Guest WiFi with no access to the home devices was “TheBatcave”.

The password was “QuickRobin”.

I’ll see myself out.

In the media sessions at Super Bowl 50, I used my iPhone to provide WiFi for my laptop and iPad. As a result, I overheard a fellow reporter searching for a WiFi network and commenting, “Love this; a WiFi network named Pendant Publishing.” That was my phone, since all of my devices have names that are “Seinfeld” references.

The million dollar per sack conversation peaked my friend’s interest. What if all players were compensated in such a way per their relevant stats? My friend wants to know, would this work and what stats would you choose per position?

Gentlemen!
Thanks for the response yesterday! I have a question that you guys might know more about than me. Why don’t QBs call plays at the line of scrimmage more often. I feel like this is something the Broncos do less of than other teams. Obviously they have variations of calling multiple plays in a huddle and other basic concepts like that, but I feel that you can really punish teams by seeing matchups, alinement, and what players are doing pre-snap and then make a play call. I can remember a time specifically when the broncos played the fins’ and they were sending the house. The outside receiver at the top of the screen was Jerry with Tim patrick or noah fant in the slot. The corner was standing at the first down line which was 8 yards away. Man you send the slot guy deep to clear out that space and you send Jerry on a one step slant and my goodness the Dolphins still might be chasing Jerry. Instead what happened was they threw a deep out and it was incomplete to Hamilton I think. Anyways, any feedback is appreciated!

Fellas,

If you ask someone who mediates deals between 2 parties, they will say the best ones are where neither party is fully happy. If you apply that to a Watson trade then it would be where Denver feels they gave up just a bit too much, and Houston feels they didn’t get enough in return. A deal for Watson is going to hurt, but you can’t make a Denver omelet without cracking some eggs.

How say you?

Good Day, Good Sirs!

The Alex Smith conversation got me thinking.

To Recap:

1. Benjamin Albright keeps saying that there’s more belief in Drew Lock inside the building than there is in Broncos Country.
2. George Paton seems to be, strangely enough, an honest-with-the-media GM (from what I’ve seen).
3. Mr. B
4. George Paton said “Draft and Develop” is how he views building a football team.

Here’s my thought:
A hedge with upside *isn’t* what the Broncos need. What the Broncos need, to better develop their drafted talent, is a QB who will actually help the kid out. He got robbed of the opportunity for a true “older QB mentor” like Alex Smith was for Patrick Mahomes when the Broncos signed the statue of Joe “It’s not my job to teach other quarterbacks” Flacco.

Smith, Dalton, Fitzmagic, or someone else – but someone who will help the Broncos get the best out of Drew rather than trying to find his replacement.

That seems more in keeping with “Draft and Develop” to me.

Being a Broncos fan from California has it upsides and downsides, but today might be the worst yet! RK is making the Brek Brew hard seltzer’s sound like the next coming of Olympus’ Ambrosia, and when I go to the Breck Brew beer locator there are no locations within 100 miles that carry it! I’ve never gotten a taste for beer, and have instead turned to hard Ciders for years (Mase and I see eye to eye on that I think). Seltzer’s are getting more popular, but haven’t found one that really stands out. We gotta tell the folks at Breck that the fans from SoCal need some love too!

PS, Von Miller deserves all the money for what he did for us in SB50, letting him go now would be unfortunate. Just my 2 cents.

Fellas, I must be the only one who loves The Waterboy. My wife hates that movie too ? oh well.

Okay I’m going to say something that will get a lot of hate. I love JJ Watt as a player and person but I don’t get all the hype about being a first ballot hall of famer. In fact I’m not sure he even gets the nod! Let’s be honest he’s a really good player but he hasn’t been out of the first round of the playoffs! He is in the hall of really really good. He’s never lead his team and dominated through the playoffs and taken over the super bowl like Von Miller. It’s just hard for me to take that leap when his impact for his team was never realized in meaningful games. Again I love the guy and he’s the perfect pro/role model but NOT a HOFer.

P.S. Eli has a better resume for the HOF and he is not a HOFer either!!

Hey guys, been listening for a few months now and decided to subscribe. Mainly to defend my great state of Wyoming. It takes a different type of breed to live here and but y’all are right about the wind and the beautiful views.
So for my question, with all the trade talks surrounding Watson is there one player who’s untraceable in your opinion, or is anyone up for sale to grab Watson or in general.

Thanks for helping me get through my night shift, having y’all to listen to really helps the night go quick. I hope you’ll reconsider Wyoming as being one of the worst states. We’re great people with great views. Cheers!

To follow up on the pop-tart discussion, for the record Mase I also love strawberry pop tarts, top 3 flavor for sure, I just took umbrage with the disrespectful dismissal of hot fudge sundae. And if it makes you feel better I consistently see strawberry pop tarts ranked highly in polls and lists.

But I also have to come for you once again Mase. I don’t think hot fudge sundae is a fad flavor like froot loops, red velvet, etc. It’s been around for 15 years – a decade and a half! They’re newer than lots of the original flavors, but they have a decently long track record.

Finally, to get to some Broncos discussion (sort of). I believe Xavier Rhodes was mentioned a few pods ago as an option for the Broncos. Can we keep Xavier Rhodes as far away from this team as possible? He may have done okay last year, but he was awful to a degree rarely seen in football the year before. Watch tape from that year with the Vikes, he plays like Issac Yiadom at his absolute worst/lowest if Yiadom also had the athleticism of Peyton Manning and the decision-making skills of Jack Easterby and Cal McNair. One better year doesn’t erase one of the worst years we’ve probably seen from any CB in the past decade. Vikings fans were dying to get him off the team, I can’t overstate how much of a red flag Rhodes is. I’m being slightly hyperbolic and I’m sure he’s a fine dude outside of football, but let’s not bring Rhodes in as anything but a CB4 or lower.

hey guys!

so the broncos had a virtual pre-draft meeting with rondale moore. now, there’s no guarantee there’s legitimate interest and it could just be a smokescreen, but i’m not opposed to them taking a receiver high……although, if they were going to, i’d rather they took a prototypical x receiver to hedge their bets on courtland not recovering from his injury and sutton and tim patrick being in contract years.

how would y’all project him on the offense if the broncos did end up taking him? he’s an extremely dynamic player but he’s also had his share of injuries (including hamstring injuries) and he has a drop problem. i’m a big fan of moore but i’m not sure how he would fit with the team. what do y’all think?

So when Deshaun Watson becomes a Bronco!!! (Stop smiling RK)…… We get a low cap hit in year 1. Allows us to absorb Ju’waun James and Glasgow’s contract’s. His cap hit goes up next year, but they become a bit more available to move on from. Muti and Franklin might be able to step in. Offset, some of the cap hit with the cheaper players. So, what do you guys think? Do those two have a chance to take over at low cost and allow us not to be cap stressed?

From the limited views of these players, do you think they can allow us a chance to go with a cheaper option while still having a good O-Line?

So ..the Boston globe put out a report from a Patriots insider that said Watson is frustrated with the Texans organization and wants a trade …. however it was never agreed that he would have input on choosing the GM he was only supposed to have some on choosing the coach ….smh

It is super obvious the Texans leaked this information ! Idk why the hell they would do that but they did ….. Deshaun Watson is gone and I guess it’s only a matter of when

Problem is for me …. You guys don’t do this you’re fair but I think it’s unfair the Watson or bust denver Media, that is putting so much pressure on George Paton ….. Because ……

Fans want Von back but restructured
Fans want Shelby Harris re-signed
Fans Definitely want Justin simmons re-signed

But dude we only have so much cap space and everyone wants the Watson trade to happen

Deshaun Watson NEEDS TO SAY SOMETHING !!!!……. he’s gotta understand he has to do something before free agency starts or else it’s going to limit his trade market right ? Like he has to know that right ?

Because Idk what Paton is gonna do about von, Shelby , and justin while he’s trynna figure out how to get Watson here at the same time sucks …. For him and I wish some people would have some perspective

My boys!!!! Holy Moses it’s been a long time … working from home has eliminated my drive time which was usually my podcast time, and listening at home usually draws the “well if you have time to sit around listening to the radio, you have time to clean the garage” comments from the wife so it’s been a bit sporadic. I’m glad the season is over and we can get back to the important topics – burritos, hot pockets, etc. RK, Zac, Mase, just know I’ve missed you guys… where are the rest of the OGs?! I have some exciting things planned for the DNVR crowd this coming season, didn’t quite work out last season but stay tuned…. so, to keep it relevant to Broncos , is Watson signed yet?!? 🙂

“North Carolina has some of the best beaches in the world”

What the *beep* are you talking about mate? Come on we all wax poetic in this forum from time to time but let’s stay grounded in reality.

(I’m sure they’re beautiful but Australians are very defensive about these things.)

Football thing

I have an interesting theory on the broncos ownership struggle and the financial impacts.I’d like to test it.

There has been plenty of concern about the financial position of the team as a result of no clear ownership. A reasonable concern. But the team leadership seems pretty clear there isn’t, and I think that might be true.

In a situation like this, where there is a dispute amongst shareholders / beneficiaries, a very common mechanism for driving an outcome is to stop the flow of cash. No dividends.

What does that mean? Well it means that all the cash that otherwise was flowing into the coffers of the Bowlen children isn’t. And it means it’s on the balance sheet of the organisation.

You know what heaps of free cash is really good for? Provisioning for guarantees on big contracts and placing cash in escrow.

Now, some trust structures mandate distribution of earnings – others it is entirely at the discretion of the trustee. At least in Australia anyway. So this theory may get popped pretty quickly.

Anyway – *beep* yeah. Make it rain cash, and bring Deshaun to Denver.

Sorry I almost forgot …. In response to some things you mentioned yesterday … Domyou think Jeff Bezos is good for the nfl ? There’s a lotta controversy surrounding amazon workers and idk if he’s good for the league if protest and boycotting happens based on his business practices ?

If you could go back to the 2017 draft with perfect foresight, which of these two paths would you rather follow:

1) Trade every pick in the 2017 draft in order to move up to 1.09 and draft Patrick Mahommes.

2) Trade back once or twice to acquire enough picks to draft all of TJ Watt, JuJu, Alvin Kamara, Chris Godwin, Shaquill Griffin, Eddie Jackson, George Kittle, and Xavier Woods?

Thanks for the awesome pods!

If Trey Lance is their guy, how about sign Cam Newton on a one year deal to open the season as the starter? They could run an offense with Cam that would benefit Trey. Just a thought – not quite sure how I would feel about having Cam here but I am REALLY intrigued by Trey.

OMG, it’s my first podcast question! But doesn’t it seems that Tim Patrick is crazy undervalued by many? Am I crazy to think he could develop into a Pro Bowl WR1 level talent? Anyway, I’m just a huge fan of his and he doesn’t seem to loom large in the Broncos plans going forward and I’m not so sure that it isn’t a mistake.

Gents,

Just seeing new Russ rumors springing up, and it has me thinking. Are we entering a new era in how top QBs careers progress in the NFL? In the discussions about Watson, one of the key factors has been his age and the idea that he will be around for likely 12-15 years, which makes the upfront investment a lot more palatable. Historically, top QBs have tended to stick with one team for most of their career. Could that be on the verge of changing?

I’m thinking guys like Wilson saw what Tom Brady did last year and thought to themselves, “This team is a few years away, but I could go somewhere else and win next year”. Not only that, but they are also realizing they have some leverage to make it happen. Are we looking at a future where top QBs are shopping for ready-to-win superteams? It won’t be right away, but I can imagine a few years down the road QBs looking for 3-year, fully guaranteed contracts with a no trade/no tag clause. Thoughts?
