Hi Friends,
I’m getting a bit nervous about this HC process. We have not interviewed a lot of candidates that I think should be obvious at least to talk to.
Specifically, any OC still in the playoffs. To not do so – to quote a less famous Hank – “That’s Asinine”.
I get that we’re looking for a CEO type, and coordinator success is not a predictor of HC success. I get that we’ve previously interviewed Callahan from Cincy. But we can’t forget that the offensive side of the ball has been hot garbage here for a half decade plus. When you have a defensively minded head coach, your coordinator gets poached the moment you have success.
Every remaining playoff team (and most playoff teams in the first place) have a head coach from the offensive side of the ball.
Considering who we’ve interviewed so far, that whittles down our options to what, three? two?
Question time: For the draft capital we’d have to exchange for Payton, how many other teams do you think would trade their head coach for that same compensation?

This is the second time in as many days that I’ve gone back and listened to old, random pods and I have to say, they age really well, my gents. I think I may have found a new, off season hobby.

After Cowherd’s segment today, I’m pressing the panic button. Combined with reports trying to pump up Ryans. Yikes.
Paton not only wasted his first season with new ownership, but now his decision to bring in Russ is preventing ownership from hiring the coach they want. It was nice knowing you George.

Just saw the 5 min segment that Zac shared about Colin Cowherd saying “if he was Payton, he would pass on 25Mil because of Russell Wilson”… and man, it’s a shame that Payton has a close relationship with Cowherd and he, of all people, has a voice in Payton’s head in this process. He essentially used his segment to just shit on Wilson as a human being, which is bad agenda to take. Honestly, this all drama is starting to feel like Payton is just going around twerking his ass to keep his name relevant until next year’s cycle, where he can get a solid shot at the Chargers or Cowboys job. I say let’s hire Shaw and move on.
