Love the show!
I’m hearing over and over again from you guys how the Broncos must pick either a WR or a WR or an OL or a CB or a WR in the first round of the draft. What ever happened to drafting the “Best Player Available”? The Broncos are a team with a lot of holes – I say, let the board fall as it may and pick the BPA. Drafting for need is what led us to Paxton Lynch and Garrett Bolles.
Keep up the great work! Just started my annual membership to TheDNVR.com.
Cheers,
Kyle
1st trivia question for Mase. Denver failed to reach 14-0 after a final minute drive in that 14th game of 1998. Name the CB that allowed the TD and the young receiver for New York that caught that pass. I keep seeing lots of Broncos Country lacking faith in CHJ. Before Champ, Denver kept looking for that CB1. Remember the disaster of Dale Carter? Can you expand on what happens with this defense if we let CHJ walk and fail to get another CB1? (Assuming Callahan comes back and plays at his 2018 level) vs having CHJ and Callahan at a 2018 level? Its not like top tier CBs are growing on trees.
Also, if Denver does play in London, can Mase use his leverage to have the game the same week as Oktoberfest in Germany? Either September 20th or 27th. How awesome would it be able to plan a single trip for a London Broncos game and Oktoberfest in 1 trip? (Oktoberfest trip already planned)
Thanks again for everything DNVR has done for the Denver sports community.
Thanks,
Broncotiz!

Hey Guys,
Mase you did pronounce my username right. It’s quite odd, but friends gave me the nickname because in high school I used to make tater tot casseroles for them. Zach I would always email you if there were issues with the podcast and you were always prompt and respectful about helping out, thanks.
My questions are: Are your partners and children Broncos fans, what shows do you like watching together?
dsrodish
Man, you guys just will NOT give Mase a break!! Poor guy has said Drew is the guy for 2020 for over a week now and you guys keep beating him down!! We need to make an emotional support group for Mase.

Hey guys in terms of Denver’s defense being the top of the league in red zone, but more middle to good in general defense, what could be the cause?
I have heard some people suggest that the depleted pass rush talent (from injury) makes it tough on our secondary to maintain coverage on the entire field. I’ve also heard it could be lack of high end speed or a result of the scheme. But for whatever reason this defense has been elite in short field situations and closer to mediocre the rest of the time.
Do you guys have any ideas what could make this team so much more successful and dangerous with short fields? Does it suggest that they could be a few adjustments away from returning to a top ranked defense or is more about good breaks? Thanks!

As I eluded to in my comment, I think our bend-don’t-break defense is a result of poor interior line play allowing easy 3-4 yard run gains on 1st and 2nd down leading to 3rd and short or repeated 1st downs. The Red Zone success has to be credited to Fangio and his ability to utilize the shortened field as a strategic advantage.

Howdy fellas.
While OL & WR are obvious high priorities, I think interior DL is a big concern. Watching our D-line get pushed back constantly was infuriating and was a huge factor in why we allowed so many long, sustained drives by our opponents. I think RK was throwing shade at Malik Jackson due to his low sack count but his ability to control the line allowed us to shut down the running game and also helped our pass rushers. I hope they make major changes in the off-season.
Lastly, when Elway said Bolles was “available”, I wish someone with a straight face said, “is that the standard you’ve set starters in this organization?”. What a joke of a statement by both Elway and Vic, especially if it’s just to take a shot at James.

*typo correction: “is that the standard you’ve set *for* starters in this organization?”

To answer Mase’s question as to whether or not I would pick up Garrett Holds 5th year option…. Only if it was a $75 option to be our team’s waterboy next season. The sample size is big enough. Send him back to Utah where he belongs because no one else is picking him up after we release him
Separate issue. I just watched all the top WRs highlight tapes and my goodness, Jerry Jeudy is a big time player. He is a no doubt superstar. If hes available past pick 5 we need to trade some of that excess capital to get the next Julio Jones. Could you imagine Sutton, Fant, Jeudy, Lindsay and Lock? Now that’s something that can dethrone the Chiefs. I also believe that Ceedee Lamb can be the dude too but that group would be the best we’ve had since 2013! I know you’re gunna say BUT theres so much depth. NO not as good as Jeudy and then Lamb isn’t too far behind. This is what we and Drew deserve. Dont let this guy become a hall of Famer on someone else’s team!! I dont want Ruggs, sorry Zac, he’s actually the 3rd best reciever on that team, Devonte Smith is better than him too. I like Ruggs if hes there in the 2nd round but a third option in the first round is not something I sign off on. Not enough production to validate that high of a pick.

Hey guys I love when the Broncos win but I also love the offseason. This offseason with DNVR is going to be even better then years past. Sometimes I stay up late making mock drafts and seeing highlights of the top or intresting college players. For years I was extremely nervous when it came to drafting. The last couple of years i think Elway has proven to me that he can draft the right players and earned my trust in the draft. Even if the players that he chooses arent who i wanted i trust him and the front of more then ever.

Sorry guys I forgot to ask what is you’re thoughts on the running back from Oklahoma Trey Sermon

Hello, gentlemen
Longtime listener, recent subscriber! I’m a high school coach and English teacher in Nebraska and although I love my job, it is not the most financially fruitful form of employment so I have had to get by with just listening to the pods. But this year, my wonderful wife got me a subscription for Christmas so here I am (she is the best, by the way). Anyway, no question for today just wanted to tell you guys that the pods have made my 45 minute commute to work everyday so enjoyable. Keep up the good work! Also, Mase, I’m glad to see someone share my love for Star Wars and your correct pronunciation of words always warms my heart.
Thank you for everything that you do!

Hey friends. Clarification on the 15th. pick in the draft. If you are going best player on your board that’s left and he is a wide receiver, I will be all in. I think the trenches are so important with all the linemen that are unrestricted and also needing to protect Andrew! We need the Broncos to get their draft board spot on. GO BRONCS/ALLIE/LYNDSEY

I’m know I’m in the minority, but really hoping that we DONT get the Atlanta game in London! With the Tennessee game being a home game, this would eliminate my chance of seeing us play in person next year. I’m sure I’m not the only Southern fan that has this thought (although it would be super cool for yall and DNVR!)
Also, was cleaning out a drawer and found the old SI issue with the title proclaiming Paxton as “The Successor” lol. Definitely did not age well….
Thanks for all you do and Go Broncos!

What in the hell ever happened to unabated to the Quarterback? That call always cracked me up – as does the way a Ref is supposed to call tripping. It’s the daintiest looking of all the calls and it’s used to penalize such a distasteful foul. What a hilarious juxtaposition.

AndrewO and I can come together and commiserate being surrounded by Chiefs bandwagoners on the team since 2018. This sucks!
With all these Chiefs “fans” who “didn’t care” about football before Mahomes, I am eternally grateful for my old college roommate who is as passionate about Kansas City as I am Denver. He knows to not talk trash like all the 15 jerseys walking around, and he is the only Chiefs fan with whom I can have a reasonable football conversation!
By the way, Mase: I know your heart lies in Tampa, but every time you talk about Kansas City winning the AFC, let alone the Super Bowl, *my* heart hurts! I can’t stand the thought of them having success! Similar to you and the Rams.
MissouriBronco
Also, with regard to signed shirts, when I eventually get around to annual sub (lol), could my shirt I get with it be signed? Or do I need to get one separate?
1) DNVR is THE best media company in the world bar none. Thanks to DNVR I finally have someone in Texas to watch broncos games with as me and FedEx Broncos have become good friends and watched every game together at Pluckers unless he had work. And we are gonna hang during the off-season as well. This is truly a family.
2) The Broncos-Pats game needs to be called the First Down Cash Money Beck game
3) For Pat
4) my dream first 2 rounds of the draft are getting Werth at 15, WR Devin Duvernay in the 2nd and then trade back into the 2nd and grab Biadish. I would be completely ok with just a Werth and Duvernay in the first two rounds as well. Duvernay has the burners as well as a great route runner and contested catch ability. Definitely not talked about as much as he should be as of now. And I believe he will be overlooked and easily available in the 2nd round for us and a steal there.

My guys,
You guys mentioned that big tall tackles are not a fit in the zone scheme the Broncos run. If that’s the case, what other teams will be targeting a more “zone friendly” tackle like the Broncos want? I’m assuming the Vikings and 49ers, but they will be picking after us. Anyone before us that is likely to steal who we want?
Much love!

First time commenter, love the great work you put out! Shout out to fellow Zac for engaging me on Twitter! My body is ready for this off-season.
As a Missouri grad, I am very interested in a Drew Lock + Albert O. reunion in Denver. Do you think if he’s there in the 4th round the Broncos could draft him? Some mock drafts have him going in rounds 2-3 but others have him in 4-6.
J3 Bronco
Hey boys! Been enjoying the off season content so far! Quick question for you…let’s say we go the route of using some of our draft capitol and trading up higher that 15th in round 1…should that be the case, who should we take Ruggs or Wirfs?
Thanks for helping me get to the next level in my Broncos fandom. I no longer am the dumbest guy in any of my football conversations!
You guys rock, long live DNVR!
J3 Bronco
I just had a thought about Elway and Fangio’s non committal to Drew. Could it be more them railing against the media and fans screaming in their collective faces about Mr. Lock, rather than what they actually think about Lock or if they think he’s the guy for next year and beyond?
Just a feeling I’ve got, having been in situations where people are demanding things of me, I become reluctant to give them what they want even when it’s the right thing to do.
Maybe it’s 75% that and 25% them waiting to see what he proves in 2020?
