On December 4th 1988 Mase’s eventual 4-10 Bucs beat the eventual 11-4 Bills 10 to 5 to beat the under by a mile which was set at 38 – this is a score that’s only happened once in NFL history. There were no passing TDs scored in this affair with Vinny T chucking a paltry 12 of 29 for 156 scorching yards through the air. Can you name the scorer of the lone Bucs trip into pay dirt? And who tackled Vinny T in his own end zone for 40% of the Bills scoring output that legendary day?

Vinny Testaverde himself. He ran for the touchdown to put the Bucs up 10-0 in the second quarter. I remember that game probably more than any other … from the brilliant sun that bathed Tampa Stadium on that cool December afternoon to signing “Na, Na, Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye!” to the Bills fans as they trudged out of the stadium following Mark Robinson’s game-clinching interception. We Bucs fans celebrated, thinking that we saw the dawn of a contender. Alas, a winning season was still nine years away, by which time only wildly underrated left tackle Paul Gruber — now a Coloradoan and a resident of Edwards — remained. (Also, Bruce Smith got the safety. Months later, the Broncos signed him to an offer sheet under the byzantine quasi-free agency of the day. Buffalo matched. If the Bills had not matched, the Broncos would have had to surrender draft picks, including a first-rounder that became Steve Atwater. All’s well that ends well.) The Bills’ loss cost them the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, forcing them to trudge to Cincinnati’s raucous “Jungle” for the AFC Championship Game, where they fell to a Bengals team that featured a few future Buccaneers, including Bruce Reimers, Stanford Jennings, Jim Skow, Brian Blados, Barney Bussey, Anthony Muñoz (although he didn’t make it out of the 1993 preseason, when he suffered a career-ending injury while making a tackle after a QB fumble), and, most prominently of all, the late coach Sam Wyche, a genius-level intellect who at times was probably too smart for his own good.

Epic, Mase!

I’ve been subscribed for a while now but this is the first comment I’ve made so far. I’m about a week behind listening to pods after vacation, so I just listened to RK beat down on my CSU Ram’s football team and I felt like I had to come out of the shadows to defend my team. I’m always down for some good natured banter, especially when I get to bring up the buffs record against pac 12 opponents and their quite unfortunate stretch of bowl games in the 21st century. That’s all for now, but maybe I’ll be back with some Broncos related comments soon.

Hey fellas, with the news of the trail being vacated it sounds like the team will be sold soon. It’s sad to see the Bowlens sell the team but ultimately I think it’s what is best for the organization. With that being said, do you guys have any idea of some possible candidates to be the future owner? Also, can each of you name a candidate that you would want to be the owner (even if it’s an unrealistic candidate). Thanks guys, have a great day!

hey guys!
so mase rightfully mentioned that a lot of criticism towards the broncos offensive coaching staff is directed towards pat shurmur but i’m gonna have to defend him here. i know a lot of fans are willing to make excuses for lock (sutton getting hurt, the lack of a conventional offseason while learning a new system etc) but those all apply to shurmur as well
i think back to arthur smith and matt lafleur when they were with the titans and how uninspiring both looked with marcus mariota and then how competent both looked with good qb play and same could be true for shurmur.
i know there was some criticism about not using players correctly but i still think he’s a decent coach and he’s another guy who won’t find it hard to find a job if the broncos let him go. if i remember correctly the broncos were one of 5 teams competing for his services last year so the league holds him in a higher regard than a lot of the fans do
what do y’all think?

Hi guys, just reminiscing about a few favourite players again, Darrien Gordon at Denver and had a soft spot for Steve Tasker at the Bills, love to hear what the Oracle Mase thinks of both. Cheers!

It’s a beautiful Fall afternoon in Denver. I land at DIA and pick up my gear at baggage claim and head towards the city. So many great places I’ve missed and can’t wait to see. But I’ve got to stop off and check in at my hotel first before I get rollin right? NOPE…… I’m heading to the DNVR Bar! It’s locked in fellas I’m coming town for the Ravens game and I can’t friggin wait! Let’s GOOOOO

Hypothetically speaking, what are some tips and tricks for beating Zac and RK in the Red Zone? Asking for a friend. So far all I have learned in my research is that the Rockies somehow drafted Russell Wilson, but the Broncos did not. Oh the agony.

Hey guys!
Pat Surtain’s career is going to start under the shadow of what could’ve been. It will always be “but we could’ve had Mac or Fields”. Regardless of how Jones or Fields play, what does PS2 have to do to step out of that shadow?
We know Zac’s answer, but who is that one Los Angeles Charger that you love to hate, but would’ve loved in orange?

Fellas,
Are there any available free agents you would like to see Denver bring to camp on a try out?
