Hey dudes, following up on my comment from yesterday. Correct me if I’m wrong, but even during that one good Blake Bortles year I don’t remember hearing much about Hackett being a factor in the way you heard about McVay/Goff or Shanny/Garoppolo. He certainly wasn’t receiving any accolades in Buffalo, albeit, he was trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit over there. It’s also probably worth mentioning that he wasn’t running the Shanahan outside zone offense at that time either.

It seems like he didn’t really appear on the top offensive mind/head coaching radar until his time in Green Bay, where he wasn’t actually calling plays. To be clear, I’m not intending to be negative or say that Hackett is a bad play caller, in fact it’s encouraging to hear that he and Russ are really bonding over the schematics. I just think he still has a lot to prove when it comes to calling plays on Sundays and it seems that his prowess as a leader and a teacher are being conflated a little bit with his ability to draw up and call good plays at a high level.
