My guys, thanks for all the great content. Subscribed over the summer and can’t imagine getting through this terrible season without having this pod as a bright spot. So, thanks for that!

As much as I understand the desire to start next year fresh with either a new QB, head coach or OC, there’s still just the small hope that this year was an anomaly. Next year we should have a pretty stout O-line if Bolles keeps his play up, James comes back and picks up where he left off, a second year Cushenberry, Risner and Glasgow. Hopefully we have a healthy Courtland Sutton along with a second year Juedy and Hamler. Not to mention the stars we have at RB and TE. If most of these guys stay healthy and Drew still struggles we KNOW he’s not the guy. Thoughts?

Zac and Mase are constantly just waiting for RK to leave the room so they can continue to bury Drew’s grave.

For some reason I just can’t give up on the guy yet.

The arm talent is there, the leadership qualities are there, and from all accounts it seems as though he has the work ethic. So his major flaws are reading NFL defenses, decision making and footwork, right?

These three things seem to me to be aspects of a QB that require a lot of time and reps, two things that have been at a limited quantity this season due to no offseason, training camp, and missed practices due to injury & cancellations throughout the season. I know that y’all are going to say that it is now so far into the season that no offseason isn’t an excuse, but when your biggest flaws are all things that can be dealt with in the spring and summer before a season I think that it makes perfect sense why Drew’s old habits are rearing its ugly head. He was having to work out on his own without coaching; no wonder his footwork and decision making look like it did at Mizzou because he wasn’t allowed the time to rep out these bad habits.

The problem with Lock’s flaws is that while he works extensively on them in the controlled environment of practice, he reverts to ingrained habits in the chaos of game action. Further, he has been at his most effective when coaches structure a game plan that limits his field of vision and doesn’t require him to go past his second read; this reveals his limitations at the present time. While I’d like to see Lock get another shot, I think it would be malpractice to not have a viable hedge — whether it is a R1 QB (unlikely), a Darnold/Trubisky/Winston 20-something QB with upside or an old sage like Ryan Fitzpatrick. (And, no, Blake Bortles is not a sufficient hedge.) Further, I’m in favor of a 2021 competition with whoever is brought in unless Lock plays at an otherworldly level in the next four weeks. If a QB can’t handle the pressure that would come with it, how is he going to handle the pressure of game day?

Bum talk Friday –

Here in Big Sky country we boast of ski bums, trout bums, climbing bums, kayak bums and the occasional OG train bum. Have you all ever lived anywhere that has its own type of peculiar, endemic bum?

Morning boys,

I just wanted to address something I was thinking about. RK says he doesn’t like Mac Jones because he is playing target practice and has maybe the best college o line in front of him. RK you also admit that he gets through his reads and makes good decisions. How can you be down on him when the Broncos have many weapons and an O line that’s shaping up? If he gets through his reads and makes good decisions then he literally has the two main things Drew lacks. To me all of this is conducive to Mac Jones being exactly who the broncos should go with. If Mac is there later in the draft, you can get the best out of Drew, maybe win a couple games to see if he can be it; and if he’s not; so what… you can probly get Mac at 12-15. To me this is the best all around scenario if someone like Stafford isn’t in the cards. Not a stab at you RK just trying to re-package the idea of Mac Jones. I hate that he’s Jerry’s grandson but the Kid is getting top notch coaching at Bama and plays solid competition. These things have all yielded long term starters in the past. Love this pod, Love you guys, and I hope you and everyone else in the community all are doing well and staying safe.

Just throwing this out there that Mac Jones is not Jerry’s grandson. You’re probably thinking of Stephen Jones who is on Arkansas

People, people, people: Sam Darnold plays for the Bad News Bears. Of course he looks like the stinky cheese man! Dude can ball. Don’t believe the anti hype. If we don’t go for him a forward thinking team like Pittsburgh will. Good organizations still believe in this guy. He’d be a solid and logical hedge for Lock. I’m pulling for you Drewsif but you’re not making it easy peazy lemon squeezy.

Fellas,

Lots of talk about the third QB in the draft being not so good. So I wanted to look into who has been that guy in recent drafts. Here is a list of the last 10 QB’s picked third in their draft:

Justin Herbert
Dwayne Haskins
Josh Allen
Deshaun Watson
Paxton Lynch
Garrett Grayson
Teddy Bridgewater
Mike Glennon
Ryan Tannehill
Blaine Gabbert

3 of the last 4 seem to be franchise guys. Is that an indication that college programs are producing more NFL quarterbacks? How say you?

Many have said we should have patience for Drew Lock because look at the turn around for Garett Bolles.

Yeah, ok.

I read that Bolles credits his improvement to practicing playing football barefoot in the kitchen against his wife.

Maybe Lock should go over to Bolles’ house and try to make a couple of barefoot passes on Mrs Bolles in the kitchen.?‍♂️

Wait…now that Bolles has a huge contract is he going to move to a mansion with a maid and a cook while his wife is out spending the fortune? Who is he going to practice with now? ??. I’m expecting a big regression for Bolles in 2021. ?

Fellas,

Von Miller said that he doesn’t think Andrew Luck is done playing football. That’s all I need to hear. Elway, get on the horn and make it happen. A third Colts QB bringing titles to The Mile High City, yes please!

Howdy Gents,
You got me! After listening to you guys all year I finally subscribed as a Christmas gift to myself. While enjoying the Patriots loss last night I had an interesting thought. Week 17 the Jets will go into Foxborough most likely 0-15. Does Bill Belichick throw the game to spoil the Jets chances at the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes? I think the Jets would still hold the #1 pick in a tie with the Jags due to strength of schedule but still an interesting thought. Thanks for all the great content. Go Broncos and SKO BUFFS!

Hey DNVR Broncos gang. Normally I’d wax poetic about the Broncos, but I think everything has been thrown your way this week, so I’m just going to throw an off-speed pitch question. What is your favorite thing to make/eat for breakfast?
Go DNVRmy, and go Broncos!

You guys were talking the other day about having someone to help Vic growing in learning the time and game management as a head coach, but we have two former head coaches in munchak and shurmur who are both offensive minded who should be able to help with that correct?
Anyways another thing I wanted to talk about was what happens if Anthony Lynn gets fired. I can se the chargers bringing in let’s say Rich scangarello. I can see the game next year, chargers jump out to an early three score lead before halftime. The broncos come back in the second half and take the lead because scangarello went to the conservative gameplan. The chargers have the ball with 1:20 left in the fourth. Justin Herbert connects on a deep ball that gets them to the broncos 30. They get up to the goal line and throw a touchdown as time expires. Broncos win 42-28! Hope this makes you guys laugh! Happy Thursday and as always thanks for the podcasts.

hey guys!

albert breer said there’s a good chance someone on vic’s staff gets poached soon because of some strong defensive performances in primetime from fangio and brandon staley- and other nfl teams want his defense on their own team. the only question is who? the only person on the broncos coaching staff who could be considered as part of his tree is ed donatell and i can’t see him making that move at this point in his career, although maybe he would if he was allowed to call plays.

jay rodgers- defensive line coach with the bears (and former broncos DL coach)- makes some sense because he’s still young and was with vic for 4 years in chicago, but other than that i’m not sure how other teams would get a fangio defense, unless the broncos move on from him themselves. what do y’all think?

Mr. Elway and Coach Fangio, if you hitch your wagon to a Horse named Drew, you might get an early start on packing. Don’t destroy our depth by signing an average QB costing big bucks. Championship teams are mostly built at the draft, unless the Colts have a stud QB to trade.

I’m seeing real improvement in the overall O-Line play especially with Risner and Cush since Shitmur starting calling some running plays. They get to dish it out, rather than have to defend every down. Run the ball, have Drew have some play action shots and see what he does with them. We need clarity. No need to coddle him anymore.

FYI guys, no team has ever traded more than 2 1st round picks to move up for a player in the draft. It’s usually included some additional picks in other rounds though. If Trevor said no to Jet’s and we have say pick 7. I’d offer 3 1st rounders and the rest of this year’s draft (Call me Ditka) and a 2022 2nd for Trevor. How would the AFC West be with Mahomes, Lawrence, Herbert and Carr….. Please don’t wake me up from this dream. 🙂

Howdy Gents,
I grow weary of posting about Shurmur and Lock. Hopefully they can click these last four weeks and make our thoughts a moot point.

How do you see the Broncos approaching the MLB position? Johnson and Jewell have been solid this year and managed to stay healthy. Do you see any worthwhile competition being brought in or solely depth pieces? Do they give Strnad the chance to be #3 or is he fighting for his life next year? Is Barron back? They sure held on to him a while if not

Thanks for the pod as always

Greetings all.
Listening last night to Zac and Mase talk about veteran QB’s who may be available to be brought in as a bridge, for some reason Josh McCowan came to mind. He’s old, but bringing him into the QB room, he may act as a mentor for Drew and provide a bit of guidance to help him develop during the off-season and training camp, while also being able to step in for a game or two and be a game manager type.
Thoughts?

Have a great weekend everyone. Be well. Oh and if anyone does the Hanukkah thing, enjoy that to.

I feel this one in my bones. The Broncos drop 35 points on the panthers this week. The kick is up and it is good on this weeks addition of 58 yard field goals.
What say you?

MY BOYS! Happy bum talk, fired up, feel good, football Friday to each of you and the DNVR community. On a recent podcast, someone mentioned listening to podcasts at 1 1/2 times speed, which I usually do. If you want to do something to give yourself a hearty laugh, listen to part of a DNVR Broncos podcast at -2 speed. RK sounds a slurring, slow talking lush. It’s truly comical. Alright, It’s time for another fill in the blank Friday. Sunday’s game against the Panthers is a success for the Broncos if (1) ___, (2) ___, and (3) ___ transpire. Have a fantastic Friday and wonderful weekend. DNVRMY SALUTE!

Hello friends! My question today is a hypothetical…a buddy of mine is a huge Bears fan and is saying that he expects the team to move on from Matt Nagy after this season…now obviously he’s not the most reliable source lol…but if Chicago does in fact relieve Nagy of his duties what would your thoughts be on him potentially being a replacement to Shurmur? I know we talk a lot about needing to get some consistency at that position but at the same time keeping Shurmur just for the optics of consistency would be a mistake imo. He just doesn’t seem to be the right fit for Drew. On the other hand Nagy and Vic have some history and were able to put together a playoff team. Thoughts?

Hey a couple things to ask since I have not commented in forever:
1) I want to say I am in it to win it. Made a big splash trade in fantasy keeper league to trade away CMac for Chubb, Ekler and Jefferson. When you have the opportunity to win it all you have to sell out for it.
2) As much criticism as Locke deserves, I think Shurmur is even more guilty. We saw a bit as to what KJ can do one on one and he made the first down. Why have we not seen more quick screens to KJ, Jeudy or Fant? Or even the RBs? Is there a big downside to throwing screens? This could also help the line slow down pressure. This drives me crazy not seeing easy throws being called.
3) MR. B
4) I feel like for D-line next year we can not have it all so should we resign Shelby or keep Casey around? I feel that by letting Casey walk would free up the money needed for Shelby and he has earned that every time he has been on the field. PAY THE MAN
5) Why does it seem to take plays a long time to get called in? We watch the Chiefs, packers and other teams come to the line with 15 or more seconds to do hard counts and check at the line. Is this more of Shurmur not trusting Drew to make a call at the line or Drew having the inability to make a pre snap read?

Appreciate yall as always
