What’s up guys I have to say I was always of the belief that Joe Flacco and even Brandon Allen to an extent we’re holding back Rich Scangarello as he has shown flashes of brilliance however he does show similar amount of boneheaded decisions. Do you guys think Rich can show enough by the end of the year to keep his job? If not, who are some early names to keep an eye on for OC in 2020? I am interested to see how a Vic Fangio/John Elway clash would play out but I think John has learned his lesson with VJ and I think Vic would be interested in a modern spread offense. Keep up the great coverage it almost feels as if I am in Denver even tho I live in Texas.

GUYS! What a exciting time to be a broncos fan…… I get the feeling that Drew is going to play well enough to earn himself a shot next year, meaning we will be attempting to build around him and bolster some holes on the roster. Our biggest needs are going to be corner, reciever, and offensive line. I’m of the belief that you draft lineman early, and often (ESPECIALLY with a young QB). With that being said, what position of those 3 would you like/reccomend the Broncos address first? I’m praying for a real life NFL Left Tackle. Thanks again gents, Go Broncos!

I’m at a place of confusion and I could use your guys’ help. Are the problems we see on offense, keeping in mind the fact that the Broncos are fourth overall in the first quarter yet last overall in the second half, Something Scangs can learn? Obviously the potential is shown, but not fully realized. Is it a problem to be fired and fixed, or a lesson to be learned?

It makes me happy as heck the community that DNVR has created and it has only been elevated by the likes of Zac, Ryan, and Mase. With that being said DJC15 you have all of our support and if you ever want to talk Broncos, or anything really, I’ll drop my email and we can get in contact and chat it up. You’re not alone brethren.

With all this talk of changing OC next year, I am a bit concerned. Is it not detrimental to a young QB’s development to be chopping and changing offensive systems too often? By no means am I supporting Rich at all, I think he is trash. But, I’d like to see some stability for Drew as to not derail him like other QB’s who’ve been put in bad situations by their teams management. Ideally a system that suits his skill set and stick with it.

With Chris Petersen stepping down from Washington, think that the Broncos could tempt him to come out of retirement for an OC job? I know that he said he’s stepping away from football, but we’ve seen this time and time again that football guys get out of it then realize it’s in their DNA, I know before he was a head coach at Boise he was always an offensive side coach.

Mase random question for you.
Since I was too young to pay attention to spreads during the Tebow season I was curious, did Vegas constantly set the broncos as large underdogs with him? Now that I pay attention and all I can’t imagine that they were respecting his run. Alright now you can go back to current bronco talk

I want to be on the Lock train. My mind is telling me no. But my body? This dusty old burlap sack ‘a bones? “Is tellin’ me yeah—ee—yesssss!” I think it’s the invisible Gucci satchel he straps over his shoulders after throwing touchdown passes that’s winning me over. What’s the deal with that celebration, anyway? Does the QBR algorithm take this metric into account?! Come to think of it, have there ever been any Broncos QB’s before Lock to celebrated in such boisterous fashion?

Hey boys. 1st. off, congrats to the AP & USA Today # 25 United States Air Force Academy Falcons finishing @ 10-2 in the Mountain West Conf.! GO ZOOMIES, it’s time to go Bowling boys. Derrick does not owe the Broncs a 2nd. HTDiscount, they certainly are not going to get a 2nd. from CHJr., just sayin. Give me Wolfe over Chris every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I think you might’ve missed my comment (or maybe I didn’t get it in in time). No big deal. Here it is again, I think it can really help some people! Have a good one!

I have a hint that may be able to help people out. If you don’t have DirectTV (or just don’t want to pay for the Sunday ticket in full), find someone you know that has a college e-mail account. They have a student subscription that lets you get the Sunday ticket for just $100. All you have to do is sign up with that college email and say that you don’t have access to DirectTV at college and BOOM, you’re in! I’ve been doing it for three years now!

Mase, while I agree with you that a burner receiver can be found later in the draft, Ceedee Lamb is truly one of a kind, and the DeAndre Hopkins comparisons are 100% spot on. If he’s there when we pick, I’m seriously considering him.

They could still get a speed guy on Day 2. Another name to watch out for is KJ Hamler from Penn State. Medical history and his size is slightly concerning, but dude is one of the most dynamic playmakers in football.

Just a few other things that I wanted to get y’alls opinion on. Was listening to the Fan yesterday and a few things stuck out to me. Cecil Lammey mentioned that the Broncos ‘love’ Jeffrey Okudah and would find it hard to pass on him if he’s there. Also, DMac mentioned that Elway is frustrated with Scangarello. This was confirmed by Ben Allbright on Twitter, however, Ben also said that he expects Scangarello to get next year ?

I’m inclined to agree with Mase about pumping the brakes on Drewmania. While I’d love to see the kid light the world on fire and be the next John Elway caliber franchise QB for this team, through one start, I don’t feel we know much more about him than we did one week ago. The two TDs (being the major bright spots) were the result of 1.An AMAZING catch by Sutton and 2. A short field. Again, taking nothing away from his performance…but Scangs has got to un-handcuff him, toss him in the deep end, and let him sink or swim. Any JV quarterback can execute a handoff on dive 3 plays in a row. Can we please, truly, unLock Drew??

Hey guys. Responding from yesterday….. there are a few reasons I guess I have an attachment to Plummer over Manning because like you said Maze Manning took 2 playoffs from us. Also I feel Peyton was a Hall of Famer before he came to Denver. Obviously Plummer is not a HOF but you can argue that when you look back at his career he’s a BRONCO. Not saying that Manning is not a bronco. It just never felt right cheering for him. I still did. Also plummer played for Denver when I was in high school so I was way more emotional invested. When Denver would lose back then it would destroy me. I’m not sure if that answered your question and I’m sure I had some run on sentences there. Lol. I think faster then I type so sorry.

Hey guys, i think the best way to go forwards is continuity. We need to let Vic keep teaching his defense, keep Munchak building his line, keep Rich developing as an OC, give Drew the hole offseason and the home season to learn. I see real promise in every face of the team we just need to be a little pacient and let them work together.

Who won the contest with the nuggets?, did the Broncos beat stayed undefeated?. For all of you who have not subscibed you are missing out, my favorite article of the week is Andre’s game grades, it gives you a very detailed look of how each player and coaches did, it gives a different perspective.

Keep up the terrific work, i really appreciate it very much

Possibly an unpopular take but here goes

Maybe Elway was right, CHJ has not seemed like the same player this year. He is still a very solid corner but he has taken a step back if Elway had signed him to his three year deal imagine what version of Chris we would be getting in 2021 and 2022. 3 million is a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things to know for sure what a guy has left. It may have saved a large chunk of money in the long run.

That being said I really like Byron Jones out of Dallas, jerry is not gonna be able to pay everyone and I could see him being let go, he will be pricey but do you see him as a target?

Boys! Just wanted to chime in with some important information. The 49ers tried a TE end around with Kittle this weekend against the Ravens. Guess what… it resulted in a loss of yards. I think Kyle Shanahan and Rich are in a race to see who can run the first successful TE end around. Please someone win so this contest can end!

Hey guys, just a question concerning the secondary. I’m a huge fan of Jackson, Simmons, and Parks. With the latter two in a contract year, is there any chance both are retained? Could either of them make a transition to corner in the case CHJ leaves in FA? I know it’s common for old corners to switch to safety, is there any precedence for that occurring in reverse?
Thanks for your time!

Hey guys,

Everyone is saying go with Castanzo at LT if we aren’t drafting one. Now what do you think about D.J. Humphries? He is 4 years younger, is stable (not going to say great) but is a huge improvement over Bolles. Consider this, since 2016 he has less total penalties then Bolles has this year (granted a couple of shorter years). With his limited history and coming off his rookie contract not being a huge name star I think we could get him fairly team friendly deal for 2-3 years and that would solidify the line. Thoughts?

Isn’t a shanahan Offense usually beset by an O line that pulls and moves and stunts and misdirects? Why did we think it was ok to run that with a line anchored by immobile and goofy footed tackles? If we want to continue our archaic journey of WestCoastery we must go heavy O line in the draft, right?

No game ball, no recognition after the game on the team site, no coaches talking about how well he did…. Shit.
John has already decided Drew isn’t his guy because:
A. He looks very good, as a franchise QB should, but he did well when he wasn’t under center. In other words, he’s good but not for the system they want to run. (Why are you matching the player to your system instead of matching the system to your franchise QB?!?!
B. They are trying to discipline him to not be the center of attention by giving him recognition only when he wins the way they want him to. (wtf)
C. They aren’t considering what he does from last Sunday to the end of the regular season a good enough sample size to base any future plans off it.
D. They are sticking to the development projeft they wanted when they brought him on in the draft and will still sit him for likely another year. Because while this has become a lost season, the next one hasn’t been lost yet.
E. They want to project his good performance against the Chargers as his floor to gey more in a trade with the Bengals when they trade up to get Joe Burrow.
Let me just be the first to say that all but one of these methods of thinking is intelligent and I want to know why they might be wanting to do this to Lock..
Have a great day, Broncos Country.

What’s up DNVR fam? I’m a lurker who’s been listening and subscribed for almost a year but almost never comment.
I just wanted to drop in to echo KrazieManiak’s sentiment from yesterday. As the KC Spy, I can confirm that my friends who are Chiefs fans are very excited for their true son, Lock, to be getting his chance in the NFL. Anyway, with Lock’s “homecoming” to KC in two weeks, I wanted to ask y’all; Do you think Lock will bring some extra fire to the game against the Chiefs? Will he be that extra element that we’ve been missing in the last EIGHT losses against KC?
One last thing, we have to get a little meetup going after the game for our DNVR fam here in KC. I’ll comment closer to time to set it up so keep your eyes peeled.
Anyway, thanks for everything gents. Keep up the great coverage and keep on locking and rolling DNVR fam.

My Dudes!

I have been laying in the cut and just watching/listening in the shadows for most of the season. The frustrations of watching Flacco and Allen really had me down and out. I have been praying that we see Lock this year and o boy did those prayers get answered! It is great to hear from Risner, Simmions, and Lindsey how much they enjoy Lock’s leadership style and his ability. This is exactly what we all knew about Lock when he was drafted and I am glad the younger stars are following him.

My one wish for this team has always been to DRAFT a franchise QB and build around him. That is something that Denver has never been able to accomplish. Lock showed us all some flashes on why he can be that guy on Sunday. I am looking forward to the next 4 games and I honestly hope this kid wins out or finished with 3 – 4 wins.

Missed you all and I will chime in more and more now that the future is here.

PS, Why aren’t we seeing Winfree at all so far this year? I thought he would get some playing time due to how we traded up for him late in the draft.

My comment wasn’t read yesterday… is it too long or was it too late? Here it is again:
Hello DNVR family. Pardon the very long comment but I won’t be commenting often. I explain why in the following.
I’ve been listening since week 17 of the final Siemian season but I just subscribed with the black Friday promo. Firstly I wanted to clear the air on the quote “Freeloader listeners” if they are at all like me. Besides being just a Broncos fan and not the other Denver teams, the reason I never subscribed before was I just don’t have the time for all your amazing content. Up until recently, when I gave up on my trash fantasy team that will certainly lose in the first round of playoffs, I was listening to the pod a few days late. So I would never be able to make relevant comments on time. But now that we are heading into an offseason with Drew the future I thought I would invest. I don’t have the kind of job you can listen to at work and I have about 10 pods I listen to regularly. Among writing and other things there just isn’t time! So freeloaders DON”T FEEL BAD! (but you should subscribe. The audio articles are fantastic)
Also in the past the incentive of a free shirt wasn’t helpful because I already have every DNVR Bronco shirt (plus the Phil hoodie for me and my girl) except for the Vic shirt. I needed him to earn my trust which now I hope he has. I will use my 2 free items code for a future shirt for me and my girlfriend.
Now that I’ve explained myself… a few thoughts building for the last 2 years.
1. Team 2 holes. Has Mase given his input on that debate? I recently started this debate between my girlfriend and her daughter. We are all differing in opinion.
2. My very first 2 jerseys I bought at the same time in an offseason sale before Tebow was drafted were none other than an Orange CHAMP BAILEY and a Blue KYLE ORTON! I loved Orton in his two season I just think the madness of Mcdaniels tainted him. My most recent is an Orange Phil Lindsay and bought my GF a blue Phil jersey as well. I also have orange Peyton and Elway Jerseys. Next up would be an orange TD and hopefully a Blue Lock.
3. 3 is for Mr B. I will never forget the morning Mr B passed. I was doing a 5 am workout and my phone lit up half way through. I was devastated and almost ended my workout. But then I thought about Mr B and his determination to never give up and I had a great workout after. The following day I was working out again when RK described the sunrise or sunset as Orange and Blue for Pat. I had to take another misty eyed reprieve but returned to exercise in the memory of why I love the Broncos and Mr B.
4. Thank you thank you thank you for BRECK BREWS! I am not much of a Beer guy (prefer the hard stuff and the green stuff) but I recently found a liquor store by me that carries Strawberry Sky, Vanilla Porter and now recently the Christmas ALE! All at a great price! I love them all for different purposes and bought out their last (or what I thought would be their last of the season) 8 cans of Strwaberry sky. A 6 pack and they sell them individually. I got these the week after the browns game and reserve one can to drink after a win. Needless to say I have 7 cans left. Also RK really got me on the White Claw train and another I would recommend is TRULY hard seltzers. More flavors, same low sugar/carb and sometimes cheaper. Damn you RK and your great recommendations.
5. Living in LA I have watched the Broncos play here the last two seasons against the chargers and they won each time! Also I’ve been to Denver for 2 preseason games (My mom is a teacher and wanted to take me and my dad for my birthday so we can’t go regular season.) but they won each time! I wore my Peyton jersey for each game which I think is good luck. Each of those preseason games was the season of their Superbowl appearances with Peyton. I have always blamed the Seattle loss on me because I was watching with some friends who one got sick so we put it on pause. The friend whose house it was did not think to record the game. So we came back like 45 minutes later, the remote fell and changed the channel. When we got back to the channel it was late 3rd quarter and it was all over by then. My point is that my Peyton jersey has magic and it’s my fault we lost Super bowl 48. But for Super Bowl 50 I only missed 1 play and it was the blocked punt/FG if I remember correctly so that one worked out.
6. Get Scangs outta here. It doesn’t fit the philosophy of the team. We go with the one of the oldest most experienced defensive minds in the game and an OC that has amounted to nothing just because he’s part of the coaching tree we want to be in. I hate it. He can’t figure out how to use Phil and Royce right. He is too afraid to be called out for big plays so he tries the smallest most disappointing plays possible. Get me someone else.
7. Despite the strife. 7 is still for Elway. Everyone looks at their own team critically at times and other times no criticism whatsoever. I have two “friends” who are Steelers fans. They never admit there is a culture problem in Piitsburgh. They always back Big Ben despite being an overrated QB and a trash human being. They defend him going on the radio and calling out his guys who fail. They also blamed AB for Ben’s interception to Shelby Harris last year. How ridiculous is that? They would spit on the jerseys of AB and Leveon Bell because they didn’t want to be in a trash organization anymore. I still defend those two diva or not. Pittsburgh is clearly a toxic place to play with their GM calling everyone boys under Ben. I won’t even start on Tomlin. My point is this would never happen under Elway. Just because he isn’t the best at drafting QBs and other pieces he is still better than most and has kept a team from utter turmoil. Wins, losses, yards and points aren’t everything. I would still stand behind this team after back to back winless seasons as long as the integrity of the players and the organization is intact. Give me a Bengals season with good guys and coaches rather than a 2018 Chiefs season with the likes of Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt, Frank Clark or Andy Reid. Also I think the tomahawk chop is racist along the same lines as the Redskins team name.
8. I may be the only one who thinks Mahommes is overrated. I have a top 5 list of QBs who if they were in the perfect offensive situation as the chiefs with Andy Reid would be WAY better than Mahommes. In no order that list is Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott. Lamar is the only one with a good coach. The others are in weak situations and they are excelling. If they had the same weapons and coach as mahommes they would blow him out of the water. Not to mention their defense is so bad they are always in situation they have to throw and throw. Look at Lamar. Not only is he lighting it up. He elevates every part of the team. Ravens D was okay at the start but they are playing killer right now! Lamar doesn’t have to lean on them and they don’t have to lean on him. We should all be grateful Lamar is not and will never be a Chief (knock on wood!).
9. For how I became a fan not from Denver it goes like this. I lived in CA as a child and liked the 49ers but not a fan they were just close to me. We almost moved to WISCONSIN so I thought hey, maybe I can be a Packers fan. My mom even got me a Packers plush blanket that I still have. BUT we ended up moving to OREGON instead! As you know they don’t have a pro team and I wasn’t about to be a Seahawks fan. I had a lot of opinions despite never really watching football. My first Superbowl I ever watched was my first few months living in Oregon. I thought I still wanted to be a Packers fan and my dad said he liked the Broncos to win because he likes Underdogs. Whether they were or not this one statement from my Dad changed my mind as I watched Elway put it all out on the field. From that day on I was a fan of the orange and blue (colors that were already my favorite – green and yellow suck! I didn’t like the Oregon Ducks either despite living 10 minutes from Autzen stadium).
10. Lastly, I messed up when I subscribed and did not put the code for the pod host I would vote for. If it still counts, for the record I would have put….. (wait for it) RK! I love all 3 of you equally but I credit RK for my new love of White Claw/Truly and the Breck Brews. We were also being Keto Kids at the same time. But what really made me decide on RK was either this offseason or last, RK became the only person I have ever heard mention one of my favorite desserts ever! Strawberry Rhubarb pie/cobbler! By that I mean friends, podcasts, cooking shows… none of them ever mention Strawberry Rhubarb desserts! In Los Angeles I wouldn’t even know where to find Rhubarb. It is an amazing combination and everyone should try! I could eat it every day. When I was a kid living with my parents in Oregon they grew rhubarb and strawberries in the garden and made fresh cobbler from that! DELICIOUS! I remember sneaking bites of it cold right out of the pan in the fridge. It’s great cool or warm! With ice cream it’s even better (for you Zac)! Mase let us know if you have ever had the pleasure! If I ever own a restaurant it would be my featured dessert!
Keep up the great work guys! Again sorry for the very long comment but I am not the type to comment every episode or even every week. Happy Holidays to the best pod community out there!

I think a reason behing the mixed signals for Drew Lock is that the organization is kinda burnt out on Quarterbacks much like we are. In the past 4 years we’ve had so many guys come through, and each time they were hopeful they found “the guy”. They gave Siemian hype and praise, tried to give it to Lynch, Flacco was hailed as a solid choice…everyone has failed this organization. They must be sick of handing over their team to these QB’s who keep failing them. Lock did well, but even Brandon Allen did well in his first start. I think they’re just leery of putting their hopes in him just yet. He’s not Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hey guys, long time listener, brand new subscriber and first time commenter! Love the Pod and I’m excited to join the conversation. Couple quick comments I’ve been wanting to get in for a while now.
1. Dr. Lock can be The Guy! One thing I wanted to point out about him changing Sutton’s route on the TD play…unless I missed something, Sutton was the one to bring that to light. Not Dr. Lock. That speaks volumes about his leadership. I really hope the rest of the season goes well enough that next year, we can put the QB conversation to bed and go fix the rest of the team in the draft.
2. Although I agree with you about Scans apathetic play calling, I still think he has enough potential that he gets another year. I mean, if Joseph got 2 years…
3. For Mr. B
4. It would be fun to hear you guys discuss the symbiotic relationship between the O line and the QB. That becomes an increasingly interesting topic the more games that Dr. Lock and 72 play well in simultaneously.
5. Black Friday was good to me and I can’t wait to watch this weeks game on my new 75” tv! 😉

Sorry for the long comment! Thanks for the great content, GO Broncos!
