Thanks for reading my mini novel in support of Everton.

RK was right when he said Toffees is a kinda soft nickname. It comes from there grounds being built between 2 competing candy shops. This dire competition led to Everton allowing one of the shops to distribute free toffee samples in the crowd with what some believe to be the first ever mobile stadium food vendor. This tradition still stands so a trip to Goodison Park comes with a sweet bonus. Everton’s other nickname (which I prefer) is The Dogs of War.

I had a quick question on the position coaches not going to the combine. Sometimes I think coaches over-value drafting players with similar personalities to them. The two reported instances I can remember where a position coach really fought for a player and won were Bill Kollar with Adam Gotsis and Zach Azzanni with Juwann Winfree (cough shoulda taken Preston Wilson or Olabisi Johnson with that pick cough cough). Do you guys know of any other situations where a Broncos assistant coach really fought for a guy and it worked out?

Sorry in advance for this novel of a comment:

This is for RK and Mase for the hate they threw at my OKC Thunder on the pod!! Don’t we think our hate is a bit misplaced for them for leaving Seattle for OKC?

If you recall Howard Schultz, the owner of Starbucks, wanted a taxpayer funded arena built to replace the crumbling Key Arena for a new one. After the city told him no he decided to sell the team.

On top of this the president of the Seattle city council president even came out and refused to negotiate a new lease on the arena whilst also stating that there would be zero economic and virtually zero cultural Impact felt by the departure of the Sonics. While he apologized later the damage was basically done.

The team also reportedly lost $60 million in the 5 years Schultz owned the team all while he was trying to lobby to the city of Seattle and Olympia for renovation money, but it was all to no avail.

The team was later sold to Oklahoma Native, Clay Bennett. While everybody knew this essentially meant the NBA was coming to OKC, he said he would try to make it work to keep the Sonics in Seattle. Knowing that the city had given hundreds of millions of dollars for the Seahawks and Mariners stadiums, Bennett asked for similar compensation for a new arena to be built in the Seattle metro.

Not to mention it is well documented how poor the fan support for the Sonics was during this time period.

While I understand how Sonics fans would feel slighted and hate the Thunder, the state of Oklahoma has supported them better than anybody ever could’ve dreamed of and certainly better than Seattle did in their last years there. Even when they first got here and sucked people still filled the arena and still do to this day. Us Okies love our thunder and blaming solely the team for the move when the city of Seattle and the fans had just as much to do with them moving as the ownership change.

In my earlier years, I was a casual Nuggets fan by transitive property of being a diehard Broncos fan until the Thunder moved here I was 10 when this happened) but I never cared all that much about the NBA until then. Now you could say that the NBA gained a whole new viewer base that otherwise wouldn’t be nearly as prominent had the team stayed put.

Now onto some football!!
If you guys get the chance on Tuesday during Elways media availability, could you ask him how hard it is ride a Bird while wearing white skinny jeans?

Love y’all and this entire community! Hope y’all have a great time at the combine!!

Gentleman,

Michael pierce? Thoughts on him in Fangio’s system. Still young and not long ago was regraded by many as a top free agent. Not known for his pass rush, but Akiem Hicks wasn’t necessarily a big rusher until he was in Fangio’s system either.

My 21 month old son, middle name Atwater, so I know he’ll fight this off quickly, got pretty sick on Friday. After 4 hours at the ER we were home and finally got him to sleep. I needed some soothing to calm my frazzled and worried nerves. Of course, I feel asleep listening to the lulling voices on the pod. I awoke, however, to the scratchy disturbance of Mase doing Cornholio. Needless to say it was startling.

But somewhere in the ether I could hear Butthead saying,

“Hey Beavis, you like woke that dad up! Huh huh.”

“Yeah ahhh yeah”

“Huh huh.”

This comforted me.

What’s the most jarring thing you fine gents have woken up to?

Gentlemen, Rainforest cafe is still a thing. There are plenty of them here in Texas. At least 5 I know in Houston. I take my daughter all the time. The food is 100X better than Casa Bonita. Actually pretty good. It’s just really expensive so I only go for her bday and such.
It’s owned my Landry’s (Which owns tons of restaurants). The company is owned by Tilman Fertitta, who is the owner of the Houston Rockets. They own the Aquarium in Denver which I’m sure y’all are aware of.

Just thought I had to tell y’all because you said you weren’t sure if it still existed and I was like….I’m I was there 3 weeks ago.

Anyways enjoy Indy men. Let’s make it 3 awesome drafts in a row

Hello Brian, Zatch, and Vase.
Love the Pod. I’ve been listening since before the Keenum era and subscribed in November and have been loving the online articles.
Just wanted to throw my two cents in on a debate.
As a travel agent I have some say on this. DO NOT recline your seat in an airplane. The only time this is acceptable is if no one is behind you. Just because you have the right to do it does not mean it is right to do. You have the right to eat a Limburger cheese, Kimchi, Asparagus, fish sandwich. You have the right to not shower and wear sweaty gym clothes. You have the right to put just a jacket in the overhead bin taking space where a carry on should go. But are any of these things right? No. Doing any of these just makes you a plain A hole that deserves retribution. I have shared this thought with many a coworker without retort.
Also just wanted to note, despite Vase’s list of what’s better about being tall, there are plenty of everyday disadvantages besides uncomfortable flying. I can attest to this as a 6’2” man. 1. Public restrooms. Sometimes Urinals are so low you have to find relief awkwardly. One might say, well use the stall. Well it’s awkward as well if your eyes are above the wall of the stall. You look like a total creep. Also the bathroom sinks. Often time you either have to hunch over to wash and sometimes causing you to get so close your shirt or pants will touch the counter. As we all know, men are savages, and this could be completely wet. Thus providing you with an awkward wet front. 2. Speaking of sinks. Doing dishes at your home or your girlfriends home. I have come away from a session of dishes with a sore back from hunching over. 3. Back to planes. Some plane ceilings are so low you have to duck all the way through until you get to your seat. Thus looking like a crazy person. Also being too tall for the head rest on a plane is brutal. 4. Clothes. Ever find a great shirt and it’s just too short? Terrible. 5. CARS! Ever get in a friend of girlfriends car and look like an idiot because your knees are sticking up above the window and your head is against the ceiling? Or you have to crook your neck and slouch just to sit? Shopping for a car and the reason you have to turn it down is you don’t fit! Awful. Just awful.
And keep in mind I’m only 6’2”. I couldn’t imagine being 6’5” or any taller.
Anyway. Can’t wait for the future with Drew. Keep up the great work as the best sports coverage known to man. I love sporting my VNRD hat and shirts.

It’s draft day and you are the Detroit Lions. You are watching Gooddell open an envelope on stage amidst a shower of boos and announcing that the Washington Redskins have selected Chase Young with the second pick of the 2020 NFL draft. Now Joe Burrow and Chase Young are off the board. Tua Tagovailoa is staring you in the face.

The phone rings.

On the other line is the GM of the Raiders, Colts, or Bucs.

The offer on the table would require you to send Matthew Stafford away in exchange for a first round draft pick at #12, #13, or #14 overall, depending on the team you’re dealing with.

You can stay the course and draft Okudah to improve the defense. Or you can replace Stafford with a cost-controlled Tua Tagovailoa and recoup a top 15 pick to continue to build your roster.

You are on the clock. What do you do?

I have my first police oral board interview with my dream department on Tuesday of this week (25th). Everything will be appreciated. Thanks guys and have a great day!

Hey dudes,

As im writing this I’m preparing to grill some wings and listen to Friday’s pod that I missed. The grill out is for the Wilder Furry fight. I wanted you guys to know I was able to find the Breck vanilla porter here in Aiken SC! A very patient employee helped me find it. I’m looking forward to trying it for the first time tonight. I will be saving the other five for opening day of the combine. Thanks for all the great content, I am pumped for yall’s combine and draft content. Thanks so much for keeping us entertained with news from our favorite sports franchise.

2 quick Soicher stories! He coached our rival baseball team in little league. Their name was… you guessed it: The Mighty Bobbleheads. Like Drew, most of the players were short. So by 14 or so, we crushed them every time we played. One of those games, we went back-to-back-to-back dingers and the kid pitching started to cry. My coach, who was admittedly a jerk, started screaming “take advantage of it”. Which caused Drew to sprint out of the dugout and get in his grill. Looked like a chihuahua fighting a mastiff.

The other story is I had his number saved in my phone from when I shadowed him for a day at 9News. Coincidentally, the guy who bought me alcohol (family friend) when I was 17 was also named Drew. I sent a joking text reading “buy me booze or I’ll kick your a$$” and it went to Mr. Soicher. Thankfully he was able to laugh it off.

Hey guys,

As a Broncos fan on the younger side can you explain the history of Broncos and Seattle? I’m assuming it’s not just playing them in the super bowl.

Second, what are your guys thoughts on the giving yourself up rule. For me I think this is ridiculous as causes more confusion and controversy than needed. What is so hard about touching a guy down? Another example of this would be the Texans chiefs playoff game where the player threw the ball on the kickoff or Peyton falling against the Steelers.

Lastly, in honor of the combine let me remind everyone to not wear lose boxers when running the 40 time. This is so you don’t end up accidentally showing your family jewels on NFL network like our dream free agent Chris Jones.

Thanks guys and have a great week!

Hi Guys, just wanted to ask a quick one. Living in the UK, it can be difficult to watch American sport, so I have only become a fan of the NFL and Broncos over the past 4 years. I am now having to struggle with NFL withdrawal syndrome from not watching the games. What is the best American sport to start following to get me through the off-season? Also, which team should I support?

Hey guys!

CeeDee Lamb was probably my favorite player to watch in college football last year. Jeudy probably won’t be there at 15, and Ruggs has incredible speed, but Lamb is so elusive and just exciting to watch!

I can’t imagine Lamb getting to 15 either, requiring him to get by Kliff and the Cardinals (so it almost makes me sad to see his highlights xD ) but just for fun, do you guys think Lamb or Ruggs would be a more ideal fit for the Broncos?

Thanks and hope you all had a great weekend!

mase, you mentioned this on the draft pod but i was wondering if you could go into more detail;

we know that the broncos and 49ers will always be potential trade partners because of how close elway and john lynch are, and the broncos are unlikely to deal with the jets, but are there any other gms/execs that elway has a positive relationship/bad blood with?

Hey dudes I don’t think my question got answered last week; so if you did please feel free to skip:
Hey everyone have a great weekend and be positive! Broncos Q: what does it mean when you guys talk about “sub packages” and how that affects the roster? Non-broncos Q: what are some fiction books you guys have read recently or ever, that you might recommend? Since me and my ex split I’ve had so much time and have been reading and working out a bunch! Thanks friends hope I see you guys soon at a watch party ?

Read anything by Brandon Sanderson, definitely in the Fantasy Fiction realm but his stuff is so so good. My recommendation is to start with a book called Mistborn!

Good day gents.
I have a suggestion for the NFLPA’s return serve to the owner’s CBA ideas.
A 17 game season including 2 bye weeks to let players recuperate, with no change to the current playoff format. Players continue earning their regular paychecks during the post season with the amounts they currently make in those games added to their game checks as a bonus for making the post season. This would help move the players towards the 50-50 split in revenues they are seeking, with an expansion of the cap making up the rest. I would also cap any players salary to an agreed upon percentage of the team’s overall payroll to prevent QB’s (or a Von-type player) from taking a disproportionate piece of the pie.

I like the idea of expanding the rosters, game day eligibles, and practice squad members by 2-3 players. I also support increasing the number of players that can return from IR during the season. And, as a non-negotiable, lifetime health care, retroactive for retired players.

Does this sound reasonable to you? If not, why?

One other thing. I wonder if Fangio looked at the coaching carousel the Broncos have endured the last few years and decided sending his assistants to what sounds like a job fair for coaches wasn’t the best way to go. Let them attend Pro Day’s for the “getting to know you” phase of player evaluations. If you’re attending a Pro Day to scout a wide receiver, corner, etcetera – send that position coach to the event so they can talk to the prospects then.

For all you do – this Breck’s for you. Chau fam.

Long-time listener, first time commenter, but friend of the Pod.

Name a Draft Prospect you believe is somewhat overrated by the media in terms of consensus rating that could make a slide down the draft come April and name a prospect who is currently not considered a viable candidate for the Broncos at 15 but come April will be near the top of the Broncos’ options when officially OTC (Ryan cannot use Viska haha)

Mine.

Overrated: Andrew Thomas. Stiff blocker. A bit limited against speed and oversets to combat quick twitch which leads to vulnerability against counters. Much better in a quick pass scheme with a gap centric run game that probably will be a right tackle in the league. A bit top heavy. Solid tape but the UGA offense really protected his deficiencies with a heavy run game and a quick pass game. Strong run blocker but it’s a passing league. High floor but not the ceiling of Becton/Wirfs/Wills/Jones.

Underrated: Jalen Reagor. Denver needs speed at wide receiver in the worst way. Reagor isn’t simply a linear threat but can decompress defenses both horizontally and vertically. Sutton is a prototype X but post-Sanders, teams did everything they could coverage wise to limit Sutton, showing very little respect to other receiving weapons. Reagor’s big play ability across all levels of the defense would have synergistic effect on the entire offense by creating space because his speed can dictate coverage. While it is a deep WR draft class, the number of true multi-dimensional speed threats is limited. Ruggs, Reagor… Hamler? (TINY might be gadget only), and John Hightower.
