Being a football quarterback is an odd job. Imagine judging a 23 year old as hard as some fans do Drew in any other profession. When you combine this scrutiny with it being the most difficult position in sports, I think I will give Lock some more time. Thank you guys for the coverage it is second to none.
BRONCOS-SQUARED
Hey gang.
I concur with Ryan from yesterday. Shurmur can do a better job giving Lock easy looks and seeing some completed balls. I cringe most times when they go deep because the offense just hasn’t shown itself to be effective enough there, aside from Tim Patrick. I’m DYING to see Jeudy take over a game and announce himself to the NFL, and build chem with Drew! Is he not being schemed enough, or did the chiefs cover him like the Pats did? Were Phil and Melvin ever on the field at the same time?
Anyway, let’s chill about Lock and rejoice in Cam Newton sad face. It’s so easy to tell when he is completely dejected, and I love it.
You’re doing great work you beautiful bastards. ESPECIALLY THE TAILGATE SHOW! Holy hell I love that on Sunday mornings!

Is Broncoland the most unforgiving fan base in the NFL? It sure seems like it the last 4 years.
I’m wondering the same thing, at least regarding the QB position. Like Mase said the other day, Lock needs to not listen to podcast, radio, social media, etc. Have faith my Bronco brethren!
BroncoTerp
It’s interesting to hear Mase talk about Lock’s issues from Mizzou carry over to the pros. Its a great perspective to have and one that concerns me. Mase has it right, if those things don’t get cleaned up, and he continues to revert back to bad habits it could spell trouble down the line. Its like a golfer who works forever to correct his slice and then gets frustrated after a bad putt winds up shanking the next drive. I would hope Schumur , like a good caddy, is in his ear mid game to reinforce these things.
Two things I will say to that though. Its still so early in his pro career and these are exactly the bumps in the road he needs to take to get better. You can get away with some of those things in college but not the pros. Its GOOD that they are being exposed so there is more of a sense of urgency to correct them now. If this was year 3 or Start 20 I would be far more concerned than I am after his 8th start. Lets not make Sunday’s game erase the solid performances of the past… like the one not even 10 days ago vs NE.
Secondly, I think of Garrett Bolles and his progression from an absolute liability to maybe the best lineman on the team. The improvement is remarkable and should force Broncos country to take a page out of Rodgers playbook and R-E-L-A-X. Sorry for the long post boys. I’ll hang up and listen.

There is nothing worse than Un-victory Monday, especially one that follows a beatdown from a division rival that was at least in part due to self-implosion. Fire!!! Bench!!! Cut!!! Hold somebody accountable!!! HEADS MUST ROLL!!!
Now that we are on to “More Sober-Reflection Tuesday”, we should remember that the Drew Lock evaluation is a season-long project. Don’t get too high or too low based on one game, or even a few games. We are committed for the season, let it play out.
Seriously though, even on Sober Tuesday, the one coach who does need to go is Tom McMahon. He is as bad as Brock Olivo and not nearly as funny. It’s not just the return TD either. Belichick had guys coming out from 6-7 yard deep in the end zone on kickoffs, which tells you what he thought of our kick coverage. Meanwhile we are getting the ball on the 5 and not making the 20 on kickoffs. I have a hard time believing this is a talent disparity issue and not a scheme/coaching issue. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong there.
World of Suck
My comment didn’t make it in time yesterday, so here’s reposting:
In the past two seasons, the Broncos are 4-10 without Drew Lock.
They are 5-3 with Drew Lock in at QB from start to finish.
With all three losses coming against the Chiefs and Titans, they’re 5-0 with Drew Lock against opponents that did not play in a conference championship last year.
So given the fact that Drew Lock’s Broncos have not yet lost to a non-elite opponent, the next 4 games are looking quite appealing. Let’s give the guy some patience and see if Lock can establish a rhythm over the next four weeks. I bet he does.
And at some point, this team will have to start challenging the elite teams if we want to be successful. And Lock will have to show up when the challenge is most daunting. We’re just not there yet. Hopefully, with time, we’ll get there.

Greetings Gents,
After listening to the pod i do feel like Broncos Country has put many unrealistic expectations on this team over the years. We have been spoiled by Peyton Manning and have never recovered from the super bowl 50 hangover. I do think the fanbase hungers for those days once again and that is to be expected. Once you reach the mountain top that feeling of euphoria becomes addicting. However I do want to point out something.
The front office has been fueling us with narrative for the last 5 years of just being one piece away nearly every year. And since the front office believed it so vehemently we placed these expectations on our coaching staff, the draft picks and the personnel of the team. Unfortunately I think this has reared its ugly head because finally when the front office acknowledges that we need to “temper expectations” but then the fan base says “no we need to win” its like what do you expect. We have been told for so long that we are getting to the promise land and we see glimpses of what it could be. Then it just doesn’t come to fruition with a win against elite talent, we get frustrated. At what point is it the fan base that needs to hold the franchise accountable and what point is it we need to chill the F out and enjoy the process?
Thanks for all you do guys. Go Iceman, the count, DNVR and the Broncos.
Gentlemen, let’s give Drew at least 16 starts before giving an in-or-out assessment. We’re dealing with a ton of key injuries, a COVID offseason and a new offense from Shurmur. The offense WITH Drew gives me more confidence than Ive had since Manning. At least that’s what my “eye test” tells me. Let’s take the long view, pump the brakes, and see where this man takes us.
On to the Chargers. I have a good feeling about this week against Herbie. Our defensive line will give him trouble up the middle. Have you guys seen anything from the Chargers secondary that will give Lock issues?
BangkokBronco
Hey gents,
Fire Tom McMahon.
That is all.

I made that comment about Tom McMahon as I was listening to Monday’s pod, only a few minutes before you guys basically said the same thing.
Great minds and all that.

I think Melvin Gordon needs to focus a little more on not fumbling. Focus little moron, focus.
I am a member of a few broncos groups. And the sentiment on Drew lock is the same everywhere. The need for instant gratification in all aspects of life is maddening. If he doesn’t throw for 300 yards every game and 3 tds He’s trash. As Ryan says, all conversations require nuance. Was locks play Sunday bad? Absolutely. However, the loss doesn’t fall squarely at his feet. Plenty of blame to go around. It seems the fans here at DNVR are a lot more patient than everywhere else. I expect that Lock will play better and show progression which is all we need to see. I expect the broncos to be sitting at 5-5 in four weeks. Great work as always you guys
Broncology.

What’s going on my g’s? After listening to RK read my comment yesterday, I mayyy have been a little hard on Melvin Gordon lol. After all, he is still a Bronco so my apologies to brodie. I’ll chill and just chalk it up to a bad game. Also, after looking at the McManus kickoff again, you guys were right it was not his fault. My anger got the best of me and it was just an ugly game with the exception of the defense.
Question: I went to LA’s equivalent to The Green Solution in Denver so I might be a little higher on the team than I should be at the moment but after looking at the rest of the schedule I can find 7-8 wins in there somewhere. With how are defense is playing are you guys able to find 7-8 wins on the remaining schedule or am I just trippin? Other than the Saints and Chiefs, they seem like winnable games in my eyes.
p.s. Von, Courtland, Casey and now Purcell…wow
Appreciate ya’ll, stay blessed!

hey guys!
i know we always take pff with a huge grain of salt, but did y’all see they have bolles as the graded tackle in the nfl and the second highest graded lineman overall. just re-watching the game, he completely shut down frank clark when clark was lined up against him. i know there’s some worry that bolles’ performance could be a fluke, but if you compare it to his performances against clark last year, there’s definitely visible improvement there. and his run blocking was on point against kc too.
speaking of run blocking, i’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well albert okwuegbunam has been showing up as a run blocker. i remember seeing him do the sled drills at the combine and he was easily the worst blocker among all the tight ends there. if albert can prove to be a consistent blocker, do y’all think shurmur will be willing to run more 2 TE sets instead of the constant 3 wides?

How much good, will a good lock, lock, if a good lock, could lock, good?

When I heard the Mike Purcel news; my first reaction, without thought, was happiness. Imagine how different that dudes life would be if he hadn’t inked that deal a few weeks ago. Crazy.

Andrew Mason is a gif! And believe it or not, it’s not a gif of him saying
“But at the same time”
Or
“In the parlance of”
Or
“Screw this”

I have a feeling that Denver defense is going to take out a fair bit of anger on the LA Chargers. And I’m here for it.
So – who gets the first broncos;
A) Sack of Herbert
B) Interception of Herbert
HtownBronco
I Will love and root for the Broncos till I die and will root for no one else.
And yes Drew Lock is better than anything we’ve had since Manning…
But I’m losing respect for this team by the day…. 5 decades of respect and winning seasons going down the toilet. We just continue to make bad decision after bad decision. Letting Bausby walk when he’s looking better than Kareem and Justin out there is just plain stupid. They should of cut Bassey, no one was going to scoop him…. Can’t even defend it anymore. This is just a bad football team and is poorly run. And I know you’re going to say “well we’re better run than the Jets….yeah.. is that really something to brag about? We still suck. Look at the good teams around the league and then look at the Broncos. Yup, speaks for itself.
Broncossuperfan
Give Drew Lock the rest of the season to see if he is “The Guy”. Garrett Bolles is proving us all wrong this year. If he is not, please do not get a Big 10 quarterback. Outside of Brady, Brees and Wilson, who’s the best Big 10 QB in the NFL in the last 30 years? Jim Harbaugh, Brian Griese, Kerry Collins? (All Michigan) Ohio State at QB has never been the answer in the NFL. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong next year but I’m not currently sold on the Big 10/14.
Broncossuperfan
My mistake. Kerry Collins went to Penn State not Michigan.
JoeTurner_96
If Malik Reed continues to play at the level he’s playing at, is it likely we’ve seen Von Miller’s last game in Denver?
P.S
RK, I tuned into the DNVR tailgate on Sunday and loved every second of it. Will definitely be watching again.
Kendall Hinton, Hall of Famer
I’m pissed at Melvin Gordon too and I’m happy to make him public enemy #1 but people are way too upset right now, Lindsay is better but there’s something to be said about a durable RB that can carry a heavy load, catch passes and is good in pass pro, especially if they’re your #2 RB.
Also I think Drew Lock the past couple weeks (especially last week) has missed your guys’ targets for statlines/production (e.g. throwing 2 TD, 1 Int). I don’t want to see another week of him missing marks, so here’s the minimum I’m hoping to see against the Chargers or I’ll be concerned. At least 2 passing TDs and 2 more TDs than ints (so if he only has 2 TDs he needs 0 ints). The Chargers defense has been horrid, giving up 29 points the last few games including to the Jaguars! This is a soft ball, easy to hit mark. Let’s see it Drew, please!
Finally, it looks like Hamler and his hamstring were fine Sunday and no setback/injury again, good news!
T-Dubz
Hey guys, haven’t commented in about a year but i still listen every day. I think we all just need to be a little patient and remember that QBs have to be able to develop. If you’re going to dump every QB that doesn’t match up to Mahomes after 8 games you’ll probably never find one. Let’s chill Broncos Country!
The Danimal
Afternoon everyone! Since I didn’t get to actually watch the game until yesterday I’ll pass on joining in the overreaction. I will make a quick assessment though now that I’ve watched it, Lock needs to start scanning the ENTIRE field and stop cutting it in half with both his reads and checks at the line. One interception was due to ignoring an uncovered crossing route at the first Down marker, and he often failed to identify one on one matchups. He still has time to grow but he needs to shore up these mistakes and get his ball placement on point when he isn’t under pressure. That second interception was low and behind the receiver, there’s only so much a receiver can do While moving Horizontally and Drew has more talent than what he is showing us. No more snow game excuses he’s an NFL quarterback, no more ignoring open receivers, and for the love of god don’t ignore your own mantra of “you can’t go broke if you’re taking a profit.” Drew has the tools but we need to see them used so we have something to look forward to.
And on an unrelated note if anyone wants to go sneeze on Gordon so we can be on the better end of the turnovers this week I’ll cover your plane ticket to do so….just saying!
16-0 here we come!

Does Antonio Brown make every one else as sick as he makes me?
What’s a skill you’d like to learn and why? (Make this about something that isn’t a way to make money)

Hey Guys,
Just catching up on yesterday’s pod while tiling a kitchen floor in work. I have noticed a lot more defeatist tone in RKs voice when discussing Drew today. This is getting the alarm bells ringing…Rk please reassure me that we have a qb of the future or am I jumping the gun. To play devil’s advocate and there being 0% Trevor is there who is Elway drafting at qb if he had to and why?
Stay safe

MY BOYS! I decided to dig more into how the Broncos have fared against the Kansas City Chiefs since Andy Reid became their head coach in 2013. Obviously, the Chiefs have had greater stability at head coach, with their offensive system, at quarterback, and even at defensive coordinator than the Broncos have had since Kansas City hired Reid.
One of the biggest trends to me as to why the Broncos have struggled to defeat the Chiefs in their past ten matchups is the turnover margin. In those ten losses, the Broncos have never been on the plus side of turnovers. The best that the Broncos have done in that regard was last December at Arrowhead Stadium when both they and the Chiefs had one turnover apiece. The Broncos have had a game of -5 and two games of -3, including on Sunday, in turnover margin against Kansas City in their past ten matchups. The Broncos have also surrendered a safety, four defensive touchdowns, and a special teams touchdown in their last ten games against the Chiefs. The Chiefs are difficult enough to defend, but when a team gifts them turnovers, short fields, defensive touchdowns, and/or special teams touchdowns, without returning the favor, it will be tough, if not, impossible sledding. This is obviously a glaring issue that needs to be corrected if the Broncos want to have even a puncher’s chance against the Chiefs in future outings—and to finally put an end to the depressing losing streak that Denver is currently enduring to Kansas City.
Thank you for the all of the great individual and collective content that you produce of the Orange and Blue. DNVRMY SALUTE!

Hey guys I know the offence hasn’t been great, but I feel like our expectations are to high. In Week 1 we had no Sutton or Hamler and then Lindsay gets hurt. Week 2 Sutton comes back then is our for season then we lose lock. Then week 6 Lock is back with no Gordon or Fant. Then on Sunday Fants playing hurt and we lose Phil.
With no OTAs, minicamp, or preseason and all of the different lineups for injuries how can we expect this team to get into a good rhythm. Why can’t we start the game getting some short throws to get lock starting 4/4 for 24
Yards or something? I remember In the Manning Sanders days where we’d do a quick slant and boom 8 yards. Can’t we do that for Jeudy and get him 5 to 8 targets a game?
I am truly a lock believer. Can’t believe people want to give up on him already, he’s no Paxton.
Thanks guys!
Broncoholic
Hey guys,
So to clarify do you think we could get Frank Gore for Melvin Gordon if we traded him to the Jets? If so do it already! Much better veteran RB, and mentor for Royce.
I agree Drew Lock is pressing, but how can he not with his RB basically playing as a double agent. Is Melvin left handed? I know Lindsay is… Melvin “pitched” that flea flicker by to Lock with his left hand.
Think Gordon should be inactive on Sunday at the very least to send the team a message. Also Elway needs to call him out like he did for Bolles last year “it has to stop”. Send a message this won’t be tollerated.
Other way you can do that is fire ST coordinator. Do it; send the clear message it has to be better and see how we do. What do we have to lose at this point?
