There has been an evolution of the mantra: All Roads Lead To….
Let’s write an interesting equation:
“All roads lead to Deshaun Watson” + “All roads lead to cost controlled QB” = “All roads lead to cost controlled Deshaun Watson”.
If Patton feels Justin Fields has a decent chance of becoming a Deshaun Watson caliber QB, then let’s rewrite the equation utilizing the newest evolution of this mantra mentioned yesterday on the pod.
“All roads lead to Deshaun Watson” + “All roads lead to cost controlled QB” = “All roads lead to Justin Fields”.

Dear Patton, in the words of an overpriced tennis shoe: Just Do It!!

Hey guys!

To the Superdome! The New Orleans Saints do not have a great history against the Broncos. In fact, some of the craziest moments in Broncos history have been in the Big Easy. Wil Parks returning a blocked PAT to win the game. Al Wilson getting a pick 6. The legend of Kendall Hinton. My personal all time favorite highlight was Champ Bailey’s insane interception in 2004. Ridiculous things happen when the broncos play the saints. Maybe it’s the hoodoo curse working in our favor. But what was the best game for the Broncos, and for the Bucs?

The quarterback position is the most important position in sports, nobody knows this better than the Broncos but somehow we have been incredibly passive and risk averse in finding a franchise QB Post-Manning. For all the criticism that Elway gets, I don’t think he really gave it as much as he could.
– Brock Osweiler in the 2nd. Lame.
– Paxton Lynch at 26. Not good enough.
– Case Keenum in FA. Underwhelming.
– Joe Flacco in FA. Asinine.
– Drew Lock in the 2nd, good developmental prospect but how much faith can you possibly have in a QB you were willing to pass on 3 times?

If Justin Fields is Paton’s guy and he’s available at 4, he needs to pick up that phone and do what he needs to do to make that trade with Atlanta. You have a young team in a position to win now and the opportunity to draft rookie who I believe is capable of coming in and making an impact as a rookie. The league has changed and rookies QB are no longer write offs.

– RG3
– Dak Prescott
– Russell Wilson
– Big Ben
– Jameis Winston
– Andrew Luck
– Matt Ryan
– Joe Flacco
– Baker Mayfield
– Carson Wentz
– Andy Dalton
– Joe Burrow
– Deshaun Watson
– Justin Herbert
– Cam Newton

ALL had success as rookies. Justin Fields, with the talent we have on offense and a defense that will have us in every game, can easily find himself on that list. We’ve drafted so well in recent years I think we can afford to overpay a little. Don’t leave it to chance, identify “the guy” and go get him.

Guys,

We need a win against the DNVR team in the redzone. Can we call in a ringer in “The Count”?

There is the narritive that if you love a guy trade up and get him. Now what happens if they have no intention of getting a qb but fields drops to 9, do you take him as bpa at qb or stick to your plan? If you don’t love him is he worth taking?

One other thing a buddy was trying to convice me that trading for watson now while value is at an all time low is worth the gamble. You can presumably get him for a first and maybe a second first or a couple of seconds. If he is cleared you scored and if not then you restructure and deal with the suspension (any criminal convictions void the entirety) and try to make it a fresh start in a new city where any misconduct at all he is cut forgoing all of his contract. I am skeptical but is it worth the gamble and whats the price youd br willing to put on it so its worth the risk?

Cheers

I usually post with about 90% sarcasm, but today I won’t. Zac my dude, you are killing it. You were great on Broncos Country Tonight. It’s a weird feeling to be proud of a dude you listen to a podcast, but I was. Mind you, you do say nicer things about me after my comments than my wife does about me after just about anything I do (and I do mean anything) so perhaps my attachment is warranted. But anyway, great representation of the community and of yourself. I look forward to watching your meteoric rise.

Speaking of meteoric rises, you should have seen what rose when I heard your mates Ryan and Ben talk about the research done into outcomes of trading up in the draft. I had stop listening and have saved that pod for the next time I need to get going before a night out with the Mrs.

I did have another thought for y’all – what about if the Red Zone turned into a fan vs fan comp? That way in between questions could see the Big T try to articulate his wild takes while the Count waxes poetic about crawling back into some damp pit when the Broncos take a tackle at 9 and pass on a QB.

Hey fellas,

Right, onto Michael McCorkle Jones..

This fella has intrigued me more than I thought. He’s the sort of QB I normally hate, the weak armed guy. They have a place in the league though, just look at Philip Rivers.

I paid particular attention to his deep ball throwing, and it was competent, but these are highlights. It wasn’t as awful as everyone has said though.

I need to watch more tape on him really, but he’s playing on a stellar team with wide receivers so open it’s hard to judge. I’m worried about him not having enough zip to make those NFL tight window throws, without the mobility to extend plays and open up slow developing routes.

I can see someone taking a punt on him late in the 1st, but he’s a Day 2 QB for me really, unless someone reeeeeally thinks he’s got the brain to process like the Game Manager elites. That you can’t tell from the Alabama film as almost every game a cake walk with little pressure on him.

Broncos should leave him well alone. As should all other teams in the first. I would be stunned if the 9ers take anyone other than Fields.

Tomorrow, ‘Zatch’ Wilson (one for you there Zac)

Peace out and love to all

Hey guys! I loved Mase’s trade back mock drafts were shared on twitter yesterday and the draft capitol you were able to accumulate. I know a lot of people are hyperfocused on this year’s class. But I think people are overlooking the value that will be there in 2022. Besides the extra scouting, film and combine that will be available to judge the talent coming out of that class, there’s going to be some guys who haven’t played in a couple of years due to Covid opt outs and entire teams not playing in 2020. I have a feeling a lot of guys who were Freshman and Sophomores in 2019, and didn’t play last year, are going to make some huge jumps this fall and really surprise people. What are your thoughts on the potential of that group?

So …. I’m all aboard the Justin fields train …..

I think even though I love and want to give drew another shot it’s more like …I “LIKE” drew and want to give him another shot and if there’s a new culture in denver if we have addressed all our talent if players are ready to win and I believe they are !! We can not keep losing because of qb play fans and players are OVER IT ! …with that said ….

If George Patton grade is an A this far

What do you give him if we come out of this draft without fields or lance because he wouldn’t trade up #1 ???

#2 on a scale of 1-10 how would u rank your belief In drew to.turn it around …. because may we not forget …..we were super disappointed we didn’t address the tackle issue at all last year ??? And BOOM Bolles stepped up in a major way ….. So could the broncos know something we don’t ? If they don’t trade up ?

Fellas,

If the Broncos take one of the Tackles at 9 do you see them moving on from Ja’wuan James regardless of the cap hit?

What’s up boys

So I heard you guys talking about the Elway Lynch connection a couple of days ago and then I started speculating…

So Elway/Paton may know what SF WANTS at 3 but can we really be too sure who the Jets are taking? Lawrence is pretty much a lock at 1, and if the Jets just traded Darnold couldn’t you assume that the Jets would want a QB with the most experience and not a potential bust? I feel like besides Lawrence, Fields is the most experienced, and most polished QB in the game. Not trying to take away anything from Lance but he did play in the FCS. Zach Wilson was good, but who did they play? Coastal Carolina? He and Mac Jones stock only shot you because there’s so many QB needy teams.

I feel like if Paton knew he could get “his guy” he would have done it by now while the Falcons are “listening” to trade offers. If in the back of his mind he knew who SF was selecting and we all know who JAX is taking that probably means that he thinks Justin Fields is going 3.

Not to mention, George Paton said that his motto is to draft and develop players. The exact opposite of that would be trading away your draft stock for someone that you don’t even know if you’ll get.

I honestly wouldn’t mind rolling with Drew Lock again this year. You guys know what he did with the same Offensive Coordinator at Mizzou maybe with the excellent coaching in Mike Shula we could see him pop this year. Plus on top of that we could get better somewhere else on the Roster whether that’s Tackle, Corner, or LB.

My prediction is that we roll with Drew, and there’s a slight QB competition because Denver will bring in either Alex Smith or Gardner Minshew. Hell we might even take a QB round 3 for that competition.

Thanks Boys sorry it was long

Much love

Oh, and the Aussie (you pronounce it Ozzy, Zac), that called me out on the last pod…..if you seriously think Trey Lance is a better prospect than Lamar Jackson coming out of college, then you need to lay off the soda, son.

Oh, and Mase and RK asked if I would still be a Broncos Fan if we drafted Trey Lance? As soon as he pulls on Orange and Blue, he’s ma boi, and I’ll no longer trash him, just support him, 100%
