Guys, I was about to write a comment about how the Broncos need to address the oline early and often in the 2020 draft, and forget about every other position till they get that fixed. Then after listening to you guys on the pod talking about going up against Mahomes and the chiefs for the next 10 years it got me thinking a little different. We need the firepower to keep up! In the latest mock draft on draft network they had Jerry Jeudy falling to the Broncos with the top 2 tackles off the board. The more I thought about this the better it felt as the right path forward. Give our intergalactic gunslinger Lock the weapons he needs to do battle with the evil empire of the Chiefs. Question is, if you had your choice of the top receiver in the draft, or if one of the top 2 tackles is still available, which do you choose?

Hey friends. Mase, unbelievable rushing stats, all the way back to the McIdiot era in 60 more minutes of play? As we now know, we are really all the way back to 1970-1972 for losing seasons streak. I guess if my stein is half full, we can only go up from the valley of dispair, aka a world of suck. 🙁 Someone grab Von on the way out please! GO DREW/BRONCOS/ZOOMIES

I know some fans are down on the defense after the Chiefs game, but the 23 points the Chiefs scored on Sunday were the second lowest of the Mahomes era. Vic’s redzone defense in that game was great, and the fact that he was doing it with all the injuries and against one of the best offenses in the NFL, was impressive.

Anyway, Mase, I heard that you were present on the radio when Ben Allbright dropped some information about Garrett Bolles hiring a coach to help him with the mental side of the game. Can you elaborate on this, if possible?

I know we got fooled into thinking he had turned a corner last year, but I think there’s a real possibility that the Broncos are content with going into the 2020 with Bolles as their starter. As much as he frustrates the fanbase- 0 sacks, 1 QB hit and 2 QB hurries allowed over the past 5 games is impressive.

In response to the Ruggs discussion today, a prospect who has the combination of vertical speed + lateral agility is KJ Hamler from Penn State. He’s as twitched-up as any receiver in the draft not named Jerry Judy. If he declares, I think he could go in the early-mid 2nd round range. What he’s missing from his game that Ruggs does have is the physicality to win at the catch point. The combination of all three skills (speed, agility, physicality) is what makes Tyreek so unique and I’m not sure there’s a guy who checks all three boxes in this draft. Even getting two of the three gives you a great skill set to work with as a compliment to Sutton.

Hi Fam!!! Sorry it’s been a while since I checked in with my DNVR fam. Between life being crazy, the roller coaster ride the Broncos gave me this season paired with trying to quit smoking (five months in five days). I felt my comments would have been so bipolar it was best to keep those to myself. I haven’t listened to this pod yet, I just mostly wanted to say hi. Love all the new members of the fam!!! Love y’all! #thisisbroncoscountry

Hey guys, (missed it on the last pod, so reposting)

new sub here from the Quad Cities. I’ve been listening since the River Cracraft Juul episode in training camp and have been hooked ever since (sorry it took so long). you guys are great!

On Von, I’m only moving him for two first rounders minimum and that would still be hard for me. I think next year is definitely a playoff year and there should be enough $$$ and draft capital to make this team deeper.

Also, am I the only one who would want to keep Shelby over Wolfe if I had to choose? Anyways, keep up the great work!

Hey guys,so when talking about cornerbacks, names that keeps coming up in my head are Marcus Peters and Ronald Darby. Theyre young and explosive. Marcus Peters is a pipe dream but i believe possible in my own little made up world. Another thing is that i truly believe that this Broncos team is ready to explode next year. I think a good left tackle and a center or gaurd and a couple wideouts and this offense will be great. I feel upset about how the broncos have been lately especially with how good the nuggets and avs have been but i have hope for this team.

Guys,

Hearing about K Jacks DUI is frustrating. I get people make mistakes, but there are some professions out there that would immediately terminate or take away your license to practice if you get a DUI. The NFL and other professional sports leagues need to get tougher penalties when it comes to this stuff. Luckily with K Jack‘s situation nobody got hurt, but when you make millions there really is no excuse to not hire a driver to take you home.

With that being said let’s talk football… Drew Lock IS the guy. He had a bad game in his 3rd start ever. A lot of great HOF QB’s had rough first seasons. I want the Broncos to draft nothing but offense offense OFFENSE! They have leaned on the defense for so many years now, it’s time to turn the tables and start putting points on the board. Offensive line, WR, WR in the first 3 rounds would be nice!
I also want to bring up the fact that the Chiefs were smart enough to run double move and “shake” routes in the snow to slow down the DB’s because WR’s know where they are going, and the defense doesn’t. I’m curious why Denver didn’t try the same thing, instead they ran a lot of crossing, over, and go routes. I would hope that Scangarello or Fangio could make a call mid game to try and involve some more of those route concepts.
Sorry for the long post, I had a lot to get off my chest.

I understand why people get upset about pro-bowl snubbery, but who really cares if someone gets to go “play” in a fake game?

I suppose it may add $$$ to a guy’s contract and for that I’m a fan, but there’s got to be a better way to recognized dudes, doesn’t there? Like maybe Xmas bonuses or custom rubber hyperbaric chambers from Denver rubber Co? How bout the DNVR awards ?

Am I wrong to feel that Sutton should of made the pro bowl over Von? Both played amazing and I love Von but Sutton somehow has 1000 yard with three different QB and he’s mad some amazing catches.

After listening to the last pod, I still think Von’s comments were blown out of proportion. He was frustrated, obviously he wants to be on a winning team. What competitor doesn’t? I think he wants to stay in Denver AND I think he wants to be on a team that is gonna put pieces in place to play meaningful football in December. Those aren’t mutually exclusive. Obviously it’s a business, but I think Von stays in Denver at least through one more contract.
Two more thoughts:
Simmons was a total snub, what a joke. I’m sad he won’t get that accolade for such a great season he’s put together. The game itself is a joke, but nobody can take the title of “pro bowler” away from you. He deserves that for this season.
Final thought, Chris Harris is right. This team needs a lot of pieces! I really am looking forward to seeing how Elway handles the FA period needing OL, WR, DL and secondary help. The grocery list is long, but are there specifically any WR in the FA market that you guys wanna see in Denver next year?

Do you guys think there’s any substance to the argument that Von is making? I’m with you guys, that this offseason is different because of Drew; however, my brother is not in the same boat. He thinks we will be bad for at least five more years. Thoughts?

Fun question to all 3 of you (or two, if RK isn’t there):

At what age did you realize you wanted to work in sports media?

And Mase, I’m not fully aware of your Broncos connection. How did you come about covering this beloved team of ours?

Fellas,
Curious if there is an easy defensive strategy to shut down fant since he can’t judge the ball in the air he isn’t a deep threat so assume teams could just cover short route unders. Are teams starting to do that to him? If not, why not?

Mase, what are your thoughts on the Mandolorian? Curious if there are any tie ins with the Rise of Skywalker. Side note, as someone who is sitting on a lot of Drew Lock Rookie cards I truly hope he pans out. I am starting him in fantasy Chips this week hoping for a huge bounce back game.

Call me old fashioned but I dont think you can shut the door on Von Miller. I like idea of having a life long Bronco. I love seeing the passion at the podium because you can visually see how much he cares not just about himself but this team and the fans as well. Von has way more value than just the sack total. Do you think that Vic is the type of coach to really have an open heart to heart with Von about how we can maximize his use within this scheme? Von is a freak of nature and I firmly disagree that this is the decline year. Von is just the guy you want and has all the intangibles. Do you think Vic has it in him to feature Von in the rush more even if its outside of the scope or his normal scheme? More exotic rush and twist looks perhaps? Theres no way that Von suddenly became so much less effective so quickly.

I feel like there’s a middle ground on the Von Miller thing

We know:
-Von wants to use whatever years he has left playing meaningful football
-Elway did right by DT and Sanders by sending them to competitive teams

Pick up the team option, and see how the first half of next season plays out. If it’s another dud send him to a contender before the trade deadline. If there’s hope keep him around and let him be a career Bronco.

May lose some trade value by waiting, but the option value seems worthwhile.

Ok Mase, after thinking about my Tebow rant, I have decided to save it for the off-season. It’s not suitable for now, when we have so much other stuff to talk about; draft prospects, Drew Lock development, Von’s sad face, coaching schemes, to name but a few..

I will quickly say though, that you said Tebow being labelled as a hard-worker annoyed you and other players, and I get that, but that’s not on him, and it sounded like you were suggesting that. He has never said “I work harder than anyone else”, and has never been arrogant. He has this aura of confidence, sure, but NEVER arrogant. Just wanting clarity on this point.

Love you Mase

Mase, just getting back to you on Henry Ruggs;

The thing that separates him from previous burner receivers is that he is excellent in contested catch situations. That’s something that was a red flag for John Ross when he was entering the draft. It’s also something Tyreek Hill led the NFL in last year and something that players like Reagor and Hamler struggle with, and why I’m fully on board with them taking Ruggs in the first round. He’s just a better overall prospect IMO.

Understand your point about him probably not having Hill’s shiftiness, and he’s not a refined route runner yet, but I don’t think he’ll have many issues in getting separation while he works on his route running.

1. The Chiefs game didn’t concern me much. While I had let my optimism get the better of me and convince me we’d win…that loss certainly didn’t shatter my faith in Drew.
2. I fully expect a stress-free butt kicking this Sunday that we can all enjoy and can put a smile back on Von’s bespectacled face. IF this doesn’t happen…how much cause for concern is there?
3. Mr B
4. Speaking of B…I agree with the commenter yesterday speaking of Denver’s draft strategy. Our first three draft picks should consist of the triple B: Big Beefy Boys. Let’s Bolster that O-line and give Drew time to throw and the backs room to run. You can’t run the spread, west coast, run and shoot, wishbone, fun and gun, or air raid without them.

Comment for Mase. Your comment about there being a reason Lock was a second round pick got me thinking. There has been a quite a few QBS taken in late rounds that turned out awesome. Roger Starbuck, Joe Theisman, Mark Rypen and ultimately Tom Brady. So with that do you think that knocking him for being a second round pick is short sighted? Also, what factors made Brady a 6th round pick? Keep up the awesome work.

Hey DNVR fam, second time commenting, I listen to every pod but I’ll admit I have only listened to the first few minutes of this one but wanted to chime in with a lot of random thoughts that have been accumulating over the last few months. Tin foil hat time is it possible that since Von is paid QB money.. Elway approached Von to restructure to a more team friendly deal just like he did to PFM? That plus the down year, plus the multiple years of suck have put Von in this emotional dump.
1) If Elway hasn’t asked Von to restructure, shouldn’t he? I know we’ll have a ton of cap space but more is better = quicker turn around.
2)Drew SkyLocker – The force is strong with this one. Not a great game against KC but a great future ahead of him.
3) for Mr B
4) Sign Justin or franchise him if you can’t
5) Too much Elway hate by fans, if you step back and compare the teams accomplishments under his tenure he matches up VERY favorably to other GMs during the same time span.
6) more RK please, special assignment completion date?
7) for Elway – which I still trust

Sorry for the long post.

I just wanted to throw my two cents in as far as the three favorite wide receivers of all time go.

Rod Smith
Eric Decker
Emmanuel Sanders
With Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal being VERY close to making it.

Hey Guys!
I just read the rule book and turns out the Broncos are actually allowed to cover tight ends!! Who knew! Someone give our coaches the memo!

Still not a fan of our offensive scheme and where has our rushing game gone?
Did you hear Harbaugh talk about taking Lamar after the game the other day. Basically said of course we had a plan for him, if you don’t adjust your scheme to fit your players you aren’t a good coach or organization. Hmmm! Last time the super bowl was won with this scheme? Can’t think of anything recent?

Why do so many national mock drafts have us taking Delpit first overall? Did you see McShay has 8 receivers and 2 running backs going in the first round? That sounds crazy but quite possible I suppose but can’t see it happening.

Should Coach Cooper be fired? Surely he signed off on James right?

What happens with the contract if Flacco retires before he is cut? I know he wouldn’t but just wondering how it would work.
Have a great day guys!
