The talk about tenders is interesting since there seem to be quite a few guys where you’re on the bubble about.

The way I look at it is which of these guys have proven that they belong in the league.

Wilkinson is a no brainer. A utility OL depth piece is huge and keeping one who can play tackle in a pinch is well worth the 3 million.

Purcell is another guy who you have to bring back. Considering how often DL get nicked up, it would be well worth it to have Purcell as a backup NT who can also play early down DE snaps. Even if you sign a guy like Reader, having Purcell on the team guarantees that you have a guy who can step in and play at a high level. I’d love to get him signed to a 2-3 year, low average deal if we could swing it.

Patrick, Bausby and Jones are guys who haven’t really proven themselves imo. I like Mase’s idea with Patrick and Bausby: try to sign them to a longer deal now with some guarantees to make them bite. They won’t be big names but having Bausby as CB4/5 or Patrick as WR 4/5 gives you assurance when injuries hit.

Question: with how he performed in the season, what are your thoughts on extending Alexander Johnson? If he has another excellent year, he’s gonna be much more expensive now then if you try to sign him next season.

hey guys real quick got a fact check for you. Tim Patrick is an exclusive rights free agent this year and only costs $660k. And FWIW if it was an original round tender i wouldnt tend him.

How’s the lie tracker going? I’ve been going pretty well. Though I’ve had a few moments where I’ve just bit my tounge and avoided answering so not to give even a little lie. DNVR is making me a better human. Probably offset by the rampant alcoholism of being a die hard broncos fan which DNVR has been a catalyst in.

Non Football Question: Zac – it’s been 6 years since I’ve run a marathon but I am thinking about doing another. I’d like to do a “destination run” and I think I’d love to do one in Colorado. Are there any marathons you’d recommend running in Co. ? As beautiful as possible would be preferred – if I’m going to run for 42km I’d prefer it not be through the Great Plains….

When you take into account 1 or 2 teams (*cough* Raiders) will pick an over valued prospect, and there will be at least 2 QBs, and you look at the top 15 on the board – man, how can we miss? It almost seems impossible for one of top OT or top WR to not be there at 15?

Ruggs, Jeudy, Lamb, Thomas, Wirfs – what does the world look like where one of these isn’t at 15? It seems to me like if they all go, we end up with an incredible talent like Kinlaw? Seems like a great board for us overall.

Mase, you mentioned Aaron Brewer on today’s podcast. I’ve always wondered what happened to him. Seemed like there was a lot of suspicion when he got cut. Didn’t he get dismissed while on the team plane or something like that?

Assuming five of the top 14 will consist of the three QB’s everyone agrees will be gone and then also Young and Okudah, we are GUARANTEED one of these ten prospects:

He Is a 5 time pro-bowler in 6 seasons and is only 26 years old.
My only issue with him is that he only played 13 games in 5 of his 6 seasons.

I’m not going to start making draft predictions or asking you to weigh in on my theories until after FA but I do have a bone to pick with the NFL over combine scheduling.

I noted the other day that quite a few WRs predicted to run sub 4.4s failed to do so, and it can be argued the NFL is wholly responsible for that. As soon as I heard the 40 and certain athletic events would air live in prime time I felt for the athletes. Any sports science expert can tell you that athletes perform better early in the morning due to increased testosterone production in your sleep. Numbers decrease throughout the day and when you add the exhaustion from the long days and increased cortisol production from the stress of always being observed and having to perform, these guys were not set up to perform at their peak.

The scheduling wouldn’t drop a 4.4 to a 4.55, but at the highest levels when a couple hundredths of a second count it makes a difference. Bottom line is in my opinion the combine is the one event they shouldn’t schedule for the purpose of ratings, those scores are the difference in possibly millions for these kids.

Thus concludes my rant, thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Hey guys, long time with no comment. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on military academy grads now being eligible for the NFL without the 2 year service requirement before playing.

Does Cole Christensen or Elijah Riley fit as a depth piece for the Broncos in the later rounds of this draft? It seems like West Point team captains would be in line with the type of character players the team has been aiming for in the draft lately.

Hey guys, i loved the combine coverage all around DNVR, you do a great job all year round.

When you talk about Lock having the best half of the season when James was in the game, that, combined with your intel from Indy, it only makes more sense to draft the best OT available at 15. Lock had an excellent sack ratio but imagine what this offense could do with a good line, i think wr2 they can draft in the second round because they already have a wr1 and i think Fant should be target #2.

I don’t think the Broncos will sign Byron Jones, i think they will go for two Cb an not just one, i think they will go for a Kendall Fuller or Logan Ryan and also Amukamara. That paired with Callahan would make a very impressive group.

Mase, you gave up on South Park too soon. The early seasons were all about breaking taboos and making off color jokes. Comedy Central also forced writers into the show that did more harm than good. Once Matt Stone and Trey Parker got full control of the show, they started making the show topical. They write a new episode every week during the season (start writing Thursday, new episode airs the following Wednesday). This allows them to be more topical than any other show on television. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are two of the most brilliant minds in comedy. You don’t win 5 Emmys, 9 Tonys, and an Oscar nomination if all you can do is shock comedy.

mase, what do you think of robert hunt from la lafayette as a prospect? i’m very intrigued by him and think he’s a great fit for what we expect shurmur likes in a lineman. great combo of size/athleticism/power. the broncos had a formal visit with him so there may be some genuine interest there.

in my mind, they draft him in round 3, he either redshirts this year or competes with wilkinson at rg and is then the starting RT in 2021 if/when they move on from james

probably in the minority here, but i don’t see the broncos addressing o-line with any sorta urgency this offseason, and i’m comfortable with that. i can see them looking at some interior guys and developmental tackle types on day 2/day 3, but that’s probably the route they’re going.

Obviously it’s tough to have a prediction before free agency, but I think with how everyone is testing in Indy, the tackles may go a little earlier that I originally thought and there’s gonna be a great WR to pick for us at 15.

Overall, my thought on the draft is that I trust Fangio on defense and trust Munchak along the offensive line. Whoever we draft on defense or offensive line I’ll know they were drafted with that coach’s seal of approval. I love having such respected coaches on our staff.

My question to you is this. Do you think the Broncos will draft more receivers or offensive linemen in the draft this year?

I’m about a week behind on pods because I got a promotion and it’s been a bit stressful #slightflex #slightstress

Anyways, I had to get in on this “worst roommate” debate with a story. I attended CSU Pueblo for a semester while trying to walk on to the baseball team. I was randomly paired with a very awkward (but nice) guy in the dorms. I had obviously never met him and he happened to have a mostly deaf girlfriend who was ALWAYS with him, including every night.

Anyways apparently when you are mostly deaf you do not realize when you moan during night time activities and I developed a habit of sleeping with rain sounds and a pillow over my head in order to drown out the noises of coitus. Long story short I needed Tommy Johns and I did not stay for another semester for a lot of reasons lol

Unlike my short stay in Pueblo, I cannot wait for the climax of the draft and see who the Broncos come away with.

A week or so before the Senior bowl i had mentioned that id love to get Denzel Mims on this team and it seemed like a collective “eh” from both this pod and the draft pod. Over the course of the last couple weeks it seems like Mims is starting to gain some traction around the country, so let me ask again. Would you like if we came away with Denzel Mims in the 2nd as the first wideout we take? I am thinking Tackle in the 1st and grabbing Mims in the 2nd?

Sup brothers! Hope the combine waw dope. I have been catching up to the pod as I’ve been predisposed with my first Mardi Gras living in New Orleans… Holy shit guys, it gets wild down here. People literally died, which is very sad, but that’s how inebriated people go for there parades and stuff.

I was just listening to a pod from last week about the topic of being woken by strange things and have a story. Also Ryan (I’m sure somebody said this already but if they haven’t), that state of semi consciousness that exists between sleepworld and real world is called sleep paralysis, and it’s terrifying, I have plenty of those stories too.

Here is my story…my girlfriend and I would always sleep with Netflix on so inevitably in the night I would wake up and turn the TV off. One such night I woke up, and grab the TV remote from my right and lean up to turn the TV off. As I lay back down to go to sleep, in my periphs I see my lady sitting bolt upright on my left, peering out into the newly completely dark room. I’m expecting her to say something and when she doesn’t I nudge her and say “babe, what’s up”… She slowly and without taking her eyes off the empty, dark void of the room, raises her finger and points to the corner while saying, “who’s that?” I immediately tear my gaze to where she’s pointing saying “who’s who!… Who’s who!”, because all I could see was darkness. When she doesn’t say anything in response a chance a glance her way and she’s laying back down dead asleep. Needless to say i was terrified and didn’t sleep the rest of the night… That’s how I found out she is a sleep talker.

Hey guys, I just saw a mock draft on NFL Network that put Justin Herbert all the way down to the Patriots at 23. I don’t think this would happen, but that’s not really what scared me. What scared me was the nightmare scenario where Herbert drops to 15 and Elway goes bonkers and picks him. I would lose it if they did this, but how much can we really trust John’s endorsement of Lock at the combine? How disastrous would this scenario be?

We should extend Lindsay and Aj Johnson this off-season so we can get them for cheaper than if we wait. We could have save at least 8 million if we resigned Simmons and Shelby Harris during last offseason. Wouldn’t want to make the same mistakes.

2. He only cost a late 4th rounder from the Emmanuel Sanders trade. Now that trade is: Emanuel Sanders and a mid-fifth rounder for AJ Bouye and a 3rd rounder. Not bad.

5. I believe he had a down year this season, but Jacksonville’s D as a whole had a down year. Hard to know how much blame he deserves. I expect a rebound in Denver.

I’m proud to announce that I figured it out… I figured out a way for the broncos to be in the Super Bowl within two years max. So without further do let’s get down to it. First, free agency. My plan is to resign Simmons, Elijah Wilkinson and Devonte’ Bausby. EW 2.67mil DB: 1.87 mil JS: 14.2mil. I’ll let wolfe, Shelby, and Chris walk. Then I’m going to sign Arik armstead (for approximately 17mil), DJ reader (for 12), and trade my fourth round pick for Darius slay and sign him to a three-year 42 million dollar deal……. we’ll shit, just as I’m typing this my brother texts me and says we got bouye… on second thought he will More than suffice! Anyway in the draft I’ll trade up to 11 or 12 giving up a late 3rd and 6th. I’ll grab Either jeudy or wirfs and flip flop in the second Round by grabbing the best tackle available (Jones, PTW, Jackson, Niang) or tee Higgins/she nails/raegor depending on the 1st round move. Next I combine the two thirds and move back in to the second Round for the 2nd year in a row to grab Tyler biadsz just to appease mase. But seriously Guys we’re talking about a potential line up of (jeudy, Sutton, Lindsay, fant, biadsz, risner, Wilkinson, josh Jones, juwaan james on O. And AJ bouye, bausby, calahan, reader, armstead, Chubb, Von, Kareem, and Simmons)

Assuming Bouye demands 13.5 mil a year. That will be an off-season expenditure of 61.5mil leaving 20mil to sign the small draft class and other necessary depth pieces.
