What’s with the cryptic Jerry Jeudy tweets?
DTL
Hey guys,
Sorry this might be a little long but I want to get ur opinion on something. Going back b4 the season almost everyone had us going 10 and 6 except Nick Wright. Then the bug strikes the team pretty bad, but with hindsight now seeing von, Sutton, and Casey missing virtually the whole season bouye and Callahan missing half the season. Shelby missing a quarter of it fant, jeudy, and Lindsay playing with nagging injuries and likely Gordon to miss 2 of these last 4 what would you honestly expect our record to be. I think people are just so stuck on those hopes we had going in and not fully realizing what we have lost is the reason so many people are upset. Those are just my thoughts, what say you?
BRONCOS-SQUARED
BroncoBornBroncoBred asked the same question I was going to inquire about. This evening someone thought his tweets were in connection with OBJs comments on Shurmur ruining his career. Someone needs to sit him down, I’m not digging this vibe Jeudy SEEMS to be putting off, but maybe we’re all super wrong.
Anyway, let’s keep in mind that most of us probably watch Lock with a microscope and compare him to five or six epic throws of other quarterbacks during highlight reels. I’m still in on Lock, but he’s got quite a bit still to work on.
Casper
Fellas,
Let me see if I understand the NFL’s logic with COVID. You need to wear a mask at all times while on the sideline unless your wearing a helmet. How does that make sense? Dez Bryant was seen hugging and shaking hands with others before his test came back but he had no close contacts? Can the league at least make it seem like they are trying to be consistent with this. If they really cared about this virus they would have either had Dez quarantine until his test came back or postpone the game and have both teams re-test. Why does Denver get have to have the whole QB room quarantine but nobody in the Dallas Baltimore game? How say you?
Garett Bolles
Lol I just know that Elway’s QB board is:
1. Lawrence
2. Wilson
3. Trask
4. Jones
5. Lance
6. Fields
Anyway, the Broncos HAVE to trade for Stafford if they can, in my opinion. He even said the chances of him getting traded is “probably pretty decent” and “definitely think that’s within the realm of possibility.” That man is really talented and to add a veteran like Matt to our young offense and elite defense (next year), would make us easy contenders. If we had Stafford this year; we would have won on Sunday and would be fighting for the top wild card spot. The first round pick I’m trading would have to be outside the top 10, otherwise I’m not doing that trade.
I know this will never happen but hypothetically, what would it take to get Deshaun Watson? Let’s say he requests a trade or something.
Auszee
GARRETT!!! Love your work on the Left side. Keep it up. Deshaun can’t be traded, face of the franchise and early in a massive contract. They would lose 67M off their cap and have 76M in dead money. Would love to have him, but that’s not possible now.

We shouldn’t bring on someone like Darnold, Wentz, or Trubisky. How many years will it be of circling the drain of garbage QBs or going crack house to crack house before we stop? We’re doing our best to become the Browns or the Jets of the past couple decades. That said, Trubisky is a distinctly better QB at this point than Drew so I’d probably take him if we had to, but let’s see how the season finishes for each.
Also, I want to hear Drew say something like “I was wrong to say shooters gonna shoot and that I would make that throw to Jeudy every time” or something at least. I was team Drew for a while and liked his attitude at first, but I thought on it some more. I realized when you’re doing poorly at your job or struggling like Drew has been, you can’t have the gall and attitude to dismiss your mistakes like that. Mahomes gets to be a “shooter”. QBs who throw to the other team when they “shoot” and have one and a half interceptions for every touchdown they throw don’t get to say that stuff. I’m starting to see Drew’s attitude in a different, less rosy light. He’s looking stuck-up and set in his ways and that’s not the attitude you want for your QB.
Anyway, I’m told I’m an optimist, but the place this team finds itself has lead to lots of negative comments from me. To lighten things up a bit and have some fun, can you guys name the 4 quarterbacks who won their first 4 starts? Answer will be in a comment and below is a small hint if you guys want it:
Multiple of them have spent time in our division.

Answer key for the question…
Patrick Mahomes
Drew Brees
Trevor Siemian
Roethlisberger

Latest tweet by Jeudy liked by Melvin Gordon: “it all makes sense now lol” after the OBJ article about Pat Shurmur clearly seems to be a shot right at Pat… man we need continuity but how can Vic go to the offensive players and keep a guy whom they don’t trust? Is 2021 #ShulaSzn? Adam Driver perfectly sums up every emotion I feel about offense since 2016: (link) https://youtu.be/RmC2QtKBTKM

Love the draft conversation on the last pod, great to hear your three thoughts along with the draft pod guys.
Mase, can we get a scouting report on the Wisconsin offensive lineman please? Thanks.
Auszee
RK, yes I’m lower on Fields, but we are right. Zach, Jones needs to do it when under pressure but right on cusp on 1st/2nd to me so far.
Mr. Elway, please no stop gap QB’s. We don’t need trash competing with a borderline starter. Let’s put a couple of these to bed…..
Carson Wentz – if traded or cut in 2021 prior to June 1, 59M dead money and a cap savings of -24M, that means the estimated 2021 cap of 176M, drops to 152M for the Eagles. They can only move on from Wentz in 2022 and still have 24.5M in dead money. Stuckville!!
Matt Ryan – 49M in dead money and a cap savings of -9M, Atl would be insane to do that
Dwayne Haskins – 11M dead money and cap savings of -8.5M, Rivera might move on, but better to wait a year.
Teddy Bridgewater – 20M dead money, 3M cap savings, not available I would expect.
Matt Stafford – 19M dead money, alot, but 14M in cap savings. New owner, new GM, defense is their real issue, mostly likely inclined to keep for stability
Trubisky, Darnold and Winston likely to be available. Yuck!!!
There is one other QB would is likely to be available. They have an out this year where it’s only 2.8M in dead money and 24M in cap savings…… Jimmy Garrapolo.
I don’t want him, I want to take a shot at a possible 15 year guy in the draft as I don’t see us in the top 10 again for awhile. But your thoughts on Jimmy G????
MavBronco
Howdy Gents,
Listening to you talk about the QB situation going into the draft this morning. In terms of a hedge QB, instead of signing a high priced hedge, how likely do you view Elway rolling with Blake Bortles again as the hedge QB? Familiar with the system already. I’m not loving it, but could see Elway liking going with it
Thanks fir the pod as always
Cody
Hey guys. Guess I’m asking for a history lesson. I was talking to someone this weekend about how some teams just are qb killers. I names off a few and he added Denver. He said outside of Elway and Manning, no qb has really been “the guy”. I wanted to argue but have to be honest, my knowledge pre-DNVR is limited. Liked the team my whole life but didn’t know the players. Are these really the only two? Surely I can count on you guys to name off a few more for me. Thanks.

Hey guys! I’m finding It difficult to grade Drew Lock because the start of his career has been so unconventional. On the one hand, there are so many barriers which have limited his ability to develop. For instance, between his injury last year and Covid this season, he has never completed an entire preseason. He had to learn two different offenses. He has also suffered a pair of injuries to his throwing arm affecting both his thumb and shoulder. He also lost his safety blanket in Courtland Sutton this year and has been throwing to a group of inexperienced receivers.
On the other hand, he hasn’t put up numbers that are indicative of a long-term starter. The rookie QB’s this season have looked just as good as Lock, if not better, despite the lack of preseason. And although he did play well against a Bellicheck defense, it was after the Patriots hadn’t practiced for two weeks. My heart sees a guy who has all the intangibles and the work ethic to be a good Q in this league, but my gut is telling me he’s never gonna make it. Is this how Raiders fans felt about Derek Carr before this year?
MillerLife58
I was listening to Colin Cowherd yesterday and he mentioned something pretty interesting… he was going through QBs drafted in the last few years and noted how their success was almost directly correlated to how good their coaching staff was. It made me think that maybe Drew isn’t the issue. Maybe the problem is something much larger. Denver has become a place that is tough for QBs to develop. Not deflecting all the blame off of Drew, but when was the last time the Broncos actually developed a QB? Thanks for the great content, guys!

If Fangio stays we should draft Kwity Paye.

At this point, what are your updated opinions on the percentage chance that Lock ever emerges as a franchise QB?
Lock’s statistical peer group at this stage in his career per Mase is extremely damning.
RK on Sunday, “Maybe the Broncos should give Lock another year to find out if he can be the guy”. Zac isn’t it about time you took RK aside and said, “Open your eyes!”?

I can’t believe we have a player on our team getting suspended for PEDs. SMH. This almost never happens in football like it does in baseball.. I didn’t like what Vic said after the saints game about our quarterbacks when he threw them under the bus, but this is definitely a situation where there’s nobody to blame but AJ Bouye and let his teammates, the fans and the entire organization down with this failed test. He absolutely knew what he was doing and the Broncos should already have decided to not resign after this season. Is that to harsh to say? What do you guys think?
dan birk
hey guys!
i’m trying to think back to 2018 when the broncos got the opportunity to coach the senior bowl and i remember they did it even though they were picking 5th.
is there a rule about teams that will have new coaching staffs not being allowed to coach them? because if that’s the case, the broncos probably have a good shot at coaching the it this year because most of the teams currently picking ahead of them will have new coaching staffs.
BroncoBornBroncoBred
Double dipping with a quick thing I noticed:
Drew Lock has now entered the Pardon My Take laughing stock zone. Really sucks for him cause all the barstool cult followers can get ruthless on Twitter, who knows maybe it helps him.
larrydennjr
RYAN !!! ?? TESTIFY !!! ……IT is 100% damning that you look at the offense and drew is your only issue….. I need something bold …..joel klatt said something completely true ! …..our qb hopes rely and start with von ……Von u have to take a paycuo so we can afford aquiring a matt ryan or stafford …… I feel drew needs time ! And this team is ready now ! I need Elway to decently fix this qb sistuation hire a qb and oc tandem ! And then make sure that oc/qb coach is able to develop drew ! That’s the only hope o can muster Dak#1 , ryan #2 and stafford #3 ….stafford should be number one cuz I mean given his injury history drew could come in and show some stuff but drew ISN’T THE GUY !!! ….at least for now we have to move on and let drew develop more awesome pod yesterday AWESOME !
LouDrock
Hey guys,
Hope you are all well.
QB question for you. If you were forced to choose a QB for the Broncos for next season and beyond right now, who would you choose out of:
– Lock
– Wentz (providing the contract can be worked out)
– Darnold (we give the Jets a second)
– Dak (based on giving him a huge contract)
– Stafford (we give Detroit our first and they give us a third in return)
– Zach Wilson
– Trey Lance
– Kyle Trask
Cheers!
Charlie
Andrew Mason
Prescott is my first choice — especially if money is no object.
Butch Cassidy
Guys. Listen. I do not know how in good conscious you look at that O-line we have out there right now let alone our last 6 years of O line play and say QB is our only real offensive draft need. I’d much rather bank on Drew panning out next year than Ja’Wuan James starting more than 2 games. He basically has not played football in two years and there’s no guarantee that he will have the mentality or the physical toughness to be what we want him to be next year. What we have now is good in theory until someone gets hurt, regresses, or opts out. Then its a major liability. If you are gonna double down on a position group do it at O-line. It’s not sexy but any joe off the street can get 3.5 yards a carry through a monster hole. Young QBs can read the field better in a clean pocket and veteran QBs like to go where they will be protected. And everyone needs good offensive linemen. If you find yourself with 8 good linemen you have tradable assets. Yeah it’s cool to see Munchak build solid structures with wood. Imagine what he could do with steel.
Schweed
So, just out of curiosity, since we put so much praise on the Garrett Bolles turn around to Mike Munchak, why do we not put as much blame on Drew’s play to Mike Shula? Why does Pat Shurmer get the blame?
Joshua Krefetz
In more ways than not, isn’t the Bouye suspension a positive for the Broncos? His absence will certainly hurt the defense, increasing the chances that we:
(a) lose and improve draft positioning,
(b) give up more points per game requiring Shurmer to “unleash Lock” in order to compete, thus providing more data points for evaluation, and
(c) doesn’t it open up cap space?
Overthecap shows a 2020 cap number for AJ of $13.375M, which means ~$3M is forfeited due to suspension. If that is accurate and we can roll that money over…why are we not talking about what a team player AJ Bouye is?!?!
Hey guys, I think it’s probably safe to guess a quarterback will be added in the offseason, and I’m curious as to who you think would be Elway’s most likely target.
As far as veterans go, Matt Stafford is the obvious choice but there’s no guarantee that he’ll be available, it’s not hard to imagine the new regime in Detroit feeling like Matthew is their best option going into 2021. Dak would be another obvious one, but again, no guarantee he can be had. From there, and maybe more likely for us is a football rehab guy like Darnold or Wentz. Do you guys think either would be a fit or someone John Elway would covet? He liked both of them going into the draft and we’ve seen flashes of brilliance from both (less so from Darnold) so maybe Elway thinks a change of situation could be beneficial. I know we may not be the most stable landing spot, but we have a top end defense, a great young supporting cast, and a stable coaching staff. So I’d say it’s more like moving from a crack house to a really nice crack house.
Lastly, there’s the draft. Lawrence won’t be in range, Fields isn’t Elway’s type, nevermind the fact that all he does is stand in clean pockets and throw to wide open guys. Lance I think is a little to raw and I can’t see us pulling the trigger on another long term term project. Zach Wilson could be in range for us and would be a fantastic pick, but he’s also a guy who may need some time before being effective in the NFL and also played against weak competition. If I try to look at it from the FO’s perspective, Kyle Trask seems like the ideal fit. Played against top competition at Florida, prototypical size at 6’5” 240 lbs with the ability to stand in he pocket and make great throws with pressure in his face. He also plays in a pro style offense, diagnoses defenses well and is well liked by his teammates. The biggest knock on him is that he’s not sexy, he doesn’t make big plays with his feet, he doesn’t have a massive arm but can make all thee throws.
Seeing his skillset as a player, Elway’s ideal prototypical size, relative polishedness, and likelihood of being available at our pick, I think we will be hearing a lot of Kyle Trask to Denver talk as the draft approaches.

MY BOYS! Football lost another great today in former player, offensive innovator, NFL head coach for the New York Giants and Mase’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach of Alabama, along with various stops as an offensive coordinator and positional coach. Perkins imprint is all over NFL offenses to this day. May he RIP. I know that the Perkins Era wasn’t the greatest in Buccaneers’ history, but do you have a favorite Perkins memory to share, Mase? . . . As far as the Broncos, please tell me that the Broncos will not bring in Mitch Trubisky as a hedge/competition for Drew Lock this offseason. I think that would be the final straw for me with respect to John Elway remaining Denver’s GM. Have a wonderful Wednesday. DNVRMY SALUTE!
Mr.Undrafted
I know we have the triplets at Wr, but you guys have already talked about trading or letting courtland go. What about Tim Patrick? He has been having a steady year and must likely won’t cost a ton to resign? What contract would you give him?
Aristo Pratt
Hey dudes! Since we are having a hard time figuring out what position is the most needed in the draft, it makes me feel like our roster is pretty solid. The biggest question still has to be QB. With this roster how would you feel if Elway did one last huge thing at QB and traded the majority of our draft capitol, made an offer the Jets couldn’t refuse, to move up to pick 1? Could our roster handle not having major picks for the next two years? Is this the way?
World of Suck
Yesterday I commented that Lock has been top 10 in the NFL in his past two starts in terms of QBR and EPA per play. You guys responded with “yeah, but he’s bottom 5 in passer rating, so the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.” That may be true to some degree, but QBR and EPA per play are much, much more advanced in their formulation than box score stats. When passer rating and QBR disagree, QBR is usually the more reliable number, because passer rating doesn’t account for situations. It doesn’t know how to reward a quarterback properly for completing a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 1. It doesn’t know that Drew Lock’s second interception came on 4th and 5 with 33 seconds on the clock from his own 35 yard line, meaning an interception was functionally the same as an incompletion. QBR and EPA per play account for that type of thing. They weigh the important moments against the less important moments to give a fair game grade.
Here’s my point: Passer rating is not a reliable metric for grading a game. As the sample size grows to a season’s worth of starts, it typically evens out to show similar results as the advanced metrics. Well, Drew is going to end the season ranking very badly in passer rating, EPA per play, and QBR. By all accounts, he has had a bad season and the four 4 remaining games will not be enough to salvage it. Since that’s pretty much established, we need to see if Drew can take steps forward that are not a false positive. For that to be the case, I need to see Drew grade highly in 2 of the final 4 games and avoid the terrible grades altogether. If he can do that in the next four, we we will have finished the season with a 6 game stretch that is more encouraging than his 5 games in 2019, where he only graded as a top 15 quarterback once.
SoundGuy
What’s the logic in bringing in Darnold as a hedge against Lock? It seems like you’d be better off drafting an unknown commodity, rather than a bringing in a known failure. Also a drafted QB would be cost controlled, as opposed to Lock or Darnold figuring it out next year. When was the last Garett Bolles like ascension at quarterback? (Josh Allen doesn’t count because he took the Bills to the playoffs last year.)
