How would you feel if Paton said to Fangio “I am going to keep you on as HC but will be hiring someone who’s job is time management during games and I will be picking the next OC”
Side note: do any teams have someone solely dedicated to time management?

Been listening for a while, finally subscribed. I went to the Giants game in 2017, we lost and haven’t been good since but going to the Cheifs game this season to break the curse. My question is, after you are willing to trade PS2 and Javontee for Russ. Would you have traded Von Miller in 2012 for Peyton Manning, if that’s what it would have took? Hypothetically.

It definitely will be a loss losing his defensive mind, but I’m really leaning towards Denver needing to move on from Vic. You guys would have better insight into this, but some of his answers after games feel like he sees the defense as his team and the offense as someone else’s fault. That’s kind of a tough position for a head coach to take and I can’t imagine goes over well with the offense.
Am I misreading things or does Vic still have a tendency to act more as a defensive coordinator than a head coach?

Sorry for the double post but thought Mase would appreciate this. if you haven’t seen it before, freakonomics has a really interesting discussion of how statistically the most successful penalty kick in soccer is actually right up the middle, but it’s rarely attempted partially because you look foolish if it fails. I’ve definitely noticed some thinking like that in the NFL and get the impression Mase would agree.

Hey guys! I’ve been listening for multiple years now since the BSN days and my fiancé surprised me with a subscription for our anniversary! This is my first time commenting and wanted to say how much I appreciate you all and this community. My question is not super relevant to this week, but wanted to know how you guys would feel if the Broncos ever managed to get Derek Carr? I know he’s not elite but he seems like a great leader and since PFM left that’s something we’ve been severely lacking. Anyways love you guys and I’m down here representing the DNVR and Broncos community in St. Petersburg FL. Go Broncos!

With how well Vic has this defense playing, I think I would feel good about keeping him as long as Shurmur and Mcmahon are outta here. How do you feel about next season if they went out and got the top OC candidate next year to pair with either a top free agent QB or a rookie? Who are your choices?
Mile High Till I Die
Hey guys I heard Benjamin Allbright say that the Dolphins almost traded for Deshaun Watson before the deadline and that they would still be interested in pursuing him in the off-season. If the Dolphins end up with Watson, would it be worth it to trade for Tua given the way the Dolphins have been playing lately? (Obviously only if Russ and Rodgers aren’t available) I’m not sure if Tua is “the guy” but I don’t think he’s had a fair shake since he got to Miami. If we did trade for him, how much draft capital would it cost? Also, if you could pick, would you rather have Tua, Cousins or Baker? (All things considered including salary and trade costs)
Mile High Till I Die
Sorry for a second comment but I just wanted to say Prayers Up for Teddy. We’ve all been really hard on him this season but he’s a great dude and he deserves the utmost support for his health and safety.
Gentlemen, greetings from the UK.
What chance George and Vic can have the kind of conversation where George says, “Vic, we’re going to bring in a new head coach but we would love for you to stay with the Broncos as defensive coordinator.”
Does Vic’s professional pride allow him to take a very public demotion but which should, in all likelihood, work out for the best for him and for the team? If he ends up leaving the Broncos, a DC job is the likely next outcome for him anyway, so why not continue the excellent work here? Tough call.
Wishing you and your families and all of the wider DNVR family a happy and healthy Christmas.

If we were to fire Vic what are the chances he goes to someone in the division as a Defensive coordinator?
As it stands, Pat Shurmur seems to be the most likely chopping block candidate from the coaching staff. Do you guys have any preferences for his replacement? Any particular scheme?
Matt Nagy has been floated around and it would make sense as he’s worked with Vic and is a branch off the Andy Reid coaching tree like Shurmur so there could be some schematic continuity. Shanahan coordinators are also seemingly still in-vogue and I’d heard Ben Allbright mention Mike McDaniel as a potential OC candidate next year but I’m wary of any Shanahan assistant who hasn’t been in charge of playcalling. If Zimmer is on the outs in Minnesota maybe Klint Kubiak becomes available?
Who would be your pick and who do you think George and Vic’s pick would be?
NDak_Logan
Well here we are again. Back at .500 I feel we will probably beat up the raiders this week and get pumped up for the Chargers game and they will lose that game. I would like to thank Pat Shurmur for Gifting me a ton of money this year by live betting the broncos to punt on their first drive every game. Sorry about the rant. I do not want this to happen, but what will drew Lock have to give the coaching staff hope in him starting next season.
Windy City Bronco
That’s a genius bet, LOL!

What Windy City said lol!

I was initially defending Fangio because he’s put together yet another elite defense. In the end though, this was his script for the season. Double down on defense, bring in a league average quarterback, and go get into the playoffs.
The problem is that the formula Elway and Fangio committed to no longer works in the NFL. The rules are stacked too far in favor of quarterback play. Our 2015 super bowl was an outlier and it’s easy to forget that the reanimated corpse of Peyton Manning was still an elite quarterback.
Fire them all. Move on.

Hey guys,
I asked Zac and Mase (RK was not on the pod) last week if we lose to the Bengals then is it time to fold the season and lose out. They said not yet as 10-7 would of course still be possible. I’d like to ask the same question again now. Nothing we saw last night inspires any confidence that we can win three games, so the choice now is simple:
1. Finish 9-8 at best, worsen draft position and maybe keep Vic in a job.
2. Finish 7-10, maybe squeeze into a top 10 pick, clear all coaches out.
Give me option 2 all day long please! Surely you guys are now onboard for this?
Cheers

It’s going to sound like I’m just repeating everyone else but….oh well! I understand you guys wanting to see success, we all want that, but I’m going to hold your own words against you. Anytime you discuss the roster a very intelligent line comes out about which players on the roster can we see involved in the next super bowl run, now ask that about the coaches. Does anyone see Fangio, Shurmur, or McMuffin as super bowl coach? Even with a new Badass OC we still have Fangio losing due to death by seconds, he can’t manage a game and in the post-season everything has to go right to win.
We all want to see the team win but we also want to win from now on, and that means moving on from Fangio which requires a terrible record so Paton has no reason to retain Fangio. He’s not a long term answer, we need our win-loss record to help make it happen.
Apologies for the long one but despite a solid defense we need to win in the future and that requires suffering now.
Much love
Danimal
Cullin' for Mullens
Nick Mullens is back. I am back.
I’d like to share the story of my brief encounter with DT. Back in 2018, my family took a trip to the US, and we got tickets to Broncos vs Chiefs at Mile High. My mom had written to Broncos PR and told them that we were coming from Australia for the game. Initially, I was extremely embarrassed that she did this, but a week or so later, Seth Medvin responded and hooked us up with pre-game field passes! I was absolutely stoked (thanks Mom!)
Fast forwarding to the game, during player warm ups, DT came over to us and took the time to say hello.
I was shocked at the time that Demaryius went out of his way to do that, but after hearing all of the stories and memories of him these past weeks, I’m not surprised. That’s who DT was.
I still remember that moment fondly.
