Gents,
The nearly-nude player weigh-ins at any pre-draft event is yet another latent way that the NFL attempts to keep their strangle hold on the commodification of players and their bodies. It’s actually rather disturbing. I know it’s easy to write these types of things off as tradition or whatever explanation they would smarmily Supply us when questioned about it, but the reality is that what people do and say matters and has great and lasting impact.
It might be easy to think these players would all be comfortable in the confines of an open gym in their underwear In front of myriad on-lookers but that might very well not be the case for every guy. We don’t need to look to far back in history to find the genesis of this type of behavior wherein human bodies were bought and sold. I’m not trying to equate the two of course, but rather would like the powers at be to Step back and think, for one minute, about the reason they do this and the potential historical connotations that this type of spectacle inculcates.
How about the NFL just provides each guy with a shirt and some pants the accounta for the weight of the clothing and subtracts. It’s that simple.
The NFL, the landlord of my favorite sport, is sometimes so stuck in the quagmire of yesteryear that I wonder how long it might be before every nuance of the zeitgeist passes it by and the game is left on life support wondering why people who care about other people stopped watching with the zeal and joy they once had for this complex and beautiful game.

Mase, I think you should take a look at punter Michael Turk, son of former nfl punter Max Turk, from Arizona State. He didn’t win the Ray Guy award, obviously, but he improved a lot this past year and even booted a 75 yarder.

Looking at my board, all the guys i want will be gone UNLESS Herbert and/or Love rise. Otherwise we are left with someone like Fulton or Leviska. I think or best hope is Ruggs, Becton, or Kinlaw falling to us. After that, i don’t really see anyone worth the pick. In that scenario, I’d trade down and hope someone sticks around for a late 1 early 2. I’m thinking KJ Hamler, Tyler Biadisz, or an OT. If you had to guess today, who is the first man the broncos draft in 2020 and when do we get him?
Bronco_in_SD
For the record, my guess is Ruggs at 15

Hey guys. Long-time subscriber. Second-time commenter (first comment was last offseason before Mase joined DNVR).
I’ve followed the Broncos my entire life and often read Mase’s work growing up over here in Greenville, North Carolina. That passion for sports got me into sportswriting myself and I’m lucky enough to cover my alma mater (East Carolina) now daily for 247Sports, where I run my own site.
Anyways, Mase, I’ve enjoyed your discussions about Carolina BBQ, USF football, and The American Athletic Conference in general on the pod. This is slightly off-topic, but just wanted your opinion as someone who knows college football well. What’s your take on the AAC as a conference long-term? It has made a push to be part of the ‘Power 6’ in recent years and – in my opinion – has clearly separated itself from the rest of the ‘Group of 5,’ but do you think The American as a whole gets the recognition it deserves nationally as a growing football league?

Is anyone else a little nervous about this offseason. With so many holes to fill and possibilities of resignings and free agent signings, its giving me anxiety. You would think with the draft capital and cap we have that it will be easy to get what we need, but then again 31 other teams are trying to fill needs with the same free agents. How likely do you guys feel that we will hit with both free agents and draft picks?
Secondly, Mase I know you are against going through kicker purgatory, but I’d like to go through hypotheticals about future moves that could save some cap. Since you already brought up the special teams talk on Tuesday, I’d like for you guys to talk about Blankenship. Kicker from Georgia. I first noticed him in the semi-finals against the Baker-lead Sooners in 2018. My first thought was that this dude looks like hot rod with those glasses and every field goal he kicked was money, especially past 50. How would you feel about a 5 rounder on him to create competition with McManus?

In a world where Chris Jones gets signed (which I’m a huge proponent for) for 22 mil per year Along with Derrick Wolfe at 6.45 mil (on a discount), Justin Simmons at 14 mil, and James Bradberry at 7mil Per i would like to see offense as a POE in the draft. I recently indulged in a draft simulator mock draft and here’s what my draft would look like:
Round 1: Viska
Round 2: Prince Tega Wangoho
Round 3: Tyler Biadasz
Round 3: Cameron Dantzler OR Leki Fotu
Round 3: Devin Duvernay
Round 4: Akeem Davis Gaither
Round 5: AJ Dillon
Round 6: Antonio Gandy-Golden (LU)
Round 7: Punter/Back-upQ/DL
I think Dillon would compliment Phil well and is a full on power downhill runner and not a tweaner master of none like Royce. Living in this world, I realized we may not be as far as we think BroncoCountry, I mean one more kick butt offseason to stack on this one and last year may just put us over the top. I mean even with this tentative offense proposed above I see little to no glaring holes heading into the season

Loved just loved listening to world “soccer” comments in this podcast. Mase and Dre please make a stand against those Bachelor comments and talk about “soccer” more often
PS. Who decided that it would be a good idea to name a game that is played mainly with the hands and with an ovoid ball “football”?
Never made much sense to me
Much love
Nathaniel Thiccett?
The NFL Memes page on facebook posted a photo that read “The future of the League” and pictured were Dak Prescott, Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Drew Lock, in some apparent attempt to poke fun at them. In the comments people were up in arms to defend Lock, like way too many people for it to just be Denver fans, and no one was defending anybody else. I also caught up with an old friend this weekend who’s an Eagles fan and he started hyping up Drew before I could. Good to see him getting respect from around the league.
An article on CBS Sports predicts Bridgewater to NE, Brady to LAC, Rivers to TB, Winston to LV, and Carr to WAS. What do yall think is the likelyhood of this? The same article also predicts Shurmur will bring Keenum back to the Broncos as a backup ? please God, no!

Mike Sullivan not being renewed. That is concerning heading into this free agency without his expertise to balance the books, so to speak, with the salary cap. Who, if anyone, is responsible for handling that role now? Is there anyone out there that makes sense in bringing in to help?

How’s the food down in ‘bama boys?

Please don’t talk about Soccer; living in the UK, it’s all I hear about.
Calling it Soccer over here, for any other UK Broncos Fans, reeeeally winds them up. A big recommend on my part, it’s hilarious.
Interestingly the term Football was given to any sport played on foot and not on horseback. Football’s original name was Association Football, which was quickly abbreviated to Soccer, so if any Soccer Fans call it Football and claim Soccer is an American term for Association Football, well, they are just wrong. It’s been called Soccer for longer than just Football.
The Big T
Happy for any Rugby or Cricket talk though (proper sports) ?
The Big T
Totally agree. It’s weird to have these naked dudes on parade. Feels very odd.

Haha sorry about my question there big T

Mase, it’s good to hear you talk about Antonio Gibson! He’s one of my favorites this year, and to me- is in the same mold as Laviska and Lynn Bowden as an offensive chess piece. He was second in the nation with yards after catch/per reception this past season, so definitely potential to be a dynamic presence out the backfield.
The only thing that’s concerning me about him is that his hand size is well below the threshold, you would like. Has there been any ball security or drop issues with him- here or in college?
Also, I saw that the Broncos have shown some interest in Quartney Davis? Any thoughts on him as a prospect?

New subscriber here, and as RK would say, “You got me.” I’m a 19 year old college kid who hasn’t been able to afford the subscription cost. I have enough to pay for a year long subscription and I can’t wait for my shirt. I’ve wanted to join the community for a while now and I’m happy I finally could.
Thanks Mase for introducing me to this awesome community, it’s been awesome to find a group of Broncos die hards to engage with.
So question for you both down in LA (Lower Alabama) what would you rather see the Broncos do in the draft and free agency?
At 15: take Henry Ruggs III
At 46: take Prince or Biadiasz
At 77: take Jason Strowbridge
Sign Chris Jones to 4 year $68 million contract
And sign James Bradberry 4 years $42 million
OR
At 15: take Kinlaw
At 46: take Jalen Reagor
At 77: take Lloyd Cushenberry
Sign Trent Williams 3 year $36 million
Sign Logan Ryan for 3 years $45 million
Which of these give the Broncos the best chance to compete next year and for the foreseeable future?
Thanks guys! Keep up the good work!
OoO Benny Lava
Gooduck getting Reagor at 46! Love these two hypotheticals though, either way we’re getting some studs

Dearly Rebuttal,
Lineman most CERTAINLY can participate in flag football! 2 or 3 down lineman on both sides of the ball can rush the passer. And, if they’re feelin’ funky, teams can line them up as receivers or backs and integrate them into their aerial assault — move them chess pieces around, ja feel?! Think aBOOT it!
Thoughtfully,

Dre and mase! What’s up boys, loving your chemistry. Mase may need to join the draft pod every once in awhile. My question for you two is about soccer since there’s been a fair bit of talk about the sport recently . I always thought it’d be cool if you guys covered a soccer team. The natural choice obviously would be to cover the Rapids, however, with the EPL being a far superior league (in terms of skill of players, league design, etc.) would be preferential. What EPL team would you as the DNVR beat writers want to cover. Assume money is no object here. I would love to hear from some UK DNVR supporters too. If it was my choice, it would be Wolverhampton. I had a soccer coach that played for the wolves back in the 80s and I always liked their jerseys and logo.
