Hello from The Big Peach,
First, I’d like you fellas to know how helpful these (near) daily podcasts are to alleviating my commute of 75 minutes. Traffic is horrendous and MARTA has been grossly underfunded having been the collective shrug of the city for fifteen or so years now. Hearing folks’ friendly (yet pointed) chatter goes a long way in keeping me from succumbing to the Peachtree blues. Thank you!
Part deux, given the perceived tumult around the Broncos’ ownership, I’m curious as to what each of you would like to see happen once stability is established and a new sovereign is crowned. What things would you like to see change or stay the same? What philosophies employed or revitalized? And, do you think these things can be achieved by any of the most likely candidates: Brittany, Beth, or some bored billionaire? Is there someone, anyone in the world (with the capacity), who you would like to see own the team regardless of bloodlines?
Part deux part deux! I’ve been showing my buddy underappreciated western films lately and we got to one that made me think of Mase! Sam Peckinpah’s ‘Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia’. While watching it, I chuckled a few times imagining Mase as El Jefe demanding to be brought “the arm of Joe Burrow”. There would maybe need to be some *slight* plot and tone alterations to get through the censors but I think we might have a surprise blockbuster in the making.
Thanks again!

Gents,
Just to say, keep up the great work. Tomorrow I’m off to India with the wife for our honeymoon.
Can’t wait, but I’ll be missing watching the Vikings, Bills and Chargers games. However, I will make sure when I’m getting ready in the morning I’ll have your podcast on the go to keep up to speed.
Hopefully by the time I arrive back in blighty, the Lock era is well underway! Question – how good do you think Lock has to look to ensure Elway doesn’t draft Herbert in 2020?
Cheers guys.

I’m sure you guys have probably answered this already, but I have been out of the loop for a bit. Denver is sending a scout to the Kaepernick workout, so if the scout likes what they see should Denver get him? I think it would be amazing if we got him if he still looks as good as he used to. Thoughts?
TrueChampFan24
Guys,
Hearing RK on the pod just feels freaking right.
My two thoughts on Kap..
If you could sign him for the cheap, i say do it. Denver hasnt had a good QB in years, plugging Kap in with Lock, and a maybe another Rookie QB really gives Denver the chance to hit on one of them.
I am sure he still has the ability to be dynamic and explosive at times. Kap never makes me think of Lamar or Wilson, he makes me think of a stronger, faster Tyrod Taylor.
I understand we arent looking for another band aid, but at this point in the Denver free fall, its worth atleast kicking the tires so to speak.
Also, honestly happy all three of you did not just scoff and turn your noses at my “How to fix Denver ” comment.

Has anyone been out of the league for 3-years and came back and been good? Genuinely asking.
Also, while I’m in full support of athletes using their platform for whatever they want, it feels like Kaep is more focused on being an activist than an athlete. There’s nothing wrong with that. You could argue that it’s even more of a “noble cause” but is that who you want leading your team? Will he and the media hurricane that surrounds him be a detrimental distraction to a young locker room?
He’s 32 which isn’t necessarily old for a QB but Von and Chris Harris are both 30 and yet we consider them old guys.
I’m super curious to see what comes from his workout and interview and see how it all shakes out!
The Big T
Bring Tebow back! I bet he would still be at the same level, certainly couldn’t be any worse at passing, but he’s the spark, the fire, the leader that we need right now. I know it will never happen, but I can dream. Those rollercoaster games were just as fun to watch as the SB win. So who is the next Tebow? Probably never will be one, and we missed out big there

I love Tim Tebow! Id bring him in as just a pure energy and gadget guy.

You know we are a close community when Zac climaxes 2 months into the POD and no one bats an eye.
Welcome back RK.

Hey guys!
Mase, you nailed the username! Much appreciated 🙂
I saw some rumors that Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO) is potentially interested in buying an NFL team. Apparently he talked with the Redskins or something, but the rumors included the Seahawks and Broncos due to the recent passing of ownership.
While I think it’s extremely unlikely, how would you feel about a Bezos owned Broncos? How do you think things would be run differently?
And just for fun, who would be your favorite billionaire/celebrity owner if you could choose? I think an Elon Musk owned Broncos would definitely be entertaining.
Been loving the discussion lately! Keep up the great podding.

The next time you do a membership drive you should do the following – a live, late night pod, (basically a DNVR sleepover) that extends by 5/10 minutes with every subscriber or donation to your charity of choice. Just Imagine hour 6 with you gents deep in the cups – solid gold, I’m sure. You could even Get a few special guests along the way (maybe Steve and Tyler – not Steven Tyler, please!). Maybe take a live call or two (perhaps someone gets Mased). Just spit- balling here, but this way we could all have more DNVR fun and you gents would have to do far fewer promo announcements, which get rather monotonous, btw. Zac and RK, just ask Mase what a telethon is, learn the basic concept, then make it DNVR dope.
Any thoughts?

Hey boys, welcome back R.K. Brooks Robinson was amazing to watch Mase. I didn’t care for the Redskins but Baltimore was considered our home team in Virginia. Prediction Broncos in OT 22-19 with Von scoring a pick 6 on Cousins and McMoney with the game winner. GO BRONCOS

Hey guys, I am currently residing in central Texas but I did live in Evansville, Indiana for many years in my early twenties. While there I had several friends that went to that college and were proud Purple Aces. I’ll admit that I was slightly shocked to hear the name of that rather unimpressive city. It felt like a sign to come out of hiding.
Keep up the great work

Evansville stand up! My in-laws live there and I have have spent a good amount of time in EvansChill visiting them. My wife just so happens to have taken a few classes at UE (basically a campus legend)
FUN FACT Rami Malek (dude that played Freddie Mercury) is a University of Evansville alumni.
FUNNER FACT Evansville and it’s ritzy neighboring city, Newburgh were part of the inspiration for Pawnee and Eagleton, the location of the show “Parks and Rec”

A Herbert/Lock QB battle would be lit, especially with Hard knocks coming to Denver! I would still be pulling for the under dog, BA! Maybe the fear of being on Hard Knocks is John Elway’s hidden motivation to win now ?
In all seriousness, what are the odds of HBO picking Denver for Hard knocks in 2020? What teams will be eligible that might be more entertaining than a John Elway/Vic Fangio led Broncos team?

Alright, tell me what you think. 2nd or 3rd rounder for big ben, take wisconsins center in the first, kick mcgovern to RG, add Castanzo in free agency for fairly cheap. Your line consists of Castanzo, Risner, Biadasz, McGovern, James with Big ben behind it all. You then can grab a CB or maybe that dynamic WR still in round 2 and still build depth and have the cap to resign Simmons. CHJ might be a stretch but who knows if big ben came in he might stick around for 2 years.
I see sunday as a trap game for the vikings. They will sleep on allen and that will be the downfall. Broncos 27 Vikings 21

Carried over from yesterday:
Howdy boys — here’s my glass half full on this week. This road game against a 7-3 Vikings team, who have won 5 of their last 6, can’t come at a better time. If Brandon can go into that situation and pull off a W, actually leading the team to victory, then our whole perspective on this season will change. If he pulled out a win against a crappy, or even “meh” team, that would be different, but a non-flukey win this week will be huge.
If instead he goes out and lays an egg (as everyone but Bumpy Buffalo, Brandon Allen and myself expects), then hey! Look who’s practicing! It’s a win win this week for Bronco country, no matter how you slice it.
Ps — when my kids were 5 years old, they were barely sentient beings. Way to parent, Bumpy!

The Kaep workout thing has the feel of a game of chicken, with both sides staring each other down. The NFL has created a next to impossible situation for him to find a real suitor by scheduling this thing on a Saturday and announcing it just a few days ahead of time. Kaep likely has nothing to gain from this aside from looking like the bigger person if he shows up and works out. He’s been blackballed, everyone in the league knows it and he knows it too. He has a zero percent chance to ever play another snap in the league and because of this the working out aspect to this story isn’t even news.
OhMaHa
On a separate note; the 2019 Free Agent class continues to be a massive bust and will serve as a dead weight anchor holding this team back financially for the foreseeable future. 32 snaps from James is bad but how about zero snaps and only a few practices from Bryce? The fact he couldn’t even practice 2 days in a row has to mean he’s IR bound when it comes time to activate Lock, no? As Mase has pointed out, this money should have been earmarked for Chris/Justin extensions which then would have also allowed the team to leave Flacco’s contract alone, making him dead in the water this offseason. Instead, they head into 2020 with these 3 busts as 3 of their largest cap hits and more questions at their respective positions than answers. Simply put, this fan base should get super excited for a post 2021 lockout when the team can make a clean break with Elway and move on. As many have said before; if it wasn’t for Elway signing PFM he would go down in history as a terrible NFL GM.

Hey guys, I have to say I’d be really excited to see Jameis in orange and blue next season. However, I don’t think the Bucs will let him go (sorry Mase). They have a cool plan going on down there. They’ve put together a strong run D with an offense that can score points in a hurry. Their defense prevents opponents from slowing the game down and forces them into a shoot out. They trust their explosive offense even though Jameis turns the ball over regularly. With league’s current quarterback landscape, that seems like fantastic approach.
My concern is the Chiefs will get smart enough to follow this blue print with their roster as well. Teams have had success against the Chiefs this year when they run the ball and win the time of possession. I fear for the whole league if the Chiefs find a way to force every team into a shootout.
This is getting long, I know. My questions is, do the Broncos even have an ideal game script?
BroncoGator
Hey guys.
Finally took the leap and subscribed… using the code Mase. So this is my first comment and I want to keep it relatively short (but it may not be)
It has pained me how long the Broncos have taken to let Lock see the practice field but I am finally glad their hands were forced. I had real hope with Flacco (I know, shame on me), but he let me down.
I have been really concerned with how the Broncos will approach the upcoming draft, they seem to really have no plan for anything. But something you said on the pod (or maybe it was a comment) seemed to be the most likely outcome and it made my heart happy.
I would love for the Broncos to stick with Lock next year (assuming he starts more than two games and show some flashes) and draft a tackle with the first pick and trade back into the first round to build around the qb. I can’t see why Elway wouldn’t want to follow this plan.
Is there any better scenario?
Thank you for all the info you guys give, so grateful to have found this podcast.

Yeah I’m going to need you guys to go ahead and not mention Ed Orgeron on this podcast ever again…

I’ve got a Mase question. I’m only 24, so I was barely a teenager by the end of the Cutler era. I watched the games, but obviously, I wasn’t very knowledgeable. Can you tell the Cutler story from a Broncos perspective?
From what I understand, it seems like Cutler was progressing really well in his first few years in a Broncos uniform. When we traded him, we got 2 first rounders, a third and Kyle Orton, so he was well respected league-wide. But of course, McDaniels pissed him off and shipped him to Chicago and it seems like he was never the same once McDaniels crossed him. How do you think Cutler’s career might have gone differently if he stayed in Denver? Maybe this means that Shanahan was never fired after the 2008 season? Maybe it means Bowlen hired Spagnuolo instead of McDaniels in that offseason. Curious to hear what you have to say!

For some reason my full comment didn’t post. This is a repost from yesterday’s pod that didn’t make it.
Seeing as how Mase is the resident nerd pop culture guy here, let’s play Marvel and do some “What If…?’s”
WHAT IF Drew Lock has already been tapped as “the guy” and the handling of him is to avoid anyone getting any tape or anything along those lines on him because they feel they can compete with him next season?
WHAT IF everything being done is to enhance their 1st draft pick in an attempt to move down and acquire more draft capital?
WHAT IF when Fangio says “theres no plan for Drew” that is meant as nothing special for him because he isn’t seen as someone that they need a plan for?
I don’t think there is a grand master conspiracy here, but rather just separate talking points absolutely no one is hitting on because we as a fan base have PTSD after the VJ era and are conditioned to defeat to “the sky is falling”
BroncoBornBroncoBred
Mase, I think you might be a burro-holic.
Let’s say you had to put $1,000 on who the next QB for the broncos is who are you putting it on out of these:
-350 Drew Lock
-150 Brandon Allen
+200 Andy Dalton (no real reason just have a feeling this is an Elway move)
+250 Drew Brees
+300 Justin Herbert
+450 Jameis Winston
+500 Joe Burrow
+800 Jalen Hurts
+1500 Joe Flacco
+2500 Tom Brady
+3000 Marcus Mariota
Also RK I have been meaning to tell you this, but Luka>Jokic, go look at the stats.

Whattup guys thanks for getting us all through the bye week with your usual awesome content. I just wanted to comment on the job Elway has done since he stepped into the FO and see what you think. He is getting more and more hate from the fan base, and I think some people need to be careful what they wish for.
As far as the talent being drained from the team and the drafts being horrible, I think it would be interesting to go through all 31 teams’ drafts over the past 8 years and see how many hits and misses they all had. I think the results would show what the Broncos aren’t this team that has whiffed over and over again on draft picks more than other teams in the league. Remember, the draft is an all out crap shoot. You see high round choices getting cut or traded for peanuts all over the league every year. If anything, Elway’s biggest misses since 2014 have been in Free Agency. A lot of reaching and hoping for players to perform or stay healthy at a level that they have yet to achieve.
Throughout the league, talent is fairly close for the majority of teams. The key to being successful is the QB and the coach. For Elway, he obviously hit a home run landing PFM. Then I agree with his stance on Brock’s worth. So we lost Brock and he moved up in round 1 to take a kid at #26 that numerous experts were saying could sneak into the top 15 on draft night. Can’t fault Elway here. Maybe the Broncos didn’t give PL a chance to succeed but was that more Elway or Kubiak year 1? Problem is misses on a first round QB usually sets your team back a few years and that is what we are hopefully finishing up now.
As far as coaches. He made a great hire in Fox. He made a great fire with Fox. He made a great hire with Kubiak. He made an unbelievable crap decision with VJ. Jury is still out on Fangio but to me he is trending towards a keeper. Overall not bad on the coaching front for Elway even with VJ.
Just wanted to get my thoughts out there and see what you guys thought, but in my opinion Elway knows damn well what he is doing and has done nothing close to warrant getting fired.
Golden Boy
No! No! No more retread qbs, not TB12, not Big Ben, not drew brees or anyone else. Get the top draftee and get him on a rookie deal. We have way to many holes to plug them and pay one of those qbs. We need to pay to keep our defense intact, desperately need another wideout, our special teams are awful, we need depth to make them better, and can use linebacker depth. The offensive line needs at least a left tackle and a guard or center if we move McGovern. BTW I think letting Paradis go was a good move. Providing Another reason I am worried that Lock isn’t ever going to be more than a backup, they know their players and I think the staff Have seen it in Lock. Elway did a pretty good job in the draft last year and especially with un drafted free agents. The regular FAs we have been unlucky with injuries, I guess. There may be something to those oft-injured, continue to get injured. I like Joe burrow and , get one of them. My heart wants to believe we keep flying with Brandon Allen against the Vikes, but my head tells me we come back to earth and give the vikes at least 17 points related to turnovers and the game gets out of hand early. Minnesota 38 Denver 13.

Hi guys. Commenting from Hawaii here where we have a large Samoan population. Just wanted to give you a pronunciation guide for Tua’s last name. In Samoan, the “g” in a word is actually pronounced as an “ng” sound. So his last name is pronounced TaNGovailoa. Hope this helps.
Aloha,

Hi guys. Living in rural KY I grew up a UK fan. Evansville may have just added their purple names to the list of HATED teams for me with Duke and Laettner. Hearing you guys mention it was seriously a kick in the space sprockets. Congrats to McCarty for his win. I live roighly about an hour away from Evansville. I’ve passed through but thats about it. Please dear god get some Offensive Line that don’t have an addiction to hugs. Tin hat moment though. My father-in-law is trying to convince me Elway is trying to devalue the Broncos with his poor decisions so he can get them to a price he can afford to get a group together and purchase the team. I could use some help arguing him back down. Thank for the damn good pod.

What’s up it’s Joe H from Iowa but it’s the Joe H near Des Moines. (If you saw it on Twitter)
Just would like to ask if you guys think drew locks passes in practice? They look like they got some aspirin behind them like the NFL logo is being tatted on the receivers hands. Also, how’s his deep ball if you’ve seen it? I guess he’s just got to get it I’m the general vicinity of Courtland Sutton as we saw with Brandon Allen last week. Also this may sound stupid, but wouldn’t it be a “Broncos Move” to win out until like week 16 when we start playing bad teams and lose to the Raiders and Lions? Idk man I’ve been let down numerous times. Mucho Love to you guys,
Joe H

RK the Ravens ran you RPPO ( Lamar in the middle, RG3 on the left and Mark Ingram on the right ) all three are former Heisman winners. Did you see the play? Just wanted to get your opinion on it and see what you would have changed.
Keep up the good work.
