That was painful. I know logically (though not in my heart) that a L is better than a W at this point, all things considered. But that doesn’t make it all that much easier to swallow.
You can’t score 13 points and expect to win a game in today’s NFL — and that’s about what this offense seems capable of producing week in and week out. That the Broncos are even competitive is an incredible tribute to Vic and his defense.
Which leads to what we’ve all been saying (well, all except a few people who can’t forget #7 the player): Elway has destroyed this team. Just think about Flaccid Flacco. He’s a statue with a cannon attached. That’s well and good if you have a world-class o-line. But you’re putting him behind a line that couldn’t block water if it fell out of a boat. It’s just a dumb move. And the worst part is, by all indications, Elway is too stubborn to admit he’s wrong and try to figure out what’s next.
So, maybe it’s time for folks in the media to start—loudly and publicly—putting this in terms that someone with Elway’s set of priorities and world-view can understand: What Elway is doing now is destroying his legacy. This generation of Broncos fans will never know him as the QB who won two Super Bowls and led The Drive. They’ll know him as the GM who ruined their team. SO STEP DOWN. NOW. BEFORE IT GETS WORSE.
I don’t mean this literally, but some of you history buffs (Mase? The Count?) may get the reference, which I think is appropriate at this point: Elway delenda est.

Guys,
I am lost for words. I can’t believe we lost this game against a good colts team. I’ve been saying this since the beginning of the season, Rich Scangerllo is one of the biggest reasons why we are losing!! He is why we lost this game, which we should’ve won!!! The play calling is crap, just horrendous!!! From the lack of intensity in the play calling & not using your best players like Phillip Lindsay…he is the main reason why we are losing. There is no reason why I our offense should be this bad. Rich Scangerllo is 100% to blame. If Joe Flacco can come out and admit this during a live interview you know this team has been feeling like this for awhile..I really hope we get rid people like Scangerllo & Bolles this off-season, these are people who are holding this team back.
Lastly, I don’t know if you saw Von’s interview but that should prove how much of a leader he is. He was also pretty upset about this being CHJ’s possible last game together. If he’s not traded, does that mean there’s a chance he stays?
Thanks guys for everything & sorry for the long comment
kirksmith44
Joe has a problem with the play calling? Yeah so does everyone else. But maybe Joe you could look in the mirror. You suck. You’re over the hill, and well over it. You hold onto the ball longer than anyone I’ve ever watched. Have you not been paying attention to how poor your offensive line is? Get the ball out. Your demeanor on the field sucks too. This is the most fire you’ve shown all season and it was in a post game presser. Thanks for your one year of service. Enjoy some backup job next year if anyone is willing to give you a deal. You suck Joe.
That being said, you suck too Scags.
LONESTAR BRONCO
I’m reminded of a quote from a past great Bronco, when DT was traded to the Texans on the same week they played the Texans, he was asked about a questionable call to run the ball Instead of trying to shorten a 51 yard field goal (McManus missed to lose) he said “that’s what they do over there, I ain’t part of that no more, we like to win over here”
Same conservative hold what you got attitude same losing nonsense. I’m not saying go full madden and never punt but put that god for saken game away when your up.

I was going to obliterate my television set every time Scangs ran a single back set with #30 but I used my better judgement and held out until our 3rd down play that could have sealed the game ended in a graveyard of foreseeable mistakes.
This is some of the worst play calling I can remember and I’m 700 plus years old. My dead grandmother could call more exciting and effective plays than this. Why are we not scheming tin get #30 the ball in space?
Do you think …
A) john made a deal with Beelzebub to win SB 50 That doomed him thereafter?
B) Someone at Broncos HQ really pissed off the football gods?
C) Vic’s kidney stone is really calling the plays ?
True story – I asked my precocious 17mo old tonight before bed if he like Watching the broncos today and he just replied in a sweet little voice, “Broken.”
That really sums it up, doesn’t it?
This shit is bananas !

I’ve officially reached the point of “I don’t give a fuck” with this season. I’ve got two TVs and today (for the first time this season) I put red zone with sound on the main TV and Denver muted on the other TV. I don’t even care what happens as long as Flacco is the QB. I honestly hope we lose every game that he starts to improve draft position. Until Lock plays, I’m entirely indifferent about this season. I’m no longer emotionally tied to the 2019 Broncos football games. Today should have get like a “crushing loss” but I don’t even care. First time in my life as a Broncos can where I feel that way. It sucks. Sorry for the long comment but SHEESH this blows.
Rob
Hey guys. I’ll be in town for the Browns game. Is the DNVR group tailgating with some damn good beer? If so, where is the tailgate, and when will you guys be there?

I feel like a clown thinking our offense was gonna be at least DECENT coming into the season. The defense always plays their hearts’ out just to be handed that L because the offense failing to back up the defense with point support. It’s like a pitcher goes 8 innings of 1 run ball while your offense fails to score after many. opportunities, going 0-9 when there are runners in scoring position.
I do believe in this coaching staff, it may take a while for it to settle, but I feel like we can win football games with them in the future. Also so the people who are saying “fire the coaches”, look like clowns.
My question:
Let’s say we are picking 7th overall, would you trade Von with picks to the top 3 to draft Chase Young? Dude looks like he’s gonna be a beast.

THEUNFGVN3
Seriously what the heck is going on we are so stuck in 90s. Am I the only one who thinks they should fire John Elway. Let me paint you a pic. Peyton Manning takes over joe Ellis spot and Gary kubiak takes over for John elway I know I’m dreaming but imagine the franchise we could have if they built this team
Iceman
Hey boys. Joe’s words are so meaningless. Way too little, way too late. Where were his words the 1st. 7 games? Those were bench worthy comments! Second quarter grade. They went 2-2, a solid ” C “. An F & a C= a solid overall ” D “. A ” D “= a bad football club. If they do not start Drew in week 11, just leave him on IR!!! He needs a chance to replicate what Tebow was able to do. GO ZOOMIES
Mr. Blorange
Aawweeee Shit! Pardon my French, but I can’t stop celebrating this loss. This game was way too close for comfort and it made me sweat worse than old stinky French cheese that’s been left out too long. And but of course Monsieur Flacco shall point the finger elsewhere. We have a saying in Paree, “sore losers are like a stinky French cheese. It was stinky long before the mice climbed on top and started eating at it.”
On a more serious note, MAYBE NOW WE’LL GET TO SEE DREW LOCK… FINALLY…!? And maybe I can go back to rooting for the Blorange Boys to win again. This season has, by far, been the most strenuous on my Bronco allegiance. I haven’t felt this conflicted since when I was a youth in boarding school and we learned about the the “great” Napoleon Bonaparte. I can’t help but be reminded of him every time I think of John Elway and Rich Scangarello and the stinky cheese man… The stinky cheese man, pfft. Oh how I wish to blow cigarette smoke in his face and push elderberries up his nose. Did you enjoy the farewell strip sack, stinky cheese man? I know, I did.
Sorry, this took a dark turn. So in these dark times, let us look to the orange moon and reflect. For it is the blue stars that shoot in our direction when the night shrouds over all. And may we all enjoy a fine cheese as we watch them come home.
As always, thanks for the fun times, hard work, and great podcast.

Phew that was a close one! Almost won a game, and keeping the dream alive of a run for the playoffs. First off on the chiropractor fixing up sleepy spicy joe it’s because Kiko Alonso ripped his head off a few years ago. Secondly von hasn’t had that fire in his belly after being in a relationship in my eyes JMO but seeing him getting choked up over Chris was not easy to see. 3 for Mr.B… 4 is I work for the railroad and I know what a derailment looks like and this is off the rails for sure and john is the engineer controlling this train, and in my experience the longer it’s off the rails the more damage it does and the longer it takes to fix. I hope they stop and reset get this thing rolling again nice and slow because I’m afraid if it goes to long then this could become a bigger mess than it already is. Love you guys, you’re the only thing I have to look forward to in Sunday’s anymore ?

We’ve reached the stage where I’m looking for moral victories but I liked this quote from Jacoby Brissett;
‘“That was probably the best defense I think we’ve faced this year. They were just so disciplined in staying with their playing, they were coached well. Fangio did a good job, staying the course of his plan and then T.Y. did T.Y. things’
Not to mention Quenton Nelson was getting bullied by our D-line. So I’m pretty impressed with the defense, especially when you consider that they’re down to a bunch of backups and guys they picked up from the street.
Would’ve been nice to get this win, and upset a team that most people assumed would run all over us, but I get the bigger picture so I’m not too mad about it.
NJBRONCO85
Hello gents.. I’ve decided to take a positive spin on the year so far, as long as the road leads to Drew @ some point. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the Emmanuel Sanders situation. I’ve heard recently from a few different sources that he handled his situation poorly oh, that he didn’t want to be a Bronco, he let his frustrations get the best of him and should have done better. Considering that he was phased out of the offense after the Raiders game, can you really blame him for being upset? To say that he was underutilized is an understatement. We all know that he wants to win and he can be a bit of a drama queen from time to time but I feel like it was well warranted given how the team used him. I also thought it was pretty funny to hear Von say what he said about him given that he hasn’t really played well at all. Just curious your thoughts. Thanks for the great content as always and the numerous Laugh to Keep Us sane throughout this season!

Hi Gents,
New Sub here (code ZAC supporter), wanted to comment and follow on the topic of taking out the hot RB when they’ve strung together a couple effective plays. Not only is this scheme/staff taking out the backs at the wrong time, they’re putting them into plays that don’t take advantage of their strengths (ie. inside draws with Lindsay and outside tosses with Royce). Additionally, the staff/scheme seems to fall into the same pattern of taking Phil out and then putting Royce in power formation with both TE’s in to block pretty much yelling to the defense “HEY, WERE RUNNING THE BALL WITH ROYCE” and then call and inside zone run right into the 8+ man box, its infuriating to watch time and time again.
Can only hope after another close loss, the team realizes the current plan is detrimental to long term success and Elway/Fangio finally decide to activate Drew so this year isn’t a total waste.

A question I would love to ask Elway is, does he still think Lock is the future? If the answer is no, then I would follow it up with, then you are expecting to pick a QB the first rnd then? If the answer is anything but no, the follow up question would have to be why isn’t he even practicing then?
So frustrating seeing what is being done with Lock.
bumpybuffalo
Guys,
Play Allen, claim that the chiropractor hurt Flacco and give an excuse to see a more mobile QB. I have been pounding this rock for weeks and nothings changed. Everyone says that he will be worse (MASE) but how much worse can it get? I am sorry but a 12 year vet like Flacco seriously steps up avoids the pressure only to take a strip sack. He had tons of room, start moving and get a few yards and out of bounds save 2 seconds for a hail mary. Or throw it away but you have to know if its not there get to a new down. Everyone is mad at the play calling and I agree at times it was incredibly frustrating but your also scheming with out Emmanual for the first time and trying to not take 8 sacks again. I think more aggressiveness is much needed but it wasn’t a terrible plan considering they were just trying not to get sacked and spread the ball around. Activate Drew and stick Allen in there for the time being.
Also, is Von just getting to old? That missed sack is not like him but neither is 3 sacks through 8 games. Is he just done?
Thanks guys!
chilangobronco
Hey guys,
Flacco`s comments might be controversial, but felt so bad coming from him, standing in the podium like he is Brady or Rodgers, calling the coaching staff on not being agressive. Well here is a thought, How about if you convert more than 10% of 3rd downs Joe? maybe we can talk of being more agresive, how about you can show that you can drive the offense to score more than 13 points per game? maybe we can get agresive then!
Remember last week when Fangio got agressive the first few drives against Kansas? Well Joe if you don`t remember watch the film.
I can`t be upset with Fangio trying to take down more seconds on that 3rd and five, He knew what a crappy offense we have, and tried to win with his D. And you all saw that nearly happened! If Von made that play the game was a W.
In the end I think it was better we lost.
Can`t wait for Drewcember
Much love
P.S. Did you found the O -line so much better with James playing? Any news on the injury?
World of Suck
The Denver Broncos are 2-14 in their last 16 games. Yikes.
Ya know what’s funny? A bunch of Broncos Country knows there was a brutally missed holding call on Indy’s LT on that almost sack by Von that ended up going like 40 yards downfield to Hilton. That’s three games this season that the Broncos have lost by 2 on a game-winning drive, aided by questionable officiating. It’s the second one where the officiating *clearly* dropped the ball. What’s funny to me is that Broncos fans are barely upset with the refs. We’re beyond refs at this point. This team is just bad. Like very bad.
World of Suck
My bad, I meant 2-10 in our last 12. Big difference there, huh?

Hey boys, I’ve been holding onto this comment for awhile because it doesn’t really pertain to football or the broncos, but since we are all but eliminated from playoff contention I figured now would be a good time to ask.
I recently read that the Minnesota vikings franchise purchased and are running a professional Call of Duty team. Professional gaming has been around for a long time, but to my knowledge the Call of Duty(COD) league will be the first actual league where teams have home cities and travel to face other teams in their division, in other words it will have a structure similar to actual professional sports in America. I think it’s pretty cool the vikings are taking a swing at this new market, their presence legitimizes the whole league in my opinion. I was wondering what yer thoughts on this were? Would you be intrigued by a professional gaming circuit? It’d be pretty cool if the broncos got a team.
Ps if they do, I call dibs on being the DNVR beat writer for that team.
Sorry for the long comment but hey at least we aren’t talking about the broncos antiquated offense and their non chalant attitudes lol. Much love,
Pps I like Mike Purcell alot.

Some non broncos stuff to take care of first.
RK what a great come back win on the road eh? Fight on ✌
Mase, LEAVE FEVER PITCH ALONE! ?
Now on to our Broncos. This is no longer a world of suck. It’s a universe of blow, but there are some bright spots here. Cortland Sutton is a damn man. Phil is SOOO close to breaking one of these big runs. Risner is a tough tough man and Jano is still my Man crush Monday….okay that last one may have been tmi but watching how he plays the game the right way is so much fun.
Last but not least, happy birthday Steve Atwater!
Orange and Blue all over
If you had to start someone other than Flacco this week – who would be the most interesting and/or potentially beneficial to see play?
Allen, Kap, or Rypien?
Hope Elway knows 2-6 is the time to #EndTheLockout and activate the man!

Hey guys i havnt comented in a while, a late late welcome to the family to mase.
I have been an elway supporter for all the time he has been a gm, but now i cant defend what he is doing with lock. I understand if they dont want to play him because he is not ready or behind this terrible o line but why not bring him back to practice and start getting him ready!!!
I think they should draft O-line with their first 2 or 3 picks, what made the 97 and 98 teams great was the fantastic o-line, with this line we have today Lock would get killed, also it helps the rb, i think the best thing to do for a young qb is have a good running game and time in the pocket.
Oh well, i still have this family to keep me sane.
Saludos from México
PoperDink
I’m beginning to think that Lock is a cardboard cutout. Is he ever going to play? Or next year do the broncos trade for Eli Manning and we do this all over again? I think I might microwave my head if that happens.
nash_eq
Hi guys great stuff thank you for your effort in these tuff times. My question:
Coming back to the article from Ryan regarding Joe Burrow and drafting great college QBs but putting them in systems that don‘t play to their strength, I think you could run an old school system if you have a semi-mobile QB, a great O-line and a mismatch on the outside. Currently, Denver only has one of those, i.e. Sutton. Do you see this differently and where do you take your optimism from when looking at the future of Denver should the rebuild be embraced and we either have our future QB in Lock (if he plays out) or draft another one in next years draft?
Thanks for your answer and have a great one.
Nash aka Alex
Bronco_in_SD
I loved Ryan’s article about modernizing the Broncos’ offense. I think you are dead on.
Apparently, Joe is out this week. Does this set the stage for Drew to play after the bye? This is also so frustrating. If Drew had been practicing LIKE HE COULD HAVE BEEN, he would be prepared to play this week. Now, we have to play Allen.
People are trying to decide who to blame. Both of these examples point to one person. Elway. Is he on the hot seat or are you already ready to fire him?
Hayduke_Abides
Just saw the news Flacco is out. Was it Steve Atwater that said I never knew anybody who used to have back problems?
Here is to the Allen era. Hopefully Lock will be practicing tomorrow.
Steeburt92
Just heard about the “injury” to Flacco, calling out the coaches must have really strained his neck something fierce. All joking aside, I do hope he gets well soon. In the long run how is this NOT the exact scenario you dream of to jump start a rebuild? Your team is 2-6 and is down your star vet QB. Play Allen this week and put Lock in on the 4th quarter to warm him up against a sad Browns team, tweak his play and ride on into Locksgiving with him starting. That gives you 7 games to evaluate if you need to draft a QB, OL, or WR with your top pick.
OnionTownLynx
So…. i guess since we need to just start coubting down the minutes til Lock is available let’s talk about the fact that the Broncos have become extremely secretive in recent years… maybe it’s just me but i don’t know. I just don’t like how there’s some mad man in his cave named John Elway who wants all the power in the building for himself and seems to be unable to accept the massive variety of ways there are to win in this league. I just wabt to see Lock play. Not Brandon Allen.
Steve_Atwater_HOFer
He is no Steve Atwater or Kennoy Kennedy, but I am really excited that a Razorback will finally start for the ole Blue and Orange this Sunday. I know that the future is Drew Lock, but I think everyone is writing Allen off too quickly. Playing for Arkansas, Allen has a lot of experience behind terrible offensive lines…maybe he will surprise Broncos Country…if not, it’s on to Drew Lock after the Bye!
Mase, what is the #1 reason Steve Atwater hasn’t already been inducted into the Hall of Fame? Or do you think it’s a combination of factors working against him?
Count Bridgeula
Hey all, there is a major sale on aluminum (they don’t make tin foil anymore and haven’t in a long time) hats. It’s at the end of the “semi-fake neck injury aisle”and just past the orange and blue light special on “third-down to close a game out plays.” Smuggle some change from under your Davenport cushions and you’ll be stocking up in no time.
Any listeners out there have an o.g. Davenport? I’m looking for one to put next to my ice- box so I can just lounge and drink Breck Brews till either my fangs fall out or the The Broncos right the john boat.

So many thoughts on today’s news:
1) Flacco era is over. Even shorter than the Keenum era, and worse too.
2) Given the current situation, I’m glad we get to take a look at Allen at QB. I have low expectations, by why not?
3) Reserved for Pat
4) We shouldn’t be in this situation. Lock should have never been put on IR. He should be starting Sunday. It’s the perfect game for his first start.
5) All things considered, I do agree with Rypien being the backup. I don’t want to risk Lock getting thrown to the wolves without practice reps. But we’re in this situation due to past mismanagement.
6) I would like to see Bryce Callahan put on the IR. Play time affects the compensatory pick formula, so between Bryce not playing and Ju’wuan James’s absences, we might see an increased return on our compensatory picks.
7) Reserved for John
8) Bryce going to IR also opens up room for Lock to be activated and start practicing, while being the third string guy for the Cleveland game.
9) I don’t know who is to blame for the Ju’Wuan James and Bryce Callahan situations. Elway signed em, but he’s no doctor either. Someone really goofed up there.
10) Drew *must* start in Minnesota following the bye.
That’s all, folks.
D-Dubs
There’s a big crowd of Broncos Country that’s obsessed with coddling Drew Lock, and I get it. But in the wake of all of this controversy, isn’t this almost perfect for him?
He faced constant controversy at Mizzou and came out on top of it almost always. From a mental makeup stand point, Drew is the guy everyone in Dove Valley should be turning to, right?
Like always, appreciate the coverage guys!

Hi guys. there are so many things to say here but 3 things;
1) as I said before this is what you get when you hire a defensive minded coach
2) Vic was never a Super Bowl winner or Super Bowl MVP!!
3) as much as I have loved the Broncos, my belief is that they will continue to lose until they get their quarterback and they quit playing to not lose… your thoughts please please please !!!
