This is from Thursdays pod:
Sometimes, I really don’t understand the logic and reasoning on this pod, specifically from Zac. All year you talk about “continuity, continuity, continuity” and once the draft time rolls around, you’re ready to pull the plug on Lock and start over. Alex Smith is NOT the answer to winning this season and he’s entirely washed up at this point.
How will the Broncos ever find out if a young QB pans out if you continue to quit on him, even after seeing the incredible flashes towards the end of the year?
I also wholeheartedly disagree with the comment that Lock would lose out to Fields or any other rookie. None of those QBs have taken a single snap in the NFL whereas Lock has proven that he can win. The worst case scenario is that Lock is terrible this year, we get a high draft pick next year and do what Mase said: trade for a high caliber QB or draft one and begin again.
Continuity.

A letter from The Count to Bumpy Buffalo and the DNVRians :
Dear Comrades,
Despite my penchant and adoration for obscure Bronco’s minutiae, my decades spent in fully engaged in all aspects of the wine business as well as other extra circular activities, leaves my ability to quickly recall those memories a little tarnished. The power trio would smite me instantly in the Red Zone challenge and what little credibility I have left would be forever sullied. I appreciate the suggestion, but must wait silently in the wings until there is a round-table segment or a member’s draft-game wherein I can use my cunning, not speed, to challenge our iconic commanders. In the mean time, I will be tending to my tantalizing takes and awaiting a proper venue for my villainy.

Fellas,
The Broncos on paper appear to be a QB away from competing. How true is that? They may have 22 starters, but are the other 31 guys on the active roster good enough to win the division even with a top QB?
How say you?
Andrew Mason
A top QB, and the rest of the roster would be good enough to be 12-5 or 13-4. The huge holes — coverage linebacker, No. 2 running back, young center — can be covered up. (Obviously, QB is the one hole you generally can’t scheme your way past.) Sometimes you’ll win the division with that mark; sometimes you won’t. The first goal is to perennially be in a place where where winning the division — even with Mahomes leading a team — is not some pie-in-the-sky dream that relies on the Chiefs being hit with a tsunami of injuries, but a realistic aspiration every year.
My most gracious podcast hosts,
Some of you may remember my son, Gavin, getting shout outs on this very pod about his golfing prowess. He has branched out into the world of NFL Flag Football, and today I must announce that he was recently drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders. Devastating. This Sunday (April 11th) marks his first game against the Atlanta Falcons. I must also confess that I am now the assistant coach. To avoid full and total betrayal, I have ordered the DNVR gray flag t-shirt to where at practices and on gamedays. We may be rooting for the 10-12 year old Raiders to win through May, but we still bleed orange and blue.
Thank you for understanding and GO BRONCOS!!!

Sorry for your loss, but it’s never too late to start over and have another kid ?

I was playing around with the PFF draft simulator. It may not be that realistic but it is mighty comforting that the Broncos always wind up with a quarterback.
Stay at nine and I get either Mac Jones or Trey Lance. Trade up with Atlanta and I get to choose either Trey Lance or Mac Jones.
If that’s how the draft goes, sign me up!

It’s not tailgating, without some smoked Beef Ribs… Tailgating begins with meat. Mase should have won…
Big T, we all have opinions on the QB class, but your dismissal of Lance and Wilson as they aren’t in the power conferences and a lack of stats and only opinion, is going to make people sceptical. You have to watch full games and not highlights to really know the player.
Ok, to today’s Broncos question. I see Atlanta (4) and Detroit (7) most likely to trade down, which would your choose to do? Pay more but make sure you get your guy by moving to 4 or sweat it out but save draft capital by only moving up to 7.
To move to #4, probably costs #40 and maybe a day 3 pick
To move to #7, probably costs a round 3 this year or a round 2 next year.
What would you guys do?
I’d go #4 to give the option of Fields/Lance as our day 2 and 3 picks are for depth not starters.

So has juwan james retired yet? I’m gonna ask this question a lot because I think he’s more of a mythical figure or an idea, rather than a player on the Bronco roster.
But, anyways….. I don’t really follow other teams news and rumors like I used to. The injection of politics into organizations like the mlb, nba and nfl are slowly killing my enthusiasm for those entities and will likely have that effect into the next generation of my family as erosion often does.
Here’s my MULTIquestion. are there any NFL whispers of teams like the patriots or other QB thirsty teams jumping into the top 8 to get ahead of the Broncos? Is PANIC a real possibility in Piton’s first draft? And IF SO, mase keeps saying Piton’s a builder through the draft….do you actually think he’s gonna dig himself a hole in his first draft trying to move down 5 spots?

The more I think about it, the more I feel like we have to draft our QB this year. If we think about its kinda similar to the situation the Jets found themselves in, in that they decided that instead of staying the course with Sam Darnold, they decided that it was more prudent for them to ‘reset financially’ by starting over at QB and not having to worry about that looming QB contract. I believe firmly that we would clearly benefit MASSIVELY for taking the same approach. So, if weve evaluated the QBs and believe that either Lance or Fields is a better prospect then Lock then we simply have to take the chance right now. If we do, then the looming QB contract becomes a non issue for the time being, but most of all, we actually get concentrate on re-signing the guys from the awesome draft classes we all believe we’ve had over the last few years. Sutton, Chubb, Fant, Risner, a possible Von extension, Alexander Johnson, keep Fuller around? All of these become eminently possible with a QB on a rookie contract and we actually get see a sick home grown team grow together.
One last thing that bothers me, is this idea that trading back in the first round this year and picking up a first for next year, in order to use on Sam Howell or (insert QB here), is that, that is Massively presumptuous and honestly highly unrealistic. I mean even with two first round picks, the likelihood is that they’d both be mid to late round one picks. Not exactly easy to get up super high with two mid round picks. Also, for a start, Philly is likely to have 3 round ones next year, and thats not even counting the teams that will actually earn the 1, 2, or 3rd pick etc. The likes of Houston, Chicago, Vegas, Washington, Carolina, Indy, Atlanta or NYG would ALL be in the market for a QB next year if they pick ahead of us.
I say that all of that to say this. Dont overthink this. If Lance or Fields are there at 4, move heaven and earth to pick one of them. Because next year likely wont have this talent, and the time is perfect NOW for us to get our guy to keep this team together and become dominant.
Cheers guys.

The Three Ring Circus had me fantasizing about the next time I get to hit a tailgate on game day! Well done fellas I could smell the food cooking in the parking lot listening to you guys draft. CANNOT WAIT!!
If they don’t go QB, who is the player you want them to draft at this moment?
larrydennjr
Welp ! Three rings was awesome …I never know who u guys are gonna have on next !!! I’m keeping my ?? for Steve atwater , allbright and my favorite Sports Analyst right now AQIB TALIB !!!! … Nfl network needs to make a move and sign AQIB ! …he is the perfect replacement for Deion Sanders just perfect !
Anywho instead of studying players and fits this weekend I’ve been studying George Patton and his track record and I keep coming back to the montes of
DRAFT & DEVELOP ….
GUYS ….my gut tells me Paton and the broncos are 1000% giving drew another shot to see if he develops …. I also think we’re not high on first round inside Linebacker …. If fangio believes in strnad then they wanna develop him …..
However I do believe in Patons BPA …… So with that said I think if fields falls to 9 we take him or pitts we take em ……other then those 2 guys ? At 9 I think we’re trading down …… I just don’t see us trading up or staying at 9 for anyone else ….
What do u all think ?

Boys! It’s good to be back in the comments section, since I finally caught up with the pods. I’d been lagging a few days behind since before christmas, and right when I caught up in late February my fiancée and I welcomed the newest member of Broncos Country into the world, so I fell behind again.
But now! A Broncos question: Do we really need to spend a first round pick next year to trade up with the Falcons at 4?
According to the value chart at Pro Football Reference numbers 9 and 40 should be enough to cover the value of the Falcons’ top pick.
I know you pay extra when moving up for a quarterback, and I’m all for giving up an extra first round pick if that’s what the Falcons want. But do they really expect to be able to get that from the Broncos? I’m thinking maybe 9, 40 and a 2nd-rounder next year would be sufficient.
Does this open the possibility that maybe the Falcons want to trade further down than 9 if they don’t think they can get a first round pick from the Broncos? Just a thought.

Sorry but gotta double up the comment and just give Mase props on a masterful draft. Scouting was on point and stayed true to his board. Getting two cornerstone building blocks in rounds one and two that could carry a plate all by themselves was brilliant. And not reaching too early for beans and getting them with the last pick proved to be the steal of the draft. Not sure if bean’s red flags and on the toilet issues had anything to do with the fall, but Mase trusts his locker room to keep them in check. Well done sir.
Andrew Mason
I just waited to see how the board fell. Burger and pulled-pork sandwiches at 3 and 4 would be like seeing Justin Fields fall to 9.

A word of encouragement for George Paton: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”- 1 Timothy 4:12 NIV
Don’t worry about it being your fist draft in charge, go do what it takes to wake this sleeping giant!
My question is this: I’ve seen how teams in vest in their players physical health, but in what ways do they address the mental health side? I’ve been in counseling for a little over a year now (woohoo!) and after seeing as experiencing the ways it’s helped me I can’t help but think that a smart organization would view investing in mental health as a way to get the most return on investment with their players.
Thanks guys,

Drew for QB
Do you guys think Peyton helping Lock will help him that much? I feel like it will help him make less mistakes especially the obvious ones but I don’t know if it’ll help with the bigger stuff aka footwork.
