Hey guys,
I havenât commented in awhile but thank the lord Broncos finally win!! Letâs keep the win streak alive and beat the Titans!! I wanted to ask a quick question about the whole Von trade rumors. I get that CHJ & Emmanuel are on the block, is there any validity to Von possibly being on there? Was this just created by Jason La confora or is there a possibility? I want Von to retire with the Broncos like Ray Lewis did with the Ravens & hopefully that happens. Especially since Bradley tore his ACL you would think they would keep Von around at least until his contract is up & possibly an extension.
Sorry for the long question, thanks guys!!

Hey, guys! Loooooong-time subscriber/listener, first-time commenter (I only recently learned that this is where you leave questions for the show…*facepalm*). Love the podcast and love the decision to hire Mase, whose work I’ve followed for a long time. I live and work in the political world of Washington DC, and with as much as I deal with on any given day, I always look forward to having the show to listen to on my walk home from work. It’s the perfect escape.
My question stems from Mase’s tweet on Tuesday noting that Denver now has 6 players on IR, but only one (Chubb) is officially out for the remainder of the season. The rest of that list includes De’Vante Bausby, Jake Butt, Drew Lock, Tim Patrick, and Theo Riddick. As Mase noted, the team can reactivate no more than two of them to the 53-man roster after Week 8.
I think it’s almost a given (at least to me) that Lock HAS to be one of those two. But then who is the other one? Here’s how I’d look at them:
-Bausby: I don’t think any of us can make a call on Bausby until we know more about his health. The reports of his 30-minute paralysis after that hit in the LA game were terrifying. He’s obviously a major upgrade over Yiadom, and I’d love to have him around as a long-term guy. But if the team isn’t 100% sure he can make a full recovery this season, I think he should just get healthy and hopefully we can re-sign him next year. (Part of this also probably depends on Callahan’s health this season.)
-Butt: I’d really like to see him on the field and give him the chance to prove himself after his numerous injuries, but if Fant and Heuerman lock down the TE position, I don’t think we see Butt again this season.
-Patrick: Sutton and Sanders are balling out, but the depth behind them is a bit suspect. Hamilton hasn’t really impressed much so far this year, Winfree is still a rookie, and then the only others are Diontae Spencer and Fred Brown. Patrick feels like a solid candidate to return.
-Riddick: I think Riddick could be a major offensive weapon, and it feels like a total waste if we brought him in on a 1-year deal only for him to sit on IR. I suppose the question is whether he is part of the team’s longer-term planning or not, and also where the Broncos stand by Week 8. I could see this one going either way.
I’m sure some of this will depend on the health of the rest of the team — e.g. if Hamilton goes down, that may make the decision easier to reactivate Patrick. Anyway, curious to hear y’all’s thoughts. Sorry for the long-winded comment. Thanks again for providing such a great service to Broncos Country!

Not Broncos related, but league wide comment here: After watching some Monday night football, I looked at Mayfield’s season stats. He’s thrown 4 TDs and 8 picks, and he’s got a measly 56% completion percentage.
To put that into perspective, Paxton threw 4 TDs and 4 picks with a 62% completion percentage in his 4 NFL games.
Obviously, Mayfield isn’t done and has plenty of opportunity to bounce back and will probably do just that. But if he doesn’t, he would be a BIGGER bust than Paxton because the Browns spent four times more draft capital on him than the Broncos did on Lynch. Drafting a QB is always a gamble, so here’s to hoping Lock is the guy!
So Ryan, you’ve made it known that you believe in Mayfield. Are you coming down on that at all?
Rob
After watching the game against the 49ers, I’m not sure Mayfield’s stats tell the whole story. His offensive line is atrocious. Mayfield never had a chance in that game.
I feel bad for Browns fans. They had a promising season and off-season that led to some hope for this season. It would be soul crushing to go from that little sliver of hope to the same old Browns again.

Dear god my last comment was way longer than I thought when I pressed submit – sorry!
And gents… in bound to DIA from Down Under. The pilgrimage is well and truly happening. Looking forward to Mountains, hockey and of course – our Broncos.

Okay haven’t commented in awhile so i got a few points of contention. First if your head coach cant coach on the sidelines you dont have a head coach. Not saying vic is bad just saying that itd be ridiculous to put the most important coach in the box. So much conversation between the refs and head coach happens every game. If you put you vic in the box im gonna stomp on it. Gonna skip the rest for future pods some of these comments get pretty long
Nickgilbert93
Sup gents! Hello from Knoxville,TN! My roommate @Njyhalo got me into your content and I wanted to say thank you for all you do. Welcome to the team Mase!
We are holding it down in East TN. Go Broncos!
Iceman
Hey boys, Strawberry Sky night. Vic’s staff grade won’t change until after week 8, the 2nd. quarter of this season. This football club as a whole is still an ” F “, failing. John would not agree and I don’t care. There will be no LOCTOBER, it will be Nov. and/or Dec., maybe not @ all? đ GO BRONCOS/DREW/DNVR
Orange and Blue all over
Enjoying Broncos scored 54% MORE points than the Chiefs week! If this had been week 1 we would have had some fun week 1 over reactions! Timimg is everything.
Question: Has anything surprised you guys following the win? Something like – was Sanders not as happy after a win as he was after a 100 yard recieving game loss?
Cheers!

Just catching up on some old pods and wanted to give my takes on a few things:
1) I think Mase said that he was worried about the Broncos defense going up against Mahomes because Mahomes thrives on zone coverage? The same was true of Matt Eberflus. He was widely considered a ‘zone guy’ and switched it up and played mostly man against the Chiefs. The Colts were also down their All-Pro linebacker, and Malik Hooker- for my money, the most underrated safety in the NFL, outside of our own Justin Simmons ofc. So they were at a talent disadvantage for sure. I’d like to imagine Vic is flexible enough to do the same.
2) I realize how important he is for the offense, so I don’t want to trade him. But say John Lynch calls up John Elway and says they’ll offer a 5th rounder for Jano considering the Juszczyk injury, and Janovich playing in a more or less identical system. Are y’all making that trade right now, or is Jano off limits?
3) Mr B
4) About the Broncos avoiding Alabama players. Colin Cowherd (I know, I know) brought this up the other day. He said this is an opinion amongst several teams in the NFL, and not just the Broncos. Mase touched on it, but Cowherd said teams think that Bama players have reached their ceilings and have been coached by better college coaches than most get in the NFL
Also look at the team like Washington. They routinely draft and acquire Bama players, and they’re…..not a good team. Over the past few years they’ve acquired Haha Clinton Dix, Landon Collins, Reuben Foster, Jonathan Allen, Shaun Dion Hamilton, Ryan Anderson and DaRon Payne- and I’m probably missing some guys- and while some of those guys have played OK, they’re not difference makers.

I got super excited to join the Madden group, knowing my skills are far superior than anyone else’s. However, after talking with Cleavers83 I was overcome with grief when I discovered it was not being held on playstation đ BUT if anybody would like to start a franchise mode on playstation my PSN is: Fidel_94.
jk im really trash
On to the football comment, I will never call 45, AJ, because my girlfriend referred to him as a slithering slippery snake throughout the game and I nearly died laughing. She did have a point though the guy was everywhere! I hope he can build on it!
Last Fantasy Football. Courtland taught me a lesson this week, he is no longer a matchup player in fantasy. He needs to be in the starting lineup each week. Another thing – could vegas please put out odds on when Lock starts because the group of guys in my dynasty fantasy league all think he is trash and he wont start a game this year. They talk about how he was the fourth string QB in camp and I want to pull my hair out. I have tried to explain EVERY rookie was at the bottom of the roster during camp. I have also tried to explain how Drew was getting significantly better each week. And when I have been hit with the oh well he is still trash he wont start over Flacco, I have tried to come at them from the business angle. Referencing how the Broncos TRADED UP to get him and used a second round pick on him. It would be a bad business decision not to see what you have in him if youre going to be picking top.
Please Vegas put out odds so I can make this money, student loans are hard lol

After watching MPJ ball out for the Nuggets tonight, Iâm filled with optimism for our Colorado teams. Even though we are 1-4, I feel better about this team than at any point during the VJ era.
Watching players like Bausby, Purcell, AJ Johnson get a chance to play shows that this coaching staff isnât afraid to try something new and perhaps find a diamond in the rough. Other than Phil, I canât really remember VJ coaching a backup who came in and exceeded expectations.
No question today, but thanks for all the great coverage fellas! Letâs get that dub Sunday!
BRONCOS-SQUARED
I think I must have posted this comment too late yesterday. Gentlemen, I must say I was disappointed in ONE thing on Sunday while I watched Philâs touchdown. During the celebration, I noticed Phil was hoisted into the air like a young Simba. My t-shirt senses began to tingle but I was shortly let down when I noticed who hoisted him. I thought for sure it was Risner, but instead, it was McGovern. The shirt idea was of Risner holding Phil in the âDirty Dancingâ hold. Titled âDirty Daltonâ with the caption âNobody puts Phil in the backfield.â Alas, I was let down. I couldnât think of a better image to showcase the young offensive talent we have on this team, particularly of the homegrown variety. I wish I knew something about graphic design so I could draw these up, but instead, I deal with 12-year-olds on a daily basis.
Glad we got a win! Thanks for the consistently great coverage guys!

Are the Broncos better than the Steelers?
CBS power rankings have us at #25 and Steelers at #26.
Tennessee is #24…

Hey fam! I just have to say that the count is one of the best parts of my day. Most of us other comments stick pretty close to the DNVR comment Script as follows:
1. Apologize for a long post but then proceed With said long post as if we arenât all that apologetic, then begin to say something nice about RK, Zac, or newly acquired Mase while also gushing over the community.
2. Tell origin story
3. Mr. B
4. Overreact to a win or loss (which is natural for passionate fans like ourselves.)
5. Catch up on an old topic such as hot pockets, water, or what is/isnât a burrito.
6. Remind Zac that he has an adorable laugh and tell the haters to take a dirt nap.
7. John Elway
8. Reiterate how awesome this community is as it truly is a highlight of my day then remind the trio that they are daily a part of our lives and we will forever be grateful for the work they put in each and every day. We love the show and the community. Thanks guys!
Also, Mase, your impersonation of Olevoâs 22 Janos sounds like Christian Bale in Batman ????
Rob
Can we please pause the praise for Patricia’s planning against the Chiefs? The Lions and Colts had good games against the Chiefs, but if anyone deserves credit for figuring out how to shut down the Chiefs offense, it should be Bellichick who held them to zero points in the first half of the AFC Championship. And that Chiefs team was healthy.
Back to the Broncos. Is there a good place to receive injury updates on players? I saw an article pop up in my news feed about Devante Bausby and how he was paralyzed for thirty minutes. That article mentioned in passing that Bausby is on injured reserve, but that was the first update I’d seen on his status or his condition. I’m glad he’s OK. That was a scary hit.

Zac – what is something you learned or gleaned from your time as a scout for the browns that has helped you be a better analyst of players/football?
Mase – what kind of program do you have that allows you to search sortable stats like which QBs Von Miller has sacked, etc?
I have to dig for hours to find these things and my crypt doesnât need to be any deeper.
Love you guys

In these seasons of disaster I am oft left searching for a kernel of reassurance – I need look no further than Matthew Arnoldâs words – they help me realize that whether the broncos win or lose we are all part of this grander design –
âAh, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.â

I need the DNVR Community to help me out here, since we have talked straws and cereal soak time (soggy cereal is disgusting dont @ me) can we get a solid head count on the true age old question of does Pineapple belong on pizza? My answer is absolutely not.
Also a more football related question, where do you think the Broncos could’ve gone in 2006 had Shanahan not benched Plummer for Cutler?

Shoutout to Bucking Bronco for being a Broncos fan and Ducks fan! I live in Riverside CA and have season tickets to the Ducks!
Also, after driving 2 hours to get some strawberry sky a few weeks ago, I checked the breck brew locator and saw that thereâs now FIVE liquor stores within TEN MILES that have some breck brews!!! Strawberry sky, avalanche ale, vanilla porter, and breck raspberry.
LFG!!!!!!

Ok so I’m not in Knoxville, TN but I’m in Nashville…does that count?
It’s been an interesting week so far hearing all of the Titans fans talk about this game. The majority of them don’t seem to have much confidence that the Titans will be able to pull this one out on the road.
One thing that’s been interesting to hear through 5 weeks is how similar of a stance their fans have on the team compared to that of Broncos Country. Several of them have already written this season off and are planning for 2020. One thing I have to keep reminding them – consider yourself lucky to have two stud offensive tackles in Taylor Lewan & Jack Conklin.
Their response is always the same “it doesn’t matter when you don’t have a QB”.
Trust me, we feel our pain Titans fans.
Alaska_Preston
Alright Iâve got a city challenge for Mase: what are the Broncos connections to Anchorage, Alaska NOT including Schlereth and Kuper because those ones are too easy!
Also, whatâs the deal with Keenan Allen? Is he the most oblivious man in the world? He said the Broncos sucked after the Broncos beat them last season AND NOW THE MAN HAS THE AUDACITY TO SAY CHJ CANâT HOLD HIS JOCK?!? Thatâs not rivalry talk, thatâs just acting a damn fool.
Thanks for your time and God peed,
AK Preston

I really hope you missed the “S” in god speed lol

Mase,
On my comment from yesterday I know the Bills game is Eastern @ 11 vs Central @ 11 but I should clarify, in a different time zone the Vikes will be tougher in my opinion. The Bills have a defense but I think that our D will be in the groove by then and make this much like the Bills V Titans we just saw but with a DNVR win.
I had an experience recently that I am curious to know if anyone else has run into. I am a CO native and of course Broncos fan all my life. With the influx of non natives coming here there are passionate fans from other cities which is fine. I totally respect whoever you want to root for and I will have a debate but keep it light. I had my Broncos hat on and a guy wearing a Stafford jersey started in on me at the grocery store about how trash we are and that we should just quit all of football and that they will kill us in December. I had my daughters and was in no position to defend the Broncos honor (sadly) against this crazy person. Any one else run into hostile non Broncos fans or was this guy just nuts?
Thanks guys!

Just off the top of my head, here are 3 connections between Denver Broncos and the city of Vladivostok:
1) Perhaps the most famous person born in Vladivostok was the late actor Yul Brynner (born Yuliy Borisovich Bryner). Yul Brynner, though most famous for The King and I and the original Westworld, also had a bit role in the less-well-known 1972 movie âFuzzâ, starring Raquel Welch and Burt Reynolds. As we all know, Burt Reynolds played the role of Coach Nate Scarborough in Adam Sandlerâs 2005 remake of âThe Longest Yard.â Former Denver Bronco Bill Romanowski also appeared in that film as a prison guard.
2) Little-known war trivia: American forces saw action (and casualties) during the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia; in particular, the 31st Infantry Regiment (formed on the eve of World War I), were deployed to Vladivostok in 1918 to prevent Allied war material from being looted. It was their time in frigid Siberia that earned the 31st the nickname âThe Polar Bear Regiment,â a moniker that remains to this day. In 1941, a polar bear named Velox arrived at the Denver Zoo, and a decade later was named the 31st Infantry Regimentâs mascot. The Denver Zoo is located in Denver, as are the Denver Broncos.
3) For Mr. B.
4) Most obviously, the name Vladivostok is often shortened to just âVlad.â The most famous Vlad, of course, was Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian prince who was the inspiration for the character Dracula. Dracula was a vampire, as well all know. As we all also know, former Denver Bronco legend Tim Tebow appeared In an episode of Spikeâs Lip Sync Battle that aired on February 4, 2016. Tebow was victorious with performances of âTake Your Timeâ and âEye of the Tiger.â Who did he beat? Actress Nina Dobrev, famous for her role on the TV series âThe Vampire Diaries.â
