Hey guys!
On yesterdays pod you mentioned many people in the Broncos Organization don’t believe as much in Drew Lock. I think this hits hard on Drew Locks Confidence but also should fuel him to work hard this offseason. This makes me ask do you know anything about Lock’s offseason workouts, or plans for him to meet up with other Broncos to throw the ball around and build chemistry on the offensive side of the ball?
Thanks,
Logan

What’s up guys
So I have a couple of opinions and they might sound crazy but here we go…
I think Deshaun to Denver is a reach. There is nothing in the broncos history that says they are willing to cater to a player. They’re having a tough enough time on RESIGNING their pro bowl safety, so why would they give up everything and pay Deshaun? When’s the last time Denver has ever had a quarterback like Deshauns type? They always draft and sign the Tall Strong Armed pocket passers which may be the problem all along. Anyways, why would the broncos give up a defensive cornerstone, and every good pick available? That means there’s no fresh and young improvement and if you do get improvement you’re over paying for it in free agency. The defense is the only reason that the broncos won 5 games last year. You don’t win championships without a good D so giving up on that seems silly. By trading for Deshaun you are putting him in the same position that he was in Houston.
That leads me to my next opinion, I would rather have Alex smith as a hedge to Drew and keep all the draft picks. Saves money to resign players, guaranteed quarterback competition, and you can fill holes with the draft that you lose. Alex Smith was never really a repetitive mistake maker which would be perfect motivation to get Drew to not throw as many picks
Thanks boys
Hey Dudes! Hope you’re all well. If a trade for Deshaun Watson were to happen AFTER the draft, what is the likelihood that some of the top contenders would take themselves out of the sweepstakes by drafting a qb? I look at New York and Carolina who seem to be likely destinations and wonder if they were to use their top pick on a guy like Wilson, Lance, Lawrence, or Fields does that take them out of the running or would they include that recently drafted QB as part of the package?
Secondly, how big of an impact do you think scheme fit will have and how do you think Deshaun Watson would fit into this scheme? Could Pat Shurmur’s experience under Chip Kelly be a potential selling point for Watson? From a personnel standpoint I think we can stack up to any other realistic destination for him, but I wonder if our coaching staff leaves something to be desired.

Watson’s first name is Derrick (with two Rs), pod people. Apparently his true friends and closest pals call him that exclusively. I think if Broncos’ twitter would start referring to him that way, his chance of giving us the final rose might increase monumentally. Not even Woody Paige knows this. He won’t though because he blocked me on Twitter for saying that It sucked when ESPN carried the national Championship game because people without cable couldn’t watch it. He told me cable wasn’t that expensive and then blocked me. So if you all could get the message to him as well, things might move in our direction.

Two of the last three pods you guys have mentioned that bringing in a mentor for Drew Lock is not a priority for the Broncos, and in both pods the example was used the “Patrick Mahomes didn’t need a mentor to come in and be great!” – This threw me off a bit. Drew Lock is not, and never will be Patrick Mahomes. And guess what – neither will any other QB that starts for any team for the next decade, most likely. If Drew Lock needs a mentor to develop, that does not mean he can’t be a viable starting QB (See Aaron Rodgers, Big Ben, TOM BRADY who all sat behind a vet before coming in and becoming “the guy”). No, he’s never going to be Mahomes, but with some consistency and maybe a vet to learn from in the QB room can he be Daniel Jones or Case Keenum? Maybe a Matt Ryan type guy even? That’s not out of the question.
I understand that the way the league works, because he was a 2nd rounder everyone is just OK letting him walk after 17 games, but man is it gonna be a bummer if he goes somewhere and turns into the second coming of Brett Favre because a team gives him some support instead of running him through three offenses in 17 games and wondering why he threw some off-target balls and didn’t always look comfortable. It will always be crazy to me that if he was picked #32 overall, we’d be bringing in Fitzpatrick to mentor him, giving him full confidence and we’d all be focused on his potential rather than his INT rate after averaging a new OC every 6 games. But instead, we picked him 10 spots later, so it’s time to move on to Alex Smith or bring in Nick Foles to compete to be the starter.
My opinion? If we can get Deshaun Watson or Russel Wilson: go get them and never look back. Other than that, we should be thinking about how to make a top 50 draft pick at QB expand his understanding of the offense, get on the same page as the receivers and see what the kid can do with a roster that’s not so full of injuries and rookies next season.
PS – let us not forget that Peyton Manning set the record for INTs by a rookie in his first 16 games, along with going 3-13 in that span. Imagine if the Colts had said “Yeah, we need to go get a mid-tier vet to get us over the hump”. And yes, I know he set a record for TDs as well, but that doesn’t fit well within my narrative, so let’s not focus on that 😉

We definitely don’t want Lock to be anything like Danny Dimes. Gets tackled by the field with a wide open TD in front of his face. Oh and he fumbles more then tony Dorsett and franco harris combined.

Hey guys, havent commented in a while but i heard the call for the OGs so i had to make time today to say hello to the community.
Broncos question, if Bouye and Casey sign elseware, would the Broncos get a compensatory pick?
I am one of thoes Drew supporters, i still belive in the kid , i saw palpable improvement as he got more comfotable in the offence and i think this year he will take a step forward. I would love Watson but I don’t see a realistic path to getting him, so for now i am backing Drew.
I hope next year will be better for everyone in the community and i hope you guys get to cover your first Broncos winning season in the DNVR era. If we have had so much fun with the team losing i can’t wait to see what happens when the team is winning.
And for all of you that just listen to the podcast, SUBSCIBE NOW! I guarantee it’s worth it.

What up bros! I cant believe Mase and Zach weren’t seeing eye to eye with RK on the Alex Smith thing. He looked like a squating dog until his 7th season, where he finally threw for over 3k yards and 17 to 5 td/int ratio. This guy has barley been a serviceable starter his whole career. Until the 49ers sucked long enough to build a good team around him. And well, KC was pretty much KC when he got there. Check the #’s
(Minus the Pit game)
Lock in 17 Games 3953 yds
23 TDs and 18 picks……..
Smith the last 2 seasons
18 games 16 starts 3762 yds
16 TDs and 13 int. Gotta side with RK, if we sign this guy hes a back up forsure. He can’t take care of the ball any better then drew and hes pretty much a rook. Plus u tack on no continuity and the jeudy/hamler having the highest drop % in the league.
I think its obvious this team has a much higher ceiling with Drew. And u never know maybe Alex is the mentor that sparks it.
Worst case, trade down in this draft and get capitol for next year. If Lock looks like crap with 4 or 5 wins trade up and throw another dart. I am obviously a Lock for 1 more year guy, But do agree Alex would be a great back up option. Sorry guys Go get some Tacos and replenish after that Froto and Smeagol cage match!

As continuation to yesterday’s comments, maybe they shouldve franchise tagged Von twice and seeing he’s not worth 20m, drop him when we’re getting nowhere after the 2017 season. With the SB long gone the fans maybe wouldn’t be as upset. I’m no Von hater but after seeing JJ Watt getting 15 I feel Von will never accept what he’s actually worth, I wouldn’t really want to pay him more than 8-10m considering injuries and production so feels like cutting Von is the only smart thing to do.
About the quiz, I think you should consider a 4 step price ladder for red zone. 1/2 step in win over rk/zac, then getting one point on mase is step 3 and winning against mase give you the the grand prize. Mase’s impossible and taking points from him should be worth a prize imo.

Yea only problem is Von would have sat out there’s no way Von was going to play on the franchise tag so that’s a no

MY BOYS!
Hope you guys had a great Monday. Just a quick hypothetical for y’all today. Say the Broncos get DeShaun and the Raiders get Russ. This has to be the greatest division of all time, right? Or at least in the conversation? Anyways, thanks for everything!
Much love,
Sebastian

Hey gents,
I haven’t commented in at least a couple of months now. To be honest, since I’ve moved back to Thailand I’ve found myself consumed by numerous other things both personal and professional and I no longer have the time to be someone who listens and follows daily.
I still find the time to follow the content occasionally and the quality is as high as it ever was, so thank you for that and keep on doing what you do. Hope you guys are all well and maybe in the future I’ll be able to rejoin again on a daily basis.

Soo I’m 1000% with Rk ! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing from Zac and Mase ….dude if Alex Smith is the starter coming here ? If he beats drew in camp ??? Why are we giving Drew another shot it’s time to move on if he can’t beat out a shell of himself Alex Smith ???? ……there’s no need to bring Alex Smith in unless he’s preared to take the Kurt warner approach do whatever you can to help the team win whether it’s starting or helping drew that’s only reason I want him……
Which brings me to my question I think fields is worth it at 9 but only Zac agrees so ….if Trey Lance is there at 9 do you guys take him or would you rather give drew one last shot ??

As Mase clearly picked up on, the “Bridge Hedge QB” is way down the list for me. But Drew Lock supporters do need to understand, that he needs a challenge, to allow us to know for sure. I prefer a young QB, that has a shot to compete, not a retread. Now to sort my failed comment from last week.
What I meant to say, do you think from the limited amount of play you have seen, do you think that Muti and Calvin Anderson could grow into a starters role in 2022, when the outs contract wise for Glasgow and James are workable? Franklin??? No clue how I brought him into the post.
We all have have strong opinions on the QB’s we want to see. A bit of history. Dan Reeves and many in Broncos country got all caught up in Tommy Maddox and got the mindset that we needed one to replace Elway, as he couldn’t win the big game. It hurt me to think that some of Broncos Country didn’t want to go to the Super Bowl again after 0-4, for fear of going 0-5. So support Drew, dream of Watson, think of how to trade up or move down, but remember, if you don’t agree, all opinions are valid. I have my opinions, but I’ll be glad to be 100% wrong if one of yours gets up back to the Super Bowl.
Casper
Fellas,
We need to bring in a hedge. I know the guy is beloved, but last year was too inconsistent. Drafting one may not be the answer and veteran free agent signings are hit or miss. So who do you feel we should bring in for competition for Brandon McManus?

Greetings, good sirs!
Clearly, I’m about to come off as a huge #3 apologist. For that, my apologies. Also, I’ve missed a few pods here and there, so if I’ve missed something, let me know and I’ll go back and listen.
Unpopular opinion time.
We seem to spend a lot of time with “How much better QB X would be than Drew,” and there’s just a caveat of “obviously the best thing for the Broncos is for Drew to ball out” thrown in.
We don’t ever talk about *how* Drew could improve, and how the other players improving around him would be huge. Football is a team game, and it’s not always on #3. For instance, If Drew throws a spot on a timing pattern and Jeudy runs the wrong route, is Drew going to throw Jerry under the bus for the pick? No. He’s going to be the QB by taking the heat. I’ve seen Tim Jenkins point out where the young receivers failed Drew in scramble drill, and I can’t imagine that’s the only contributing factor.
Context is important to any discussion, and football is a team sport.
I know we’re all hungry – nay, starving – for good QB play. I’ve watched this team since long before Rich Goins ever thought about climbing up a billboard. The pangs of that hunger are excruciating.
I just worry that we’re 3-year loan at at a huge interest rate (picks) with a down payment financed by selling our favorite things at a garage sale (players) to go buy somebody else’s admittedly great microwave before checking if the meal in the slow-cooker is done.
Thoughts?
Thanks, always for the great you and all the rest of the DNVR staff do.
