On the latest edition of the DNVR Broncos Podcast, Andrew Mason and Andre Simone join you from The DNVR Bar to discuss the Broncos’ next-to-last practice of their 2021 training camp.
The fellas dive into Vic Fangio’s comments about being “pretty damn close” to a QB decision — but also having “more information coming.” They also talk about the significance of Fangio saying that the joint-practice work against the Vikings “is telling” in light of Minnesota resting its starters for the preseason game — and the possibility Seattle may sit its first-teamers this coming Saturday.
They also answer listener questions and much more.

How in the world is Teddy Bridgewater still winning on the QB scoreboard? It’s becoming clearer by the day that you guys are simply a bunch of Drew Lock haters. He’s the next John Elway, shoot, Elway couldn’t hold his cleats. It’s painfully clear that…I’m just trolling at this point. I haven’t commented in a while and thought I’d let you guys know I’m still listening and really enjoying the in-depth coverage you’re providing via the pod and the QB scoreboard. Y’all do a great job and I appreciate being able to keep up with training camp despite being here in Cowboy land. Y’all truly do your part to make sure Broncos country is nation-wide.
Thanks boys

Apparently Fangio saw enough separation in a practice that Zac scored 5 to 5. His logic is as quizzical as it gets. I’ll never understand Vic, it appears.

In Vic’s defense, his answer wasn’t just about today. And he pointed to the joint practices and first-team-vs.-first-team work, which has been accumulating over time. The thing that is most telling — and dispiriting — is that neither can put together two really good days in a row. On the golf scorecard, if each day is a hole, neither one of them has had consecutive birdies. Hope that changes.

What’s up fam! Been a bit since I have checked in on the pod. Hope all is well! Love the coverage as always! So I have been thinking about something since the intro to the pod has changed. I think it so has a King of the Hill vibes to it, which in turn I have already created king of DNVR’s hill. Cast is as follows; Hank to be played by Rk. Boomhauer played by Hank (give the kid a few shots of tequila and he talks just like him). ? Dale has to be played by Zac, and the much smarter version of Bill by Mase. Instead of the crappy Cowboys it would of course be our beloved Broncos. Breckinridge Brews in hand in replacement Alamo Beer. I so vote on this to become a thing! ?? See y’all at the bar! Go Broncos!

Hi guys,
I think with our first 2 games being away from Denver, it makes it easier for Vic to choose Teddy…..imagine playing the season opener at home and the crowd not behind Teddy! Chanting Drew Drew Drew, would be a bad look. Choosing Teddy and hopefully returning to Denver 2-0 might get everyone behind the QB. Could work the other way too, but i dont think Teddy fans are as biased, they just want success and would cheer Drew on, if he wins! Cheers

Keep up the awesome work fellas. If each NFL team had to use their namesake as a 12th man on the field (for example Lions would have a lion, Bucs would have a pirate, etc.), who would win the most games?

Or Titans depending on what type of Titans Tennessee are referring to. Maybe Jets cause you can’t tackle a Jet. The logic is failing for me, I need some rules!

Haven’t finished this pod yet as life has been crazy, but when I saw on Twitter that Fangio almost has enough info to name a starter I had to race over here. Just a couple practices ago, Fangio said it was even steven. What changed so significantly in the past couple practices? Or was Fangio just lying even though I know some (like Mase and probably myself) questioned how well he could lie and thought his “even steven” talk was sincere?
Also, I know after the game RK said he felt Drew had separated enough where he could seize the job but Teddy can’t by the Seahawks game, but at the time they were tied on the QB scoreboard or Teddy was actually leading a bit which would seem to indicate either or Teddy could separate and get the job. Based on that, RK must feel like the scoreboard isn’t very accurate or doesn’t track with what he’s seeing. What about you guys, do you think the QB competition scale/metric might not be as accurate as years past since it’s not really tracking with what Vic’s saying that he’s close to a decision? One guy probably should have started separating on the scoreboard by now, right?
Some People Call Me The Space Cowboy
Who gets pulled for a slow (1-3) start first, Drew or Vic?
Similar question, is the leash about even whether Teddy or Drew earns the starting job?

Hey fellas! So I don’t have a football related question for you today, but more so a food related question. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the Pueblo staple the slopper, but if you are would you ever consider making it an item at the bar? If you aren’t familiar with the slopper it is a cheeseburger and fries smothered in Pueblo green chile (blows hatch green chile from New Mexico and Colorado out of the water). When I was able to go to the bar for the Nuggets vs Suns game 1 of the series I was able to enjoy the delicious food at the bar, and got to meet RK and checkout the studio. In a drunken state I had a conversation with RK about Aaron Rodgers, and I’m a little embarrassed now looking back at it because I’m sure I could have made a better impression lol. To be fair though it was a tough game to watch sober. Anyway the bar’s food was truly phenomenal, and the only thing I could wish for would be an addition of the slopper! Pueblo isn’t too far and definitely has the worlds best chile! If you ever need a recipe for some Pueblo chile I can give you the hook up lol. Sorry for the long comments as of late. Thanks for the great content fellas, yah boi Wildcard!

My boys! To me it seems like Fangio is going to pick Bridgewater as the starter. With that being the safe play and gives him and his staff the most job security for next season. My question is does Bridgewater really represent job security? With Bridgewater, we won’t be bad but we also won’t be good enough to compete for a championship. Sure Fangio might keep his job but for how much longer? All he is doing is kicking the can down the road and would need to break in another new or rookie QB next offseason. Seems to me like Fangio should ride with Drew and either give himself firm ground to stand on, or look for D-coordinator job again next year. What say you?
It sounds like a reason that keeps being thrown around for some of Bridgewater’s INTs in practice is a “miscommunication” with the WRs. I get that it happens, but at some point, don’t these miscommunications fall on the QB? And yes, Drew has had some too, but I believe this is either Miscommunication INT 3 or 4 for Bridgewater. Unfortunately for the team, it doesn’t really matter HOW the INT happened, just that it happened. Felt like this was a point that has not been mentioned much. Seems like a decent amount of miscommunication between Bridgewater and WRs. Let me know what you guys think!

Hey guys, we know the broncos struggled a bit in joint practices against the Vikings pass rush. Out of the 17 games this year, who do you think have a better, worse or similar pass rush to the Vikings where the broncos O-line may struggle.
Thanks!
Samuelbissu
Hey Zac an Dre!, loving the live pod.
If Teddy suppose to be the safe qb but he and Drew have had approximately the same amount of ints, what is the point of going with him?, he isn’t safer and has the much lower sealing, to the decision is easy go with Drew, give the kid a chance to prove how hard he has worked this offseason.

Are miscommunication errors for Teddy sinking his ship? Seems like there have been multiple instances of miscommunication between Teddy and the receivers over the course of camp…has Lock had similar issues, or is it almost exclusively while Teddy is at the helm? Fangio’s strong change of stance yesterday, regarding the QB position, has me wondering if Teddy’s misfire might have this coaching staff ready to call it for Drew. What are your thoughts, guys? Thanks for the great show!

My boys!! New member here, just signed up a few days ago and already received the hoodie I ordered with the discount, veeeerrrry comfortable and thank you! I grew up in Colorado but have been living in California for the last 7 years and the podcast has helped satisfy the need for Bronco talk in an area where Broncos fans are few and far between.
My question today is, aside from QB, what positions will have the most losses/needs for the Broncos next offseason? Will it be Cornerback because Callahan and Fuller’s contracts expire next year? Will it be Safety because Kareem Jackson likely isn’t coming back? Or maybe WR? It’s been talked about a lot how this team has more depth and talent than it’s had in awhile and I wonder how much of that we’ll lose and have to rebuild next offseason to remain as good of a team.
Andrew Mason
Love it! Thanks for joining the fam!
On balance, you’d have to say CB, just because you’re losing two of the top 3 vets if Fuller/Callahan aren’t re-signed. Certainly PS2 and Darby should be a good 1-2, and they still have hopes for Bassey and Ojemudia, but that becomes a trouble spot.
The team believes either Caden Sterns or Jamar Johnson — the two Day 3 safeties from this year — can develop. It was interesting earlier this week to see them both get time working alongside Simmons when Kareem Jackson was out.
WR — I think the only way they wouldn’t bring back Sutton (unless he never comes close to what he was before) is if Aaron Rodgers becomes available, and then they turn and give the money/cap space they budgeted for Sutton to Davante Adams, potentially. And productive WRs are not in short supply league-wide.
Hidden need is ILB. Both Jewell and Johnson have expiring contracts. And if they lose two CBs to free agency, do they convert PS2 to a more traditional boundary CB role? They have high hopes for Justin Strnad and Baron Browning, but you can’t assume that every prospect hits (which is why I liked drafting two safeties this year, there’s a decent chance one becomes a solid contributor).
