Hey guys,
Giving the circumstances this comment might be irrelevant for the future, but it just dind´t make sense why they sarted Elijah Wilkinson when he got back from IR, it seemed to me that Datson played much better, do you have stats frome Drew Lock´s performance depending on who the starting RT was? Why do they had so much faith in him?

Much love

Is the Drew brees situation similar to what we are looking at with Deshaun?

Fellas,

Let’s assume the Broncos gave up 3 1’s, 3 2’s, and 3 3’s in the Watson trade. I went and looked at the best 3 consecutive drafts the Vikings have had since Paton was hired as Assistant GM in 2012 and figured what would a trade look like player wise. To me the best 3 were 2012 2013 and 2014. I took the top 3 players they took in those drafts for this and I came up with this:

Matt Kalil
Harrison Smith
Josh Robinson
Shariff Floyd
Xavier Rhodes
Cordarrelle Patterson
Anthony Barr
Teddy Bridgewater
Scott Crichton

I know every draft class is unique and it’s not fair to compare them. But to me the effect that Deshaun Watson would have on the Broncos far surpasses the effect that the players unlisted above would have.

How say you?

MY BOYS!!
I hope you guys are doing well. To clarify on my last name, Erbe, you pronounce it er-bee. So as for today’s question. I would personally like to stick with Drew this season because of continuity and the fact that he has shown flashes of elite potential. But I’m not gonna lie, Mac Jones is an incredibly interesting prospect to me. Here’s why. At Alabama, he had a very stacked offense and obviously had great success. This is a young Broncos offense that I think with a solid quarterback could become elite. We have two great running backs (as long as we keep both of them), an incredible receiving corps, and two tight ends who both have elite potential (not sure if Noah is considered elite yet). On top of all that, we have a really great offensive line, and if we get the right tackle figured out, it definitely could be one of the best in the league. I know that this would be a good situation for any of the top 5 quarterbacks, but this just seems like such a great situation for Zac’s boy Mac. Let me know what you guys think!!
Much love,
Sebastian

Bum talk Friday –

Bum Phillips was once quoted as saying “The harder we played, the behinder we got.” Kind of feels like he may have endured his own little world of suck a time or two. I wish Fangio’s quotes were as charming.

Looked at Watson’s stats and saw his 70% completion percentage and my heart fluttered. Don’t want to get my hopes up, but damn do I want him bad.

Second, whoever is the host of the zoom needs to mute Zac whenever Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes or Alabama comes up. I love you Zac, but as my mom says, sometimes you make my butt twitch. Now, a question ive been Christian Pondering for a while, is Zac on your birth certificate or is it short for something like Zachary, Zachariah or Zacsamillian? I’m hoping for the latter.

Third, on Sunday-Monday I spent 20 hours on a golf cart zoomin around while watching the Arizona State/Arizona golf tournament. Thought about you, RK.

Fourth and definitely not least, I am now a proud owner of Tales from the Broncos Sideline!! Mase, you’re my idol and I cannot wait to read it and everything else you write in the future. Much love to you all.

Wanted to clarify yesterday’s comment pointing to Watson’s 4-12 season as an argument against the #QBWinz stat – Ryan absolutely destroyed my incorrect stat on his win percentage, appreciate the fact check, always want to be accurate.

To be fair, I am NOT using the 4-12 record as a knock of Watson, just the opposite, he played like an all pro / MVP candidate, and his team still went 4-12, which is proof that while the QB is important, he can’t control it all. You can’t tell me Tom Brady would have made the playoffs with the Texans this year.

My point: if you think Wins are a key measurement of a QBs quality – IF you believe that, why on earth would you give up the world to get a guy that just went 4-12? Wouldn’t it make more sense to give up 2 first round picks to hop up and get Wilson or Fields than spending 3 firsts, 2 seconds, Sutton, Fant and Chubb for a guy who just went 4-12? Again this is assuming you feel strongly that QB wins are indicative of QB quality.

My boys! Happy Friday. I have heard a lot of people talking about including Tim Patrick in the package for Desaun Watson. My question is can we even trade him? Patrick is an RFA which means that if we assign a tender he would have to sign that tender before we could trade him, and if he didn’t want to get traded he could just refuse to sign the tender correct. The other part of that I don’t see is everyone including Von Miller in the deal. As you guys have said in the past, he isn’t a big trade value. Miller at this point is very comparable to JJ Watt, he is an aging pass rusher who is still good, but has a big contract and has some concerns over the past few seasons. Theres already a lot of talk of the Texans wanting to move on from JJ during the offseason so why would they want another aging pass rusher to get rid of? Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Guys! Forget the ‚for what‘ part – WHEN do you think will we know where Watson is heading?

I know this pod is Broncos focused, but the Cap drama in Philly and New Orleans is going to effect our team.

Let’s start with the Saints and 100M over cap. Only 3 players they can move on from without dead money. Kwon Alexander, Marshon Lattimore and Ryan Ramczyk. The last two would be great additions. Brees retires, so they have to eat 22.650M in dead money, but saves 13M on the cap. Cutting Nick Easton and Malcom Brown save you some money but after that, you have to restructure to get any substantial savings and again push things down the line. If I were Saints GM, I’d retire.

Now, Philly. There is an out on Wentz, but it’s after June 1. Pre-june 1 if you trade him, 33M in dead and less than 1M in cap savings. But if you trade after June 1, you ONLY have 9.2M in dead money and have 25.4M in cap savings. As he has big cap numbers in the future, you might be sending a pick to the team that will take him on. There isn’t likely to be a market for QB’s post June 1. They also are over the cap by about 53M, but have some contracts they can get out of. Barnett is #1, others mean more dead money, but can help.

If I had to chose which was a better situation, I’d actually go Philly. These two teams are likely racing for the #1 pick next year.

Ok, out of Lattimore, Ramczyk, Wentz, Barnett and Ertz, who would you consider adding to the Broncos?

P.S. Zac, your sliding scale on modern era needs refining. A Rod podcast with deep breakdown should be coming.

RK is spot on about the relationship between player success and team/scheme fit – of the teams who drafted qbs in Lock’s class, which scheme/coach would have been the best possible fit for him?

So happy to see you guys propose my crazy trade to RK as well. It did include Risner as a 4th player but based on how fast he said yes, I don’t think that would have mattered to RK.

Speaking of the offense being so young and inexperienced this year I would love it if you guys could go through and look at the offenses in the league with the least experienced players aka the offense whose players have been in the league the shortest amount of time total and see how they faired this year.

What I hope we’d see is they all struggled and had mediocre years. What would really dishearten us is if the other very inexperienced offenses played well.

Thanks again for keeping these offseason pods so fun!

MY BOYS! Another Bum Talk Friday is upon us. With Gary Kubiak retiring, and it looks like for good this time, what is your favorite Kubiak moment besides leading the Broncos to a Super Bowl 50 victory? I think mine was his valiant effort in the 1991 AFC Championship Game when he filled in for an injured John Elway. He almost led the Broncos to another Super Bowl that day. His clutch holds for game winning kicks against Cleveland in the 1986 AFC Championship Game and against the Oilers in the 1991 Divisional Playoff Game were also some really unheralded moments in Broncos’ history. Have a fantastic Friday, wonderful weekend, and enjoy conference championship Sunday. DNVRMY SALUTE!

Would you guys prefer two top 15 picks. Or 5 second round picks?
Side note, RK, my suns are about to sweep them nuggets this weekend!
