How’s it going boys?!! Ive been apart of the DNVR family dating back to the BSN days in 2016 and I just wanted to say that I have enjoyed to see the growth of your beautiful brand!
Let’s get into some Broncos talk.
This has been one of the most impressive off-seasons I have witnessed as a fan since we brought in DWare and Talib in 2014. The only difference from that team and this team is clearly the quarterback position. Id be so deflated as a broncos fan if we don’t trade up to get either Fields or Lance. (Fields is who I prefer). What do you guys think about trading up with Atlanta by offering the 9th pick, our 2022 first, Drew Lock and this year’s second. After the draft, sign Alex Smith. This is my dream scenario. My motto for the next two and half weeks is, You aren’t aggressive without being a little reckless.
Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to have a beer with Justin Fields at the DNVR Bar!
Nashbronco
Hey guys!
As much as I enjoy your Broncos content, I might like yall’s discussions of food even more!
So tell me this: what’s your favorite thing to get at the DNVR Bar? I haven’t been able to visit yet, but I suspect the food is amazing! Can’t wait to see what you guys think.
Count Bridgeula
Peeps be all trippin about losing draft capital to trade up but all those picks are worthless without a top 10 thrower. Trade up is the only thing that makes sense. I’m not one to say things need always to be rational, but in this case, enlightenment era thinking is a must. You gotta mortgage your ass off until you find the hucker of choice.

Spot on Count. Picks might be valuable, but also might be a waste. Get the guy and see how it goes. Playing safe on draft day, rarely works
Some People Call Me The Space Cowboy
You better love that chucker, cause it’s not worked out well recently for Winston, Mariota, Goff, Wentz, Darnold. All top 3 picks traded away. Don’t forget some of the teams traded up for these guys!
The Big T
Couldn’t disagree more. Trade down is the only sensible move with this class, unless Fields is there

Waaaaaaassssssssssssssup?
Guys don’t get my comment yesterday twisted. I don’t want Trask. I’m just beginning to smell that ominous fog of doom floating in….
I like Fields aside from his magnetism towards getting himself in a position to be injured. The fact that I like him makes me feel like they’ll draft Mack. I feel like any QB taken at 4 or 9 will end up feeling like taking Chad Pennington in the 1st round while Tom Brady was sitting at 199…. Or like all the hype about josh rosen being “ready”… Yeah…. Sure he was.
Just take BPA and give LOCK the chance that has been eluding him for 3 seasons of covid, turmoil, coaching and system changes along with injury!!
Casper
Fellas,
If Lock shows enough improvement to keep the job then what should the Broncos do next off-season to build around that?
Harry Urban
The NFL has a problem with the idea that re-treads are a viable pathway to success. The same old white guys going around the coaching carousel. Swapping teams year after year, never changing their philosophies, hoping against hope that their formula that was mediocre at best will take them to the promised land on the next team.
The same can be said about middling QB’s playing musical chairs, like somehow the next chair will magically be better than the last? How many times have these scenarios actually garnered any real success versus how often it does not?
Spare us poor fans more band-aid solutions and one year “get out of jail” patch jobs. Striving to be average is a sure way to fail. That is one lesson I tell my children almost daily.
The only reliable way forward is through innovation and calculated risk taking with a solid long term plan.
I hope George Paton is smart enough to realise this.
Mock me as you may, but I for one, will never settle for average.
BRONCOS-SQUARED
Perhaps this has been asked already. If so, ignore this.
Anyway, even if Denver doesn’t know for sure how the draft would shake out moving up to four, isn’t it good to move up anyway and then leverage that for more picks if the QB they want doesn’t end up at four? Hopefully that makes sense.
Thanks, guys!

Good Day Gents,
This may be a question for Mase but Zac your performance on Broncos Beat has me wondering if in fact this question is for you as well! Well done for the DNVR Broncos Three Musketeers. James Palmer’s Hair better watch out! Alexis Perry knows what’s up! That’s why some FANS representation has only had one representative and the mighty DNVR has the Triplet Attack! Seriously congrats to the three of you as the market notoriety continues to grow and all the amazing work this community has become accustomed to for years.
To the question…
Recalling the transition from Scangs to Pat Shurmur last off season we discussed the year one to year two performance jump in offensive output in his previous stents as OC.
Can we forecast this type of jump this year? What would that jump look like based on the historical performance escalation from year one to year two in Shurmurs offense. And can we look at the talent on the offensive skill position as they mature in the offense as well. What’s the floor and what’s the ceiling?
Many blessing to the DNVR Family!
Drew for QB
How do you guys feel about the report the broncos aren’t in love with a quarterback yet? I feel like it’s gonna end up in one of three ways broncos trade back in the first get a defensive player but draft trask or mond in second, eventually fall in love draft qb in first, or trade for like bridgewater or someone to compete and draft bpa
The Matrix
To the big T,
Your takes are all over the place
You called fields small in ur initial comment . Hes 6’3 220. And to say all you did was watch highlights. Oh very!
But all roads lead to Justin fields
MarkITsnatch
Hey guys!
Mase, how did Springfield Elementary get shutdown and Santa’s Little Helper get injured in the same incident?
Today, let’s look at the Carolina Panthers. All time, the Broncos and Panthers have only played each other 7 times, with Denver having only lost once (extra credit if you can name the broncos player who received Denver’s only touchdown in that game). Since Superbowl wins pretty much supercede all others, what have been your favorite moments between these two teams? And what has been the best game between your team and your former employer, Mase?
Orange Crushing It
Yesterday you guys said something in response to my rant about Shurmur that had me face-palming pretty hard. Mase said that if you pick a Rd 1 quarterback and Shurmur doesn’t build an offense to fit that QB, he should be jettisoned at the first opportunity. Zac heartily agreed saying you HAVE to build around your QB not the other way around.
But… Shurmur couldn’t even do that for Lock! You guys spent all season talking about easy ways to make this offense fit Drew Lock and set him up for success. You guys knew how to do it, the fans knew, analysts on NFL Network and ESPN knew, but Shurmur stubbornly stuck to “his” game all the way into the top 10 of this draft. Why would we expect him to do anything different with a first round QB?
We expect the best from the QB, and you guys have said repeatedly that if anyone plays in the bottom of their position on the league, you should look to move on. Why don’t we hold the coaches to the same standard? “Average” offensive game plans are quarterback killers. I hope I’m wrong and they win the super bowl next year, but I can’t see any reason to believe on this offense with Shurmur in the driver’s seat.
Auszee
The virtually perfect offseason gets better day by day…..
1. Hired a great GM
2. Didn’t sign retread QB in Free Agency or trade for one (so far) *fingers crossed*
3. Watched Panthers, Bears and Football Team take those middling QB’s off the market
Now to finish this off….
4. Trade up to 4 and get the QB of the future as either Fields or Lance will be there or stay at 9 and take Jones.
5. If you can get Minshew for a day 3 pick, do it, and trade Drew for a pick back around the same.
Now the unlikely, but I would do it….
6. As you no longer have the Drew, you can change OC’s without worrying about continuity. Fire Shurmur and replace with Mike Shula. You can wait till the 2nd round to do this. 😛
Big Tebow-fan-owski…. Lance played against lesser competition yes, with players on his team that we also not as good as the power conferences. Lance is a better prospect than Lamar Jackson was coming out.
P.S. Trask is 3rd rounder at best, maybe 4th. Great stats because of his weapons.
The Big T
No. No he’s not.
Orangecrush
Fellas,
Here’s a quick one,
Give me your most overrated and underrated prospect in this years draft.
GO!
dan birk
hey guys!
so george paton has a very strong relationship with northwestern hc pat fitzgerald. the two have shared an agent for a long time and fitzgerald/paton was said to have been a likely hc/gm pairing if the bears job had become available this past cycle.
one of the team’s that justin fields struggled against last season was northwestern. do y’all think that fields struggling against a team where paton would have intimate knowledge of is something that would deter the broncos from drafting fields?

The Count is a writer, not a statistician. Romance gets Romeo and Juliet poisoned. Maths gets us to Mars. Go back in your cobweb crypt you archaic *beep*.
I’m kidding, I love the Count. Sometimes he just missing an “O”.
“Get your guy”
“He’s a top 5 guy”
“He’s generational”
“If you love em, go get em”
It’s all very exciting, but it’s all narrative based and not grounded in much fact for me.
I’m still waiting for the pod where Mase takes us through 20 years of drafts and analyses the payoffs on trade up decisions.
But here’s the emotional side of me…
*beep* me all aboard the *beeping* rocketship let’s go up and get Justin Fields.
It’s dumb as hell betting money at a casino, but *beep* me you can have fun doing it….
Let’s *beeping* goooooooo
side note – Zac looked just delightful in his sports coat and new glasses on Broncos Beat. Go DNVR and go iceman
(And I love the count don’t curse me)
Auszee
*Beeping* *beep* Trade ups….. Watson, Mahomes aren’t bad. Trubisky not so good. Take a shot.

Holy *beeping* *beep*
Shat Purmur? That’s *beeping* gold.
What a community. What a time to be alive.

I saw on NFL.com breakdown of the AFC West that they had Attaochu as our biggest loss in the off season. That should say something significant about the team if they are pointing out a backup OLB. With that being said, where do you think would be a good spot to pickup an OLB in this year’s draft and what are some names we should be looking at in those spots?
As always thanks for the great coverage. Always a bright spot in my day.

Since the Broncos are pretty well stacked in all positions except QB you guys have talked about some draft picks not seeing the field year 1, what draft picks for the Broncos would you guys see competing for playing time this year? (An example would be a day 1-2 RB- Carter, Harris, Etinine may get some carries as a rookie)
SaltyButler
I’ve felt “meh” this entire offseason about our QB situation and the Broncos as a whole. The only two QBs I personally had any interest in were Lawrence or Watson, and neither are obviously happening. I’m just tired of the bridge-QBs and false promises by the organization, but listening to Mase yesterday gave me some hope about moving up in the draft. Now, the only two QBs I have any interest in are Fields, Jones, and Minshew. Between the 3, which of them could you genuinely see being “the guy” here and why?
The Big T
Trey Lance is a Day 3 QB, at best. NFL Analysts all over America, have lost their damn minds.
No time to write my Mac Jones review, will do for tomorrow tho.
Peace out fellas

Tidbits and Bits of Tid
Case for Shurmur:
Here is a list of all QBs Shurmur has had while being an OC or HC:
Marc Bulger, Sam Bradford, Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez, Case Keenum, Eli Manning, Daniel Jones.
Of the QBs that weren’t in their final year prior to retirement (Bulger and Manning), the rest had their BEST career QB rating under Shurmur, and regressed once Shurmur left. He was consistently able to raise the play of his QBs.
Has Drew Lock regressed under Shurmur? We’re so willing to take into account the lack of offseason to defend Lock, but what about Shurmur? If we say that the learning curve for Lock under Scangarello was a full in-person offseason, some VR, and watching Flacco flounder… we can say that the somewhat equivalent learning curve for Lock under Shurmur was a Zoom offseason with no preseason games, and the regular season up to the Miami game. In both seasons, he appears to come out of the learning curve 1/3 of the way through the regular season. In summary, I do not think Lock regressed. I just think his learning curve took place on Sundays for all to see due to Covid restrictions.
Philip Lindsay…. I have to defer to the football intelligence of Patton, Vic, Shurmur and the rest of the league. The team that wanted him most is the one team I would NEVER defer to. Therefore, I do not knock Shurmur for this either.

What’s it say about the Shanahan’s Camp for Gifted QB’s (Quarterback Collective) if they didn’t move up for their literal poster boy? Seems like this has really been overlooked in the Mac Jones hype. -Fumbles

Sorry, I meant to say “what does it say about Fields if the Shanahan’s Camp for Gifted QB’s (Quarterback Collective) didn’t move up for their literal poster boy?”
