Gentleman, I must confess, I have been cheating on you with other podcasts. I just couldn’t help myself. I heard one the other day on conspiracy theories, which was a lot of fun and interesting. It got me thinking, do y’all know of any NFL or Broncos conspiracy theories? Fingers crossed for a good Mase story! Thanks guys!

Idk about NFL conspiracies, but thanks to Mak and the Avs guys, I’m convinced Jack Hughes, a #1 overall draft pick, can’t tie his shoes or skates

In 1976 Mase’s beloved Bucs were in the AFC west. They went 0-14 and scored 125 pts, allowing the opposition to rack up 412. This is all I know. MASE please elaborate.

Hey fellas!

Per Mase’s ask from last week, reposting this monster TLDR, which I hope is an interesting thought exercise.

I’m a consultant and spend a lot of time working with organizations to develop strategic plans for their organizations. We often use a framework that I thought would be an interesting lens to the Broncos organization though. What are your thoughts on the below?

Definitions:
Organizational Vision: This is intended to be an aspirational statement that the organization will spend its lifetime working towards. In other words, the organization will never achieve their vision, but should be getting closer and closer each year.

Strategic Imperatives: What are three things that the organization must accomplish in the strategic planning period to advance the organization towards the vision statement.

Strategic Objectives: What does the organization need in order to achieve the Strategic Imperatives. We usually break out to ask: What people are needed for success? What processes are needed for success? What financial goals must be met for success?

Broncos Strat Plan (Mike’s Take & Questions):
Vision: To win more world championships than any other team, while contributing positively to the Colorado community.

Strategic Imperatives (assuming 2021 as the time planning period):
1) Have a defense that ranks in the top 5 in league
2) Have an offense that ranks above league average
3) Players and coaches to contribute their time, talents, and financial resources to benefit Colorado in meaningful ways.

Strategic Objectives:
1) People: A) Getting Aaron Rodgers is a key objective, B) Driving clarity in the Broncos ownership situation, C) Evaluating the long-term fit of key player personnel (e.g. Drew/Teddy), D) Evaluating the long-term fit of coaches
2) Processes: Not really sure here…. maybe implementing a new time management process this year? What other processes?
3) Financially: Not really sure here. What financial objectives do the Broncos need to strive for in order to achieve their Strategic Imperatives?

Sorry for the long comment and thanks for the indulgence of my nerdy framework!

He’s player who has all the tools, but just needs time to put it together on the field. He has a difficult time reading defenses, and calling out protections. He particularly struggles during 7 on 7 drills. He also had a string of fluke injuries that limited his on the field playing time. He just needs time to develop. His best plays are when he’s out of the pocket going off script. If we give him time he can be the long term answer at QB. The player we’re talking about is Paxton Lynch… This is what was reported during Paxton’s first few seasons. We as fans didn’t know Paxton was more of interested in gaming than studying film. We didn’t know about the Paxton Patch. In the words of Benjamin Albright “you don’t know what you don’t know”. I hope Drew Lock doesn’t have red flags like this. But, I’m not sure we the fans would be allowed to know if he did at this point in the process. I’m a Lock supporter, and I hope he takes a big leap forward, but the staggering similarities to Paxton are tempering my expectations.

To be fair, Drew has the work ethic that passed by Paxton from the get go

Hey guys!

Who’s the Cleveland Brown you flat out despised, but would’ve loved had they gone to Denver or Tampa instead?

Hi guys, Wondering if Mike Clay can give me next weeks lottery numbers, would be easier than predicting a running backs output! I look forward to our guys blowing his numbers up. So, if you had the greatest offensive line, wide receivers and running backs ever assembled, who would you take as QB? Also Zac, a Fruit Tingle comprises of vodka and blue curacao, topped with lemonade, ice and a dash of grenadine, with a slice of pineapple as a garnish, enjoy!

Before I talk football….MASE!!! Tell your daughter her taste in beverages is impeccable, boba is the sh@t! Obviously gets that from her mom LOL!

You guys made an interesting comment last week and then reiterated Monday and I wanted to get some more insight. With Fangio stating that Shurmur is going to have a big say come QB decision time what are the odds we think drew gets a true fair shake? Shurmur loves his 11 personnel sets and Lock seems to thrive in 12 personnel sets, so if at the end of training camp the QBs are near equal, giving Lock a slight edge do you feel like Shurmur will fall back to his comfort zone and defer to Teddy so he can keep his three wide game plan?

TLDR

I give Shurmur a bit of a pass for last year given the lack of OTAs when he could have worked out better plays and tweaked his book for Lock. Come camp time it was too late to adjust the book for Drew, and maybe he did with a full offseason and body of work to fall back on. We have seen Shurmur get creative if we hop in the way back machine when he was QB coach for Mcnabb so we know he has the upbringing and experience to do it. I’m just curious if he’s truly willing to make the effort or if there isn’t a subtle Inclination to move on from Lock so he can steady the ship this year and pick a system perfect QB in the first round next year, thoughts?
