In response to Zac’s question about my take on #30s Jettison
I loved Phil the player and the dude … but
If you take off the Orange tinted glasses and study the tape/stats – Phil is a unidimensional back and he’s not elite at that one dimension.
He has many long runs but he has even more runs for little to no gain. He has durability issues. He’s not a great pass blocker. He’s not a third down back. Not a special teamer.
Has he been used incorrectly? Yes. The Broncos screwed the pooch on not creating packages that fit his skills.
All that said , however, he’s not right the back for this system and he’s not so good that he’s worth giving Shurmur the boot.
It’s a crappy situation. But the Broncos are right to move on

Answering the Rotten tomatoes flying queue…
Stats be damned, yes Lindsay was an average back. As a guy who grew up in Colorado, went to CU, watched the boy become a man, I hate seeing him go anywhere else other than the Broncos. At the same time, I’m happy he got paid. Go crush that contract Phil, make the Broncos rue the day they let you go, I think I share the same sentiment as most Broncos fans when I say I hope you kick our ass, but thanks for not allowing it to be twice a year!

Hello fellowz…
I’m listening to this Monday morning pod and while you talk about corners it takes me back to an epic arguement i had about cornerbacks in Fangio’s scheme on one of Zac’s posts on Twitter about 4 years ago. The arguement that spanned more than a week was about the system utilizing the zone an needing LB’s who could cover more than high dollar lockdown man corners….
So my question is? Why would you burn a premium top10 draft pick on a corner that could be found in round 3?
Question 2 is? There’s about 12 accusations against Deshawn Watson currently by women…. What impact does that have in making him the face of your franchise. I realize, in the United States people are innocent until proven guilty but its not a good look to have that turmoil sitting on the hill lurking over his head.
Some People Call Me The Space Cowboy
Which of these remaining FA’s would you rather see in Orange and Blue next season (assume all are 1 year deals)
1. S Kareem Jackson
2. Jadaveon Clowney
3. Jurell Casey
4. Alex Smith
Another round of “What’s more Likely?”
1. Von Miller returns to form and gets 15 sacks?
2. Jerry Jeudy and Cortland Sutton both hit 1,000 receiving yards?
Casper
Fellas,
Do you see Fangio being able to get an extension if the team is under .500 but is once again hit by the injury bug?
Going Hamler
As a Virginia Tech alum (during the Kyle Fuller years), I couldn’t be happier to have him on our team. Before this all went down, I was excited at the prospect of drafting Farley. But I feel like this was the smarter move by Patton and gang. To stay on the VT train, I got a trivia question for you guys … can you name the last Hokie drafted by the Broncos?
…… don’t look below at the answer …..
…..
Vinston Painter (2013 … 6th round)

Hey hey my guys – we made it past Monday! Let’s go!
I know that the consensus is that getting a RB in round #1 is generally a bad move, but the conversation about trading back twice, and getting Najee Harris at the end of the first is really intriguing to me… IF he’s elite. When a team has a premier (and healthy) RB, it’s such a huge difference-maker. Especially if that RB is young and cheap.
So… how do you think Najee stacks up looking at the real elites of the RB position today? Do you think he could be a feature back like Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, Alvin Kamara, C-Mac, or Saquon? If so, I’m all on board for getting an elite RB in round 1 while collecting draft capital for next year. Call me crazy.
Mike1809
Sorry – I had one more quick question! What do you think our chances are of getting K-Jack back? Watching that guy light people up last year was awe-inspiring. He’s a freak. Could this be a situation like Shelby Harris of last year? Letting him test the market and then resigning him at a lower price tag? I’d be so pumped to get that guy back.

Ok, I’m committing to my top QB rankings after much studying….
1. Trevor Lawrence – Generational talent, Ceiling – Best QB in the game, Floor – top 10 QB Best talent coming out since Peyton Manning
2. Zach Wilson – Clearly #2 for me, Ceiling – Top 5 QB, Floor – top 15 QB has some Mahomes like athleticism
3. Trey Lance – Great skills and athletic ability, limited tape – Ceiling – Top 5 QB, Floor – can’t keep starting job once he has it. He’s a true boom or bust QB
4. Justin Fields – Great talent and accuracy, holds the ball too long and will take too many sacks if that isn’t fixed. Ceiling – top 10 QB, Floor – journey man starter
5. Mac Jones – Great mind, borderline arm strength, Ceiling top 10 QB, floor backup QB
Let’s say the Broncos are on the clock and Lance, Fields and Jones are all available and you are going QB, which one would you take?

Hey guys answer me this…
Who gets the #23 jersey this year? Ojmudia, Darby, or Fuller? All 3 were rocking it last year. Shoot Darby has probably already made a cash offer lol.
Ps stay on the Lock bandwagon guys. ITs going to get awkwardly crowed when he tares it up this season.
So excited about this season!
FarmORminshew
Who the WTF cares?
FarmORminshew
I guarantee there’s no one named Shelby, Justin, or Von crushing Paton’s decision making.
The Danimal
T shirt idea since Zac mentioned getting a Shelby shirt going….Shelby in the end zone lined up across from Big Ben with a volleyball net at the one yard line and Shelby is spiking the ball back in Ben’s face….make it happen!

Count Bridgeula
I just made this happen in my mind and it’s great

Hey guys!
Today, we look at the Detroit Lions. There has been an interesting, if not odd history between Denver and Detroit. Denver has shutout the Lions, back in ’87. Both teams have had blowout wins. Aqib Talib tried his hand at optometry at Ford Field. But what was the greatest game? The Bucs and Lions have a much more storied history, as they were once division rivals. TB even has a playoff win against Detroit, in a long line of teams snuffing out the Lions hopes at reaching the Superbowl. What was your favorite, Made?
T-Revitup Bronco
Jumping back in here guys. About the #23 jersey, you can add Boone to the list as well. He might take it with the guns he’s toting lol ?
FarmORminshew
Fellas! A few months ago y’all were touting Chris Simms’ ability to rank QB draft classes but, as far as I know, you haven’t mentioned his rankings for 2021. Just wondering how you feel about Simms’ rankings this year: Zach Wilson, Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, Kellen Mond, Justin Fields, Trey Lance. If Simms the lesser is as good as you’ve said he is at picking QBs, would Zach be right in saying Big-Mac is the best available QB at pick 9? If nothing else, wouldn’t he be trade bait for Dak?
dan birk
hey guys!
what is y’alls take on the chiefs striking out on (at least) three free agents this year? so far trent williams, juju and josh reynolds have turned down the chiefs to play with other teams.
coming into this free agency period there were some thoughts that ‘super-teams’ would be formed and players would be running to take 1-year deals with teams like the chiefs but that hasn’t been the case even though they’ve been trying.
now, i’m not going to act like the chiefs are finished, and they’re still going to be a great team this year….. but do y’all think the performance in the superbowl has dulled their shine?
dan birk
oh, and i also wanted to extend my condolences to everyone affected by the shooting in boulder last night

So when I heard about Elijah McClain last year as an African American man I identified with him I’ve been a young kid minding my business walking home and stopped by police and interrogated because I “fit a profile ” and then able to go home under the merritt of “just wanted to make sure you’re ok ” ….. When I saw and was listening to the news about Boulder I’m hearing bronco fans I’m seeing people give interviews wearing bronco caps and I start to identify with it !!! I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired cuz the irony is the representative of the third district which is really close 2 boulders 2nd district doesn’t think there should be deeper background checks something that’s approved by well over 70% of all Americans and she promotes weapons as a necessity and look what happens you can’t GO TO THE GROCERY STORE !!!! …… If you can’t be safe while getting a massage , while having bible study at church while getting something to eat where can you be safe ….. You blot out darkness with light you kill fear with love you make less guns as easily accessible may not be the best solution but try it see what happens …..Cuz this stuff only happens hear and I’m damn sure tired of it happening in colorado …if u can’t be safe at the grocery store can I be safe at a tailgate before the game later this year ? ……. I live in california gun laws are stricter massive shootings are scarce but that 3rd district congresswoman is disgusting and a microcosim of the problem sorry to get political but I mean she INSISTS on being a walking gun advertisement and look what happened in her city in her state that she resperesents she’s disgusting my prayers are with broncoscountry and with boulder and that grocery store and officer and his children ? like damn somebody please find the answers please …..

My Boys! Loving the offseason coverage, thanks for keeping me dialed in on my Broncos!
Couple of points today, first on Lindsay; I am gutted he’s not going to be a Bronco, my Mile High Salute, Run Phil Run and Lindsay 30 Broncos Jersey will all be worn with pride. But based on the offence we are running it was probably the right call. It can suck and be the right move at the same time.
For the draft I am loving the idea of trading back and grabbing a RB1 either Etienne from Clemson or Harris from Alabama (easy Zac lol). Accumulate some extra draft capital and then get a Safety in round 2 or 3.
I’m wanting to add a new Broncos Jersey to my line-up, I’m down to Simmons or Risner what do you guys think?
Drew for QB
Do you guys think that even if Drew plays good I’m saying around top 10-16 and we make the playoffs that we would go out and try to draft a guy either to take his job and trade Drew, take a project qb to sit for a year, or roll with Drew?
Lovethunderdownunder
Kyle Fuller – great quote. The blokes loves a chat. Couldn’t shut him up at the opening presser. Nice one…..
*chuckles sarcastically*
MavBronco
Howdy gents,
Say the Broncos make a draft day trade and land Watson. Do you trust Shurmur to not call a 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down, then 4th and 12 QB sneak, up the center, with the game on the line? He’s my most worrying Bronco for the upcoming year.
Thanks for the pod as always
Lovethunderdownunder
Sorry guys, third post. To be fair one was a repost, and the other very short. And this is a bit more meaningful….
It was awful to hear about Boulder. It’s beautiful place with great people, and I know it’s close to the hearts of a few of the DNVR crew.
This is a community where we havnt need afraid speaking on “contentious” topics where we believe it’s right. It’s unbelievable to me this topic would even be so dividing, but I know it is. So I’ll say what many outside the US are saying and have said in the past…
I don’t get it.
You need gun law reform. Desperately. The arguments I hear on this border on insanity. I don’t live there, but I care about Denver, it’s people and it’s community a great deal. I don’t understand how there isn’t meaningful change on this. I feel for you all and I hope some good comes from something so horrific….but havnt we said that before?
PigTosser66
No go on Darnold. No way you can give up at least a 2nd round pick for a guy that needs football rehab but is going into his 4th year of his rookie deal. As soon as you get him you’d have to decide on his 5th year option and you can’t pick that up without seeing him play on your team right? Hard pass for me.
My ideal situation is Mariota on a 2-yr deal with a Lance or Fields drafted this year. All athletically similar and Mariota could start year 1 and either be the backup year 2 or start the season as the starter again if Fields or Lance need to cook a bit longer.
If Mariota doesn’t shake free from Vegas, having Lock and a top 10 QB in the draft this year could also work though. I’d assume Lock could hold off the rookie at least through camp and then if Lock balls out he keeps playing. And if the team keeps winning then he keeps playing. At the end of the year you have a good problem. You have a top ten 1st round QB that just got to sit and learn for a year so his value should remain the same at minimum. I’d bet it actually is higher in 2022 because Fields and Lance are probably right there with Sam Howell ahead of the rest of the 2022 QBs. And you have Drew Lock who would have just had a good year and looks like a good starting QB in the league which would also put his value very high. And if Lock faltered during the year then you had your top 10 QB already on the roster to step in instead of having to go through the same crap as we always do next offseason. I’m not hating this at all. QB is the most important position in all of sports. Until you are 100% sure you have the guy you cannot spend enough resources on it.
TrueChampFan24
Crazy how getting a GM who knows what the hell he is doing can change the feel of this team.
So glad Elway “stepped” away.
Also, ultimate team guy Najee Harris driving 10 hours to cheer on his teammates at their pro day? Sign me up.
The Danimal
EMERGENCY COMMENT!!!!! Hope I get this one in under the wire.
With Caleb Farley getting back surgery what are the chances he slips to round two?
Just imagine if we stay out at 9 and Mac Jones is just sitting there for the taking, then come round 2 and Farley is still on the board.
I’ll let Mase go get a fire extinguisher to save Zac who likely just burst into flames of happiness thinking about that!

What’s up fellas! With Phil gone and the two CB signings, how likely is it that we take my guy Najee Harris at 9? Would you rather draft Harris at 9 or another project QB like Lance or Jones? Personally, I would rather stay away from another project guy and go BPA at 9 or trade back. Thanks as always, yah boi Wildcard.
