Hello Friends-
I started the Jags game at the ‘down 27-0’ point, realized I’d seen this movie before, hopped on DraftKings and snagged Jags moneyline. That was fun!
I’m going to go with more inflammatory wording than RK and say that not interviewing most potential head coaching candidates is INEXCUSABLE.
4 new head coaches got teams into the playoffs this year and we interviewed one of them last cycle. If it is me, you want to build a book on what a good head coach looks like the same way that you want to build a book on what a prototypical QB looks like. You don’t want to be looking for either one often and want to hit when you do have to look.
Every time we don’t interview a guy who later succeeds as a head coach elsewhere, we are doing ourselves a disservice. We have no idea in that case what about them may have contributed to that success. To quote a less-famous Hank – “That’s Asinine”.
About half the guys we’ve interviewed are closer to 70 than 40. How do you feel about this strategy; Tie a coach to Russ and let them ride off into the sunset in 7 years, and reboot then?
Windy City Bronco
No, the Broncos didn’t get played by Harbaugh.
All of the reporting was clear that Harbaugh’s preference was to stay in Michigan and get paid. The question was whether that would happen or not. The Broncos knew all of that before they scheduled the meeting. In the end, Michigan made the move and Harbaugh’s staying. It was absolutely worth a two hour zoom call on the chance that Michigan stuck to their position.
Even if they got played: who cares? What does it actually matter to this team? What does it matter to the coaching search?
The Count
Is there an nfl coaching hire in the last 2 decades that has made as big of an immediate impact as Coach Prime has at CU? Is there a current candidate that could have a bombastic effect on the culture of the team? Not just Xs and Os, but a real sea change of ideas passion?
