A lot has been said about which side of the ball the next HC will be from and while I think that element is a bit overplayed, there is something to be said for a defensive coach being able to consistently keep a strong offensive staff.

If we bring in a defensive HC and his OC gets things turned around for our offense, that OC will likely get HC offers as high performing OCs are getting promoted after a year or two. Having an offensive playcaller at HC that can maintain the standard and schematic continuity throughout their tenure is a huge advantage. It doesn’t matter who the OC in KC is because Andy Reid is their play caller and he isn’t going anywhere, same for guys like Frank Reich and Kliff Kingsbury.

Sure, Quinn hit on Shanahan and to a lesser extent Sark, but those guys (like QBs and HCs) aren’t falling off of trees and I’m not super confident that ANY defensive coach can consistently hire a strong OC every 2 or 3 seasons.

This is a really well made point. Hadn’t considered that the best OC’s are hard to retain.

I have faith in George. I really do. I love the candidates he has set to interview. Just not a fan of the idea of Bieniemy for obvious reasons, and Jim Caldwell does scare me. Perhaps that’s just because I’m so used to seeing him with a Lion on his hat. Yuck. I’m a fan of Brian Flores. Not sure why Miami let him go, he was winning and players respected him!

Also, thanks for the great coverage all season boys. Love the new camera angles on the live pod! Looking even more professional!

Gentlemen! Greetings from the UK.
Just looking at the 2022 schedule and see that, once again, we have a road game at the Jaguars (that’s Jag-you-aahs Zac, not the Jag-wires!!). Surely it’s time for the NFL to ask the Broncos to have a London game? Hope to see you over her come November for a special DNVR tailgate-on-tour with the British, Irish and European part of #BroncosCountry! Bring the Breck Brews over on the plane – you can’t buy them over here 🙁
Cheers to all the DNVR family around the world.

On Youtube, NFL Throwback has a great video on the evolution of quarterbacking. They describe 6 trees of QB style1. Playbook Master (Aikman, Otto Graham) 2. The Arm Branch (Marino, Bradshaw) 3. The Prototype (Manning, Unitas) 4. Scramblers (Murray, Wilson, Young) 5. Precision Passers (Brees, Warner, Montana) 6. Backyard Bomber (Mahomes, Farve, Elway) 7. Barrier Buster (Briscoe, Moon) 8. Dual Threat (Jackson, Newton, Vick). Based on these categories what type of QB would you guys like to see on the Broncos next season? I predict Mase would say Prototype, Zac would say Playbook Master, and RK would say Scrambler.

Seeing all the interview requests has me so excited. This feels different than previous bronco hc searches and approaches to the game. Youth, analytics, diversity, modern football at its finest!

I don’t see Doug Pederson on the list. Think he’s coming or not on the list?

A coach we don’t hear about (And even has a possible connection to the future ownership) What is Jim Caldwell doing now days, and any chance he could be a candidate? The guy took the damn Lions to 2 playoff appearances in 4 years, yes the Detroit Lions. That’s like saying you beat a Tesla Roadster with a Kia.
Also, on another note, what are the odds the NFL changes OT to eliminate times? You had 2 teams seriously consider a tie for playoffs (FYI-Carr was in Shotgun when Staley called TO, Raiders wanted to win). Here is my idea
Each team guaranteed 1 possession via kickoff to attempt and score as they see fit (TD, FG) Safety at any time ends the game, but after unsuccessful 4th down, FG, or turnover on 1st possession there is a kickoff for the 2nd teams possession. If game is tied after this, we go to the new NCAA rule (2 point conversions). Play until their is a winner.

Greetings Gentlemen!

We would like to aggravate the Kirk Cousins controversy, as we ourselves are split in opinion (older Sobey is pro-Kirk, younger is anti-Kirk). Kirk Cousins seems like a true Rorshach, and we would like to hear more about your cases both for AND against him as the next Broncos QB.

On a related note, would each of you answer this question: Are wins a valid individual statistic for QBs? (We apologize if you have answered this question before, we’ve only recently discovered the pod)

McVay, Kingsbury, Lafleur, Zac Taylor – all young coaches who are in the playoffs. It seems like success with a young first time head coach is becoming the rule (and it’s not just because they have a QB, Herbert with Staley missed playoffs).

The best coaches with “experience” are already taken cause they’re on teams just like the best QBs with experience are usually taken. You can choose to go with someone who’s been to a super bowl (aka Flacco, Jimmy G at QB or Pederson and Quinn at coach) instead of a young prospect at QB or coach like turning to the draft for a QB or bringing on a coach like Kellen Moore.

But most people don’t really like that or advocate for that at QB, why should we settle for that at head coach? I’m not saying I’m out on guys like Pederson and I’m not saying QB and coach are perfectly analogous, but they’re close enough that we should all temper our excitement in guys like Quinn and cross our fingers Paton is brave enough to go with young guys like Kellen that, much like young QBs, have higher upside to be a really good or amazing coach even if the risk is higher, just like drafting a young QB.

Hey guys,

So the list looks set, unless Paton wants to interview more than 8.

I would say that Quinn, Hackett, Mayo and Bieniemy are serious candidates, whilst O’Connell, Moore, Glenn and Gannon are just curiosity / brain-picking guys.

Would you agree? Some would argue Moore is a serious candidate, but I just don’t get it.

Cheers

Hey guys!, is it bad that i am more interested in the Broncos now than for the past 3 weeks?, lol, i guess that’s what you get when your play on the field has become totally irrelevant.
But I’m confident in the direction of the team, i have complete trust in George, he seems to me like a guy with no pre conceived bieses, he will take a look at all kind of candidates for this position and after he evaluates all the information I trust him to make the best decision for this team.
Do you think the Broncos asking to interview Green Bay’s Oc and Qb coach is a sign that Rogers wants to come to Denver?

Mase, loved the article on Mayo, he seems to me like a young Mike Tomlin.
Are you guys doing profiles on all 90 candidates the Broncos are going to interview? Lol

My boys! This offseason is going to be insane and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. Glad Fangio and Shurmur are gone. Now that the home/away opponents have been finalized, I’m looking forward to 2022! I’ll be going to watch the Broncos play in Baltimore, Carolina, and Seattle next year, and am going to come out for a home game at some point too. Like Mase, I too collect souvenir cups from each stadium I see the Broncos play in! I also will be establishing a Broncos supporters group here in central Ohio and have made arrangements with a local bar. More to come on that.

Browns fans here in Ohio are trying to run Baker out of town. What do you guys think about this option if Russ/Rodgers don’t pan out, and CLE doesn’t pick up his 5th year option?

Long live DNVR. Can’t wait to get back out there next year. That chicken sandwich sounds bomb.

Go Broncos.

With the news that we’re interviewing Luke Getsy, I’ve got a hunch that Nathaniel Hackett is likely a strong candidate as I’d imagine Getsy would be his OC pick.

Not sure if you guys have read Nicki’s WaPo piece (highly highly recommend it) or seen any of his mic’d up videos but he’s an absolute character, very funny, and a really innovative, open mind not just as an OC, but as a teacher of football. Seems like an anti-Fangio and with an assistant HC like Zimmer or Munchak, could be a slam dunk to 180 the culture in the building.

My boys! It’s a beautiful day in Broncos Country. The birds aka are chirping, the sun is shining, and the hope is palpable!!!! Regardless of if we go Defense or Offense for HC, it’s hard not to trust George Paton, based on the roster moves and the fact that he is interviewing everyone and their mother! I have full faith that our next HC will be John Fox or Gary Kubiak in what they accomplish. Be easy my bros

P.s. Zac sorry about Alabama

Hey fellas! After watching last nights game do you see Stetson Bennett having a similar meteoric rise as Mac Jones after his championship performance? I know Jones put up a lot better stats than Bennett, but it always feels like the National Championship winning QB gets the rub and shoots up the boards. Could you see him being a day two pick? Thanks for the great content as always fellas, yah boi Wildcard.

Hey Yall! I’ve been waiting until after the natty to comment and introduce myself. Finally got a subscription for Christmas after finding yall early last offseason! I’m a grad student at UGA and a rare Broncos fan in the middle of Georgia. I’m excited to finally have a dedicated Broncos community and I’m now planning a trip out to Denver over spring break. After my Braves and Dawgs won championships 69 days apart, I’m hoping their fortune rubs off on the Broncos next season! Sorry that your Draft Kings picks didn’t hit Zac. Go Broncos, Go DNVR, and Go Dawgs!
