What’s the dream scenario from top to bottom for the Broncos one year from now? Who are in which positions for the broncos to succeed even if it’s not what fans wanted.

Fellas,

I was curious if you could go into what you know as far as what exactly an interview is for a GM of a pro sports team is like? What questions are being asked? Does the candidate need to present exactly what they would like to do with the roster, coaches, front office? Or just give a basic run down of what type of team they will put together?

First off guys, I just wanted to say, I’ve spent a lot of time venturing into some other Denver Broncos podcasts and radio shows and without a doubt you guys are the gold standard. Mase is the Peyton Manning of Broncos podcast hosts. His understanding of the game, history of the NFL, recall of historical events in football, pop culture, and general knowledge never ceases to blow my mind. Zac beyond being ridiculously likeable consistently presents balanced, thoughtful, intelligent takes and legendary Twitter typos. Last but not least, RK captures the heart and soul of DNVR and makes the podcast so genuinely fun to listen to day in and day out even in these dark days of being Broncos fans.

If you can spare it please subscribe, give positive reviews, etc. to support these guys, they provide coverage that is second to none and have built an extraordinary fan community online and off. Thanks for all the work you dudes put in, Broncos Country is lucky to have you.

NOW back to football, I was pleasantly shocked to see Elway vacate the GM role and at face value it’s incredibly exciting but I have a sinking feeling about this. I know Elway wants to step back from the day to day operations and enjoy his personal life but if thigs get ugly, I have a hard time imagining him not getting involved and being a little heavier handed with the GM. I’m also not sure if he’s going to trust someone whose general thinking/perspective isn’t aligned with his and Vic’s and trust them to make significant changes to the way the team and FO operate. Lastly, I’m really not sure what to make of Fangio’s involvement in the hiring process as well. I get retaining him to maintain continuity but I don’t think he’s performed well enough over the past two seasons to have the level of clout that would enable him to be involved in the search. After Drew Lock, Vic Fangio may be under the most (well deserved) scrutiny next season and the idea of putting him in a position to pick his own boss doesn’t sit right with me. Am I being overly paranoid or pessimistic about this? I want to be excited but can’t shake the skepticism.

Hey guys!

I wanted to add to something you guys brought up on tuesday:
TL;DR is the 2013 week 17 matchup between the Vikings and Packers a harbinger of what’s to come in this postseason?

Going into week 17, we all knew Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson were going to be league MVP and comeback player of the year. It was just a matter of who was who. The Vikings were win and in against the Packers who had already clinched the division. The game came down to the wire. After taking their last timeout, with the game tied, AP needed to get to the 6 yard line to break Erik Dickerson’s single season rushing record. He could’ve, but with 2 defenders in front of him, a touchdown wasn’t guaranteed. Instead, he stepped out at the 12, which set up the game winning field goal. I postulate that because he chose to do what was best for the team over a personal accomplishment, he was named MVP over Manning. Does this inform the Derrick Henry candidacy for MVP?
Also, because of the Vikings win, they had to play the Packers in the wild card round the next week. Just like how the Browns had to clinch against the Steelers to play the Steelers next week.

Missed the cutoff yesterday, so reposting the comment for today’s pod:

For the record: I love the idea of Champ Kelly at GM, except for what it could mean for Lock. If Kelly was in the pro Deshaun Watson camp in Chicago, think it’s possible his first act as GM is a major move to go up to #2 and grab Justin Fields? If not, are there any non-QB prospects you could see in the top 8 that Denver may consider moving up a few spots for with Kelly at the helm?

Also considering the darkest timeline here…. If Champ Kelly was NOT in the pro Watson camp in Chicago and sees an opportunity to keep HIS guy and prove the entire world wrong by trading the #9 pick for….. Mitchell Trubisky.

Hey guys,

So my last question on here was three days ago, when I said “this off-season should be relatively straightforward (famous last words)”. And then of course we get the Elway news the very next day! When will I learn? ?

Anyway, exciting news and will make this off-season intriguing. Question’s for you…do you think Elway will want to hear from the candidates that they’re keen to give Lock one more year? Do you think if a candidate said in an interview that he’ll be looking hard at the QB position and isn’t a fan of what he’s seen from Lock, then Elway won’t be keen?

Thanks guys. Stay safe over the pond.

Sorry Zac, you podcasts are usually when I’m snoring. Just call me dreamweaver.

So, why am I not a let’s give Drew another year? I’d love to see him succeed. But the odds are not that good. I get that many that support him are Broncos Country and just want success. But think about this…..

4 years at Mizzou….
49% completion rate – 4 Td’s and 8 Int’s
56.4% completion rate – 23 Td’s and 10 int’s
57.8% completion rate – 44 Td’s and 13 int’s
62.9% completion rate – 28 Td’s and 8 int’s

2 years at our Broncos
64.1 completion rate – 7 Td’s and 3 int’s
57.3 completion rate – 16 Td’s and 15 ints

If we sit here and say, he’s showing improvement, he might be the guy, you are putting your eggs in a cart that has a career completion percentage below the Mendoza line. 60% completion rate is the equivalent of batting .200 in the MBL. It’s 122 TD’s v. 57 Ints. He’s capable, but far from franchise. He might be a Dilfer and get you one, but you have seen nothing to say that’s a “Lock”.

For me, Lock has about a 25% chance of being the guy. Fields and Wilson are around the 30-40% range, Lance is about the same 25% as Lock. Lock requires no more picks of course. But his ceiling is very shaky.

What is up Gents, Greetings from Germany!

Long time listener, frist time commenter.

All that dream talk yesterday reminded me of a dream I had last week.

I woke up covered in sweat because the Broncos just had traded a 2nd round pick for Kirk Cousins. My initial thought after waking up was: “Not another washed up QB.”

But now a week later I am not so sure anymore. What do you guys think of Cousins and would you trade him for a 2nd (probably really unrealistic)?

Thank you for the awesome pods.

Good Morning Y’all!

Wow I didn’t realize how sad my first comment may sound when actually read off on the pod lol
I just had a thought about a new GM, which I’m kind of hoping for Champ Kelly mainly because of his name, and figured I’d share. I think the new GM may just look to next year after being hired. I think all 3 of y’all have pointed out that Vic is in a do or die year, Ellis won’t be back in 2022 and Elway may officially retire and the endless ownership debacle will be over, hopefully. It would then be like most new GM scenarios where they can basically start from scratch. So I see a new GM as leaving most everything the way it is and try to stock up for next year’s draft by maybe trading down in this year’s draft just to pick up more 2022 capitol. Maybe that’s just my hope as I really like the roster we have and hope we can run it back with just about every player. Any merit to that though process?

Hey guys, was reading up on Champ Kelly and saw that his title is assistant director of player pro and that reports to Josh Lucas, Director of Player Pro than to Ryan Pace GM. I thought that was interesting as I haven’t heard Lucas be attached to any GM interviews whereas Kelly has several. Any insight into that? I get Kelly has Denver ties and is talented/highly thought of but it seems as if he’s a two steps away from final decision making w/ the Bears instead of being the number two guy there.

My biggest fear about the 2021 draft is that the chargers draft Kyle Pitts and the broncos are stuck playing him, Waller, and Kelce twice a year and getting tormented by the TE position. Even tho biggest need for denver in the draft I most likely a CB, could you see them trying to move up in to round 1 again to get another MLB as they tried to last year?

Thanks for all the great coverage throughout the year!

MY BOYS! If the Pro Football Talk rumor that Deshaun Watson could ask to be traded is true, you have to figure that the Broncos would be very interested, right? Was Champ Kelly on Team Deshaun prior to the 2017 NFL Draft? Kelly looks pretty dejected in the war room after Chicago decided to select Mitch Trubisky. What would it take to land Watson? Two firsts and Drew Lock? More? Here’s to a better day today than what we experienced yesterday. DNVRMY SALUTE!

Hey guys,
Been a while since my last comment and will try to be brief. I am from Wichita, KS but was raised right to be a die hard Bronco. I love to remind everyone here that the chiefs are a Missouri team. Lol.
Several of my siblings and I are doing ski trip to Colorado the week of the 25th and was planning to fly out to reduce the driving time and also hopefully be able to come by the DNVR Bar before the rest of them drive through town. Looks like I won’t be able to this time since the bar doesn’t open till 4:00. Looking forward to the next opportunity!

Anyways, thank you for all your great coverage on the season. I am immensely excited for the offseason with you all, especially your coverage of the new GM search.
