Fun fact. If you sort quarterbacks by EPA per play in fourth quarters, the top 5 quarterbacks this season are Patrick Mahomes, Drew Lock, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, and Drew Brees. I did use a garbage time filter to only include plays where both teams still have at least a 10% chance of winning the game.
Zooming out to get a bigger picture, I looked at the data from 2017 through 2020, and the top ten is Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees, Drew Lock, Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen. The caveat I’ll give is that Lock’s sample size for those situations is much, much smaller than the rest of the top 10.
I’m not sure a whole lot can be extrapolated from this, but we can definitely say he’s in good company here. It also shows that the lights don’t get too big for the kid in big moments. I love to see it.

MY BOYS!
I hope your weekend went great, and Ryan, hope you had fun on your trip. I hope by the time you read this on the pod, we know if we got Matt or DeShaun, or we at least know if we’re riding with Drew. Zac, I really enjoyed your article on Melvin Gordon! That leads me into my first question (I have two today if that’s alright).
Have you all heard anything about Melvin’s potential suspension? I remember you saying back in December that there is a chance he wouldn’t have to serve a suspension for three weeks. Let’s hop into my second question.
So I remember Ryan saying that last year he delved really deep into every single prospect for the first and second round, and I wanted to do that this year. How did you go about doing that? Is there a certain subscription that you had, did watch highlights, or something else?
Thank you guys for everything and have a great Monday.
Much love,
Sebastian

Fellas,
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that Urban Meyer should look into trading #1 overall for Watson straight up. When Urban Meyer was coaching Ohio Sate he recruited Watson heavily so we know he’s a fan. He won’t have to worry about going through any potential growing pains with a rookie. So many great college coaches have failed in the NFL so why not get a guy who you can win with immediately and you can coach for at least the next decade?
How say you?

Hello guys!
It has been a minute since I have been able to comment. I have been engaged, now married, had to deal with a loss in the family, and now I am moving to Hawaii in may! It’s good to be back to commenting.
Well on the topic of Hawaii.. come next January, which Broncos do you think I’ll be seeing in Honolulu at the pro bowl?
Thanks again,
Tommy Bronco!

Hey guys! After the convo on Friday about RK on the plane and Watson throwing bombs I have a really funny story to tell you!
Back in 2014, after the broncos got blown out by Seattle in the super bowl. I was flying to Hawaii with my girlfriend at the time and her family out of Seattle. I’m from a small town in British Columbia and was about the lone Broncos Fan of a town full of Seahawks fans. I was in grade 12 at the time, and in a group chats with all my buddies I jokingly said when I was in Seattle I was gonna bomb the Seahawks stadium as vengeance. So on the drive down and we cross the border, I lose cell phone connection as I don’t have roaming, but when I get to the hotel and get Wifi and open the group chat to my friends freaking out and apologizing to me. I was so confused. Then I find out, one of my friends took a screenshot of my message and posted it on Twitter tagging Century Link Field and the Seahawks.
The girlfriends dad at the hotel gets a phone call.. it’s from the Seattle police department or FBI, not sure but there was detective on the phone. What happened was the admin for century link field notified police, and at first police they thought it was a joke.. until they saw I crossed the border that same day. I had to talk to the detective on the phone at I was 17 and scared crying and thought my life was over! There was two cop cars sitting outside the hotel in case I had to get taken in. Fortunately, the detective was super nice, and I didn’t get in any trouble!
It was the scariest day of my life but now it’s really fun to laugh at! Hope you enjoyed!

What’s up guys! Long time no comment but I’m back baby!! I wanted to get Mases take on how my Sooners did at the senior bowl and the week of practice. Between Stephenson, Humphrey, Ealy, Tre Brown, and Tre Norwood, are there any that you could see as good fits or potential draftees in Denver? I personally would love to have Rhamondre Stephenson in Denver because of how hard to bring down he is and no defender wants to tackle that man one on one and is a surprisingly very good receiver out of the backfield!

MY BOYS!
I’m really sorry for the second comment. I just wanted to say that I’m really disappointed regarding the recent developments at quarterback. I love Drew, but I really wanted Matt. It made me so happy thinking about the chance of getting into the playoffs again. Alas, it may be a few years before that happens. Now, on this unfortunate day, would you all mind giving me a couple of your favorite Broncos memories? I just want to smile thinking about the good old days. Thanks for everything.
Much love,
Sebastian

What are the limits of what Watson could do to force a trade? Like I get that he can hold out but couldn’t he also just show up and force them to bench him? Show up to practice and collect his paychecks but then refuse to really play?
What leverage does a team have at that point? What can they do to force him to play?

After QB – edge could be a top need if #58 is no longer with us. If Von is gone, is Edge more important or still CB? – let’s say we keep either Bryce or Bouye.

Looking more and more like it will be Drew starting for us again this year. If Woody Paige and Allbright are right the Broncos are out on and likely to bring in a Tyrod Taylor or Andy Dalton type, I am 90% sure Lock starts week 1. I know most won’t be excited at the prospect of this, but for me personally I look forward to seeing how Drew responds to adversity and makes adjustments working with renowned QB Coach Jordan Palmer. On the bright side, Drew’s first full season wasn’t as bad as Terry Bradshaw’s (6 TD, 24 INT). Go Broncos!

Wow, what the Rams paid for Stafford!!! Glad we stepped out. He’s not in my world enough to get us to Super Bowl wins, but would have put us just in the playoffs.
Mase, you remember Marino, he’s the older A Rod. I think Zac’s hot take is saying the A Rod is Marino version 2. Ranks up the stats, but can’t win the big game. Zac, is this the basis of your doubt of A Rod? It’s the only QB I can say matches A Rod in as long as I have watched the game. Marino = A Rod. One Super Bowl early and can’t get back. FYI, young people, Marino lost, but they fit each other.
Zac, you agree?

Well now that the Stafford talks are over (What a deal for the Lions btw) I pose a question for you guys today that could change everything. If the Denver Broncos were to sign The Nuggets starting 5 and MPJ, what positions would they play? I have Jokic at TE and Porter at LB, man would I hate to see someone like MPJ coming downhill full speed hitting me. What do you guys think for them? Happy Monday hope everyone is staying positive and testing negative.
jayesem17
Forgot to ask in my first comment, what do you guys think of the Arenado trade? I’m still in denial personally but some Breckinridge brews definitely helped me get through the night the news broke.
larrydennjr
Ok so Stafford’s out …duhhh lol ……
But I feel vindicated !!
Given that th deal breaker was drew ? I was right you get stafford as a rental as you develop drew
Albright also said john had no say in this …that this was Paton call
Paton wants to upgrade the position but not be reckless if it’s not DESHAUN ? Then we’re going to push Drew to be great at least I hope we can
So …. Would you be down to trade for wentz if it was a salary dump for the eagles and get a 1st round pick ?
We’d get vet competition and more CAPITOL to get the qb we want if things don’t work out what you guys think ?
larrydennjr
Sorry and I gotta say one more thing I hope.this works out for the rams ? But
Traded a first round pick for marcus peters he’s gone
Brandin cooks he’s gone
Traded a second for sammy watkins he’s gone
Two first rounders and 20 million a year for ramsey
They have to win a superbowl anything less is waste because idk where their future is ??
Just saying idk if this is an awesome trade idk
DCHawkGuy
Sup fellas? What is a realistic trade to bring Watson to Denver now that Stafford blew up the market like GameStop.. and what would The Broncos of had to give up to get Peyton Manning back in 2012 if he wasn’t a free agent at the time?
MavBronco
Houston wants 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 young defensive starters
Do you think 40, next year 1 and 2, 2023 1st and Chubb/ Simmons would be attractive enough?
Leaves 9 to trade back and recoup a first or second rounder. RK will say YES!!! What about everyone else?
Thanks for the pod as always!
Another Ryan
MY BOYS! I am relieved that Denver did not foolhardily decide to trade for Matthew Stafford based on the compensation that ended up being required. It’s looking more and more like Drew Lock, a better backup, and Brett Rypien will be the quarterbacks for the Broncos in 2021, which I can live with. The Broncos definitely need a better backup to push Drew, preferably a younger player like Jameis Winston (I think he’ll get more money and a better chance to be a starter elsewhere like in Indianapolis possibly), Gardner Minshew, or Jacoby Brissett, and to send Lock to the bench if he starts out the season poorly or gets injured again. If the Broncos decide to roll with Lock, who is your number one preferred veteran hedge as of this first day of February, and who do you think the hedge ultimately ends up being? Have a magical Monday. DNVRMY SALUTE!
PigTosser66
So it appears we are officially looking to upgrade the QB position with the report that we had a 1st rounder on the table for Stafford. Good to know that it doesn’t look like it will be just running it back with Lock as the clear cut starter.
Stafford was a clear upgrade and obviously Watson would be too. Who else are clear upgrades that are available in your guys’ opinion?
Would Lock beat out Darnold? Winston? Trubisky? Mariota?

Yo yo yo my boys just wanted to say bleep Kansas let tb12 win another got to say i hate the chief’s more than i hate tom lets go Buccaneers

Hi Guys
Every year my wife gets me a Bronco calendar for Christmas. I always joke “gee I wonder what this is”. I don’t know how far ahead they make these calendars but there is always one or two guys no longer on the team and by the end of the year somebody gets cut or traded. So this is the 2021 list. Who do you think makes the team.
1 DeMarcus Walker
2 Philip Lindsay
3 Kareem Jackson
4 JuWaun James
5 Andy Janovich
6 Dalton Risner
7 Noah Fant
8 Drew Lock
9 Von Miller
10 Royce Freeman
11 Courtland Sutton
12 Bradley Chubb
