So we aren’t trading “those two players” despite reports back and forth…thank goodness. I don’t understand the desire to make that room worse in exchange for draft capital.

I’ve realized that the Russel Wilson trade may be the universe’s way of balancing out the spoil of riches we received from the Duchene trade. Let’s dive in… A talented but disgruntled star gets traded to a team that’s thought to be “one piece away”. The trade package included 7 pieces, 3 players & 4 picks. The players included a former first rounder, a former 2nd rounder, and a veteran who would only stay around for 1 season. The 4 draft picks received were highlighted by a first round pick that would go on to become a top 5 selection following a disappointing and shocking season. The top 5 selection would give the team who traded their star player a chance at drafting a bonafide-stud defensive player (Bo Byram & Will Anderson/Jalen Carter). Following the catastrophic trade, Duchene would go on to play less than 2 years in Ottawa before being dealt again. Will Russ have similar fortunes? For the record I think Russ bounces back and has a good year, but the dramatic parallels are certainly interesting!!
