Hey guys,

There’s a big crowd of Broncos Country that’s obsessed with coddling Drew Lock, and I get it. But in the wake of all of this controversy, isn’t this almost perfect for him?

He faced constant controversy at Mizzou and came out on top of it almost always. From a mental makeup stand point, Drew is the guy everyone in Dove Valley should be turning to, right?

Like always, appreciate the coverage guys!

Given the current situation, I’m glad Allen is starting. Lock needs practice reps to get ready for his first start. But there’s another angle too: the Browns and the Chargers are the only two winnable games left on the schedule, and this should prevent us from winning one of those, which will help in the draft.
Looking at the final standings after the last few seasons, there are times when one extra loss doesn’t matter at all. There are other times when one extra loss jumps you up 4 spots in draft position, which according to the draft value charts, can be worth 5 times more than the draft capital we got back for Sanders. Crazy!
I definitely do want Lock to get in there after the bye though. Honestly, if the defense can continue to keep teams around 15-20 points like they have been, Lock might be enough to inspire some real hope in Denver.

I am really concerned that the Broncos are so rigidly committed to the idea of Lock sitting for a year that they are getting ready to batten down the hatches and weather the storm with Brandon Allen, or maybe CJ Beathard.

If the Broncos organization has indeed reached the point where they are so inflexible that they cannot or will not adjust to the changing realities that arise every season, then it is incumbent on the trustees to remove whatever impediments are standing in the way of progress.

I hope by this time tomorrow Lock is practicing and this comment looks out of date, but like a lot of fans, my trust in the Broncos organization to make an honest self-assessment and rational choices is at an all time low.

Even if they don’t want Drew Lock in the game, at least get him PRACTICING! If he is not out there, they are screwing his career over!

You guys have said that they might know something we don’t. But even then, with how many times John came to Columbia and saw him, what is going on here? There is no reason why he shouldn’t be out there!

This just ticks me off so much because this could be an QB mismanagement of epic proportions. Like I said, other stuff may be hidden from view, but from what we’ve done since 2016, I wouldn’t be surprised if something bad isn’t happening!

Calm me down, fellas!

What might they know? No way he’s worse than Paxton or Flacco or Trevor or Sanchez or Brock is there? We traded up to get the kid, if he’s really not still hurt, let him play. I don’t care if he throws garbage in the VR or whatever they might not be liking. We gotta give this kid a chance in at least 4/5 real games to see what his deal is.

You guys have access to the coaches. Can you turn some of what you say on the podcast into questions? Can someone probe Fangio on what his offensive philosophy is? Can someone ask him why the Broncos are convinced that QBs have to play under center to win in the NFL when all over the NFL teams are winning with the QB primarily in shotgun? Can someone point out what the Redskins did with RGIII and ask him if he believes in adapting the offense to what the players do best?

Looking back at the draft, I still wish we would up drafted D.K. Metcalf instead of lock.just imagine Sutt on the left and metcalf on the right, we would have the best wide out duo for years to come. I know it’s unfair to say due to lock being injured. Hope we see lock play this year. How many draft picks will the Broncos use in linemen in the next draft you think? If only we could clone Risner lol

I loved the energy on this emergency pod. Especially Mase, who this question is for.

How in the world were you able to put on a smile when reporting for the last two seasons on the team’s website?

The world of suck continues. I thought John Elway based a QB’s value on not only his height but also his 3rd down conversion percentage. Flacco’ was ugly. 2 for 12 or something in that range. What the bleep are we doing with this guy? Tebow was more entertaining than this. If we had Tebow in those two given redzone opportunities( because of the two penalties against the Colts), he probably would of gotten a TD because he would have run it in and run over anyone in his way. I’m sooooo sick of Flacco. I can’t watch him anymore! For the love of God and Broncos Country, ship Flacco somewhere else…Anywhere!!!!!!

No pods from Broncos facilities any longer? What’s up with that ? Whatever, you will be rolling from cars and bars then, right?

Maybe when Elway and co are living in a van down by the river the team will let pods back in? In the mean time just put on your Mile Klis masks and you’ll be ok.

It’s crazy that the house that John helped build has become
The shanty he’s tearing down with his front-office chicanery.

I think I’ll go to my chambers and Gus frerotte my head for a bit.

Are people really mad at John Elway about our backup quarterback situation when our starter was Joe Flacco ? What were you expecting? Some caviar with your McDouble ? Stop bitching and support the team. Yeah it’s a world of suck right now, but guess what… this is how sports work!! Sometimes you go through a few rough years to have a great year, look at the 49ers and many other teams across the league. I’m the first one to say that coaching and management is screwing up the Lock stuff, but it will be okay. The world is not going to end if Drew Lock is delayed to start. I realize he isn’t the talent Mahomes is, but Mahomes didn’t have a full half season before he put up MVP numbers. Just be happy we’re not trying to decide between Tebow(love him but cmon) and Orton. Sorry for the rant, great content as always, cheers.

Just subscribed for the year boys, and Zac I got you on the code baby. Love you guys and happy to join the DNVR fam. I have been raised from berth a broncos fan but living 60 miles west of Chicago broncos diehards like myself to connect with are few and far between. For starters not sorry about the long comment as I have been freeloading for some time and got a lot to let out.
1. Couldn’t stand hearing any more about strawberry sky so I used the beer locator and hunted a case down, although options were scarce I was successful and all I can say is: Damn good beer.
2. RK- great article and I 100% agree with you this watered down wanna be offense is BRUTAL. But to I guess play devils advocate, it’s hard not to see what’s happening in San Fran and think it’s not the scheme it’s more a fault of the guy behind the play sheet. Albeit not many are baby shanny.
3. I have not been one of the fans calling for elways job the last few years, I’ve been consistent in thinking that the Duke has gotten better (especially these past two years) with evaluating and drafting and honestly felt better about him turning this around. It came to a crest when he hired the man to coach that I had been pining for since midway through last Season in Vic (Chicago ties) But the mishandling of our shiny 2nd round toy might be the straw that breaks this camels back. ?7.

Thanks for everything boys.

This management of drew lock is worse than that of paxton lynch. Is Brandon Allen our new trevor Siemian? I highly doubt they will give themselves enough time to evaluate lock before the end of the season in turn i dont think there is a real chance we take a qb in the draft. Any news on the ownership front cause that may be our only hope at this point. RIP 2019 BRONCOS

Although I agree with what everything you guys are saying on how stupid it is to not let lock practice. Why arent these tough questions asked during media time? Specifically in the handling of a young qb , across the league the mentality is find what you have. What recent success do the Broncos have with a young qbs that show their methods work? Are you guys prevented from asking these types of questions?

Hey boys. My grades for the 1st. & 2nd. quarters of 2019 seemed to be hard to understand, so the bottom line @ the midterm = ” D! ” D grade = a bad football club. Joe maybe going on IR? I wonder who failed to touch wood for him? Starting a game against an NFL team with a backup QB with 0 plays in an NFL game and a new backup rookie QB also with 0 plays in an NFL game means the Broncs have a 0 chance of winning!!! ? Aloha RK, Z-Money and Mase!

I predict that Drew will not make an appearance this season. If Elway and company felt that Drew was the future you’d expect them to at least want him out there continuing his development. Forget starting… but just out on the field learning… practicing!!!!

For whatever reason, John doesn’t want Lock to be an option at all this season. One would argue that they truly want to give him a full red shirt year and “not rush him.” But wasn’t it Elway who once said that he believes its more valuable to start young QBs right away rather than letting them sit?

Vic is normally a confident, sure handed straight shooter. His demeanor and measured words in the press conferences as of late has been quite different though. On Monday Fangio stood at the press conference with both hands in his back pocket. Unusual body language for him that suggests he’s on defense. After announcing Allen would start, Vic took a big gulp of air before saying that they have to decide between Bret and Lock as the backup. The fact that they have to decide between a second round pick and a UDFA is bizarre.

Going back to my prediction, what you guys think of the idea that Elway doesn’t believe that Lock is the future, that he’s doing everything in his power to sideline him to avoid a Tebow scenario (where Drew balls out and becomes a fan favorite), and he’s buying time till he can draft Herbert in 2020?

Mase, I love your honesty and I can hear the pain in your voice when bemoaning about the pathetic shambles this once great team has become. But you gotta stop saying sorry for doing so. Most of us fans feel the same way and it’s placating to hear someone of your standing valid our own thoughts.

P.S. I got up at 3am before my workday to watch that rubbish game.

Hey fellas, just subscribed. Your podcasts help get me through the work morning over here in the Isle of Man. I was surprised to hear a few weeks ago that you had another listener from the Isle of Man as well. My friend over here also listens to you guys and it seems as if you have a bit of a fanbase on this small island.

My questions is in regards to the Broncos potentially having too much invested in Drew Lock to give up on him this year if he doesn’t pan out. When they traded back last year from 10 to 20, they got an additional second round pick and third pick this year. They used the second round pick as part of the deal to trade up for Drew. If they were to give up on Drew after one year, that would mean the Broncos would only have technically got an additional third round pick for dropping 10 spots. Surely that would be gross negligence on Elway’s part and something he wouldn’t willingly want to do.

Anyways, keep up the good work as always guys.

Hey guys. Having watched and been a true blue(and orange) fan for the last 50 years, i have to admit I am as disappointed as when Oakland killed us in the josh Mcdaniels era, (maybe his last game). I spent many years in corporate America and it appears to me that perhaps the coaches are operating within tight guideline or limits. is Elway a puppet master and not letting the coaches adjust to the personnel? Doesn’t sound like him. I am in the tank for John, because I remember the franchise before John.
Game Manager as an example, if that is the mantra, it is the explanation why on 3rd and 5 we run. Does Joe have the ability to opt out of a call? But Scangs has to see it, doesn’t he? His job has to be on the line, why wouldn’t he open it up? Is our personnel that bad, the O line is.

As far as Drew Lock is concerned, I have a belief that the pro personnel people are generally pretty smart, and not getting him back, I am afraid is an indication that he is nothing more than a backup. We need a left tackle, we need a right guard. I am afraid we need a QB as well. Noah Fant has been a disappointment. every game he has one or two critical mistakes, a drop, a penalty or a missed assignment. The other issue for me is our special teams are awful, I suspect the overall lack of talent hurts.

Now the positive, The D is good, real good, we have uncovered some good young players, still need another DL, LB, and CB for depth and upgrade, still need to cover tight ends.

He is no Steve Atwater or Kennoy Kennedy, but I am really excited that a Razorback will finally start for the ole Blue and Orange this Sunday. I know that the future is Drew Lock, but I think everyone is writing Allen off too quickly. Playing for Arkansas, Allen has a lot of experience behind terrible offensive lines…maybe he will surprise Broncos Country…if not, it’s on to Drew Lock after the Bye!

Mase, what is the #1 reason Steve Atwater hasn’t already been inducted into the Hall of Fame? Or do you think it’s a combination of factors working against him?

At risk of sounding like a total moron, would y’all be able to explain this IR rule in regard to the Lock situation? It was my understanding that he would not be eligible to play for another 2-3 weeks once brought back to practice. However, everyone is talking as if Lock is eligible to be a backup this coming weekend? Thanks guys

I used to have a show called Sports Jar in the Car where we would interview different people athletes from around the JuCo I attended. What a nice little call back for me.

Allen is the kind of move that would backfire when he messes up and wins some games.

We’ve bashed him all year but no one wants him hurt. I hope Flacco recovers quickly. With as many time as hes been hit this year with the poor O-line play I’m honestly surprised he lasted this long.
