Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos are looking for the team’s next franchise quarterback after releasing Russell Wilson.
With NFL free agency beginning, are the Denver Broncos locked in on Sam Darnold, Jameis Winston, Jacoby Brissett or Jimmy Garoppolo? Or could the Denver Broncos trade with the New York Jets for Zach Wilson or the Washington Commanders for Sam Howell?
If Sean Payton does either move, does this mean the team won’t go after a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft? Or would Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr, Oregon’s Bo Nix or UNC’s Drake Maye still be on the board?
That and more is discussed on the DNVR Broncos Podcast mailbag.

I am LOVING how free agency is going. Every QB signing with a different team feels like a bullet dodged. I for one have embraced the demolition process of the rebuild, though I can tell this is not a universal view from my twitter feed.
Lets face it, we got lucky that Peyton worked out. We honestly got lucky that Tim Tebow worked out.
Is that a hot take? So many young QBs are on their second team. I’d guess it is 4x more likely a QB doesn’t last their entire rookie contract on the same team. That means the worst thing we can do is trade assets to move up in the draft, in my opinion.
That’s why I’m advocating for what I call the “Tebow Method”. Build up an offensive squad that can support a suspect QB first, then get your guy. Previously, this was plug and play Peyton Manning. This time, I think we build out a robust line, reliable targets, and tank for as high a QB as we can draft in 2025. Do you think, aside from claims otherwise, that this is what SP is doing?
