What up fellas and welcome in Mase! That game made me real sick to watch but hopefully, there are better things to come with what Vic and the rest of the mob can do. Maybe a loss early is something the Broncos need if we compare it the way the past 2 seasons and what transpired after early wins. That’s me being overly optimistic to annoy Zac!

Ryan, I’m a man of my word I know you Email can be a black hole but if you check it you’ll see that there is an audio clip for our bet for the CSU v CU game. Do with it what you wish ): …….. Sorry it took so long I wasn’t trying to dodge the bet it just took longer then I thought to get it to you after my 24 hours of travel to Australia, then getting settled into my new residence just in time to watch that awful Monday night game which aired at 12:20 pm for me on Tuesday!…….. The time difference is crazy.

Hi guys.

1. Awesome coverage from start to finish for the week of the game. This is my first season as part of the family and holy geez y’all do a heck of a job. Best I’ve heard/seen.

2. I’m not worried. At all. I stand by my “everything is new and it takes time” take. They will get it lined out and this game will be a learning experience. Last season the Colts started 1-4 I believe and made the playoffs. It is a different team but a few similarities with new coaching staff etc.

3. Mr B.

4. I know it’s been shot down but why not bring in the tackle from the Skins and move Bolles to RT? If we are in win now mode plus the fact that James is hurt (again), that kind of makes sense to do for now and the future.

5. Zac: The hot Pocket video was awesome but there is no reason any one should be eating that. Ever. Plus, straws have 2 holes.

6. I heard it’s Bear season, time to hunt.

7. For John.

Just want to start by saying I was all for Yiadom through the preseason and it pains me to say this, but we will lose every game that he starts in. Also, a block in the back on a fair catch?! ?‍♂️ We need to just let Clemson take our place in the NFL… and this Broncos team would probably still go 5-7 in the dumpster fire that is ACC football. On a positive note: Callahan’s return will definitely have a noticeable improvement on the defense and I hope Winfree and Riddick’s return will get something going on offense. Someone needs to light a fire under their buns or they will go 0-16. My only question is who do you think we draft with the #1 overall pick?

Hey guys. Not commented in a while, still recovering from the 3.20am start for the Raider game. I honestly felt like it was still preseason. There was no intensity or enthusiasm until it was too late. Our running game misses Jano so much. Risner and Sutton were a shining light on a dark day. My question is, do we put Heuerman in as fullback to create some holes for Phil to run into, until Jano is back, and line Fant up as Tight End?
P.s Welcome to the BSN family Mase. Great to have you adding to the great content BSN already provide.

Hey guys, after Monday nights game my username may no longer be true 🙁

In all seriousness but, am
I the only one that seems bothered with the way Vic spoke to the media. So eerily similar to last year. There seems like there is zero fire or desire when he speaks. Maybe a massive overreaction, but we literally just lost to our division rival. One game in, I understand, but set a standard early in your tenure Vic. Maybe it’s different behind closed doors, but I basically see the same bs we’ve been served the last two years.

Would love to hear what you think cheers

Side not regarding the booth, our home grown game Australian Rules, every single coach, coaches from the booth, definitely worth looking at if vic feels more comfortable there. Something tells me Vic won’t or wouldn’t be a trend setter tbh

Gday gents,

After a very frustrating Tuesday afternoon watching the game the first time, and 24 hours of low burning rage and grief afterwards, I decided to rewatch the game. I am little calmer now as I’m not sure they were quite as bad as they felt to watch in the heat of the moment.

You answered two of my previous questions in your Tuesday (damn good) pod, (though they didn’t seem to actually get read out) but I have another for you;

If the raiders were able to scheme the broncos pass rush out of the game so effectively, and move the ball the way they did (painfully) 3.5 and a half yards at a time – why didn’t teams do this to Chicago last year? Vic’s calling just didn’t seem to deal with it well at all – or is it all personnel?

P.S still waiting on those Colorado tips for my mate and I for when we touchdown in Denver in October!

Hi guys and welcome Mason.
I stay up until almost 3 am, here in Brazil, watching the Broncos lose once again for the Raiders, wondering when this purgatory will end. One thing i notice is Bolles was not called for holding, And i ask, Did he improve over all or just could’t make the hold? Second question is why did we struggle so much in short third downs and why so many tackle for loss?
And about Antonio Brown, I wold like to point at a Brazilian soccer player Neymar JR rape accusation early this year that the investigations showed to be an extortion case against the player.
Well, hope to be a good practice week( hahaha ) and beat the Bears.
Thank you and keep up the good work.

Hey guys with the news of John calling around to some corners with Callahan possibly being out a while, why not take a flyer on Eric Berry? He was still good last year and is an extremely intelligent player. Why not bring him in then just play Jackson at corner like he has his whole career. I understand that maybe u don’t wanna move players around, but how could it be that bad if Berry is no good then cut him, if he balls when Bryce comes back your secondary is stacked

The biggest problem with this team that I am sensing is that it seems like no one cares that much, they may care but not that much. They don’t really want it. Which is a HUGE factor in competition sports, is want to.
The Broncos came out like they were just at work on a Monday morning, the Raiders came out ready to beat the shit out of someone. Seems like half our players are just there to collect checks.
Great Player vs. Great Player and the one who wants it most wins 9 out of 10.

And the same bs after the games. Take Von for example. He isn’t even mad. Saying the same old bs he’s been saying after games the past 3 years. “I need to do more” yeah no shit Von thanks for the obvious. Get mad or something. We need that Von from the Arizona game last year every week or we are in trouble.
And what a horrible and arrogant comment by Shelby Harris. Why would you not listen to the most energized person who actually wants it just because he’s young. They rather to listen to competent vets who don’t get mad or care enough. What a stupid stupid comment. Lost some respect right there. That’s not something teammates should say. They really don’t want to win with that attitude. Says a lot about this team tbh..

The lack of energy and urgency will be the death of this team.

Fangio needs to bring back some music or something.

Sorry for long comment. Just really irritated by the chemistry and vets on this team.

As many others have noted, the most shocking thing about the game was just how listless and uninspired the Broncos looked compared to the Raiders. No one looked like they were fired up to get the season started. I then started thinking back to the grumbling that was coming out during training camp about the length of Fangio’s practices and how much time the players were spending in pads, with one anonymous player even saying that Kubiak never would have allowed this. I know there are different philosophies on this. Mike Shanahan believed in not beating up your own guys. So I was wondering if maybe this affected the players in one of two ways. Are they just beaten up and worn down from an extra long offseason full of extra long practices? Or is there resentment towards the coaching staff that is leaving then flat and uninspired? Pro Football Focus gave Von Miller his worst grade ever and noted how off he looked. Are some of the veterans who never got over losing Wade Phillips just not buying into Fangio’s way of doing thing?

Hey guys,

RK, just accept the fact Justin Herbert is coming!

I am on Mase’s side. When Yiadom gets burned as bad as he did, Jackson should have been rotated in as outside cb, no matter how much work he did in the scheme he is a good enough player to not look a fool like Yiadom, and Parks should have filled in at safety.

What changes MUST happen for this team to even have a chance to get to the 8-8 9-7 predictions that you made before the season?

Oh and one other thing, everyone I talk to is mad at Fant for his block in the back that negated the pass, watch it again. Why is the tight end (pass catching TE btw) blocking the DE all alone while your tackle is standing there flat footed with no one in front of him. Personally I give Fant credit otherwise Joe would have be lit up or at least forced a throw.

No one questions that Fangio is a defensive genius. If the media was allowed one question where it was guaranteed the answer would be open and honest, what could his answer possibly be about not rushing 3 to counter the quick passes? In other words, there had to be a reason why he didn’t, what could it possibly be? Better to have a good plan that failed than no plan at all, and I’m just trying to find some hope.

Hey guys, it took me a day to mentally work through what went on
1: stop betting the farm on injury prone players. They are cheaper but part time employees usually are

2: we need a rebuild, three of your best 5 players are 30+ and you can’t win 6 games. Time to reboot. Elways drafting has gotten better but it’s not good enough to fill a ton of holes every year
3:

4: draft o line early and often until you fix this nightmare that game Monday would’ve looked a lot better if you had Nelson over Chubb. Chubb played great last year but what good did that do?

5: 2/5ths of your offensive line is injury prone, one is awful, one might be able to snap the ball. Maybe. And the best piece is a rookie

6: if a Veteran says a second year player cannot be a leader trade him or cut him immediately He is part of the problem( I don’t remember who it was doesn’t matter) everyone but lock Chubb Lindsay and Risner are expendable.

7:

8: fangio needs time to get HIS guys.

9: Philly steak hot pockets are my favorite, I’m not sorry.

10: Monday night looked like a pick up football game you wandered up on in the park.

11: SKO BUFFS (they could’ve given Oakland a better game)

There’s so many emotions I’m still working through. I’ll do my best to nutshell shell some of them.
1) My lil Phillip Lindsay. I didn’t think I could love that kid anymore, but that pass blocking did it. Even though he literally took one for the team and got mowed over, it did it’s job giving Flacco the time he needed to make a play.
2) I was thinking that Gum Balls didn’t have a holding, I must have missed it during a trip to the restroom. Our O line better step up. Except Risner. He’s our only bright spot.
3) Mr. B
4)Hasn’t it been 5 years since we won a game in the Black hole? We really have struggled there these days. It seems to be the only place we don’t have the stands orange. I’m sure it will change come next season. That away home field advantage is a real thing in Broncos County.
5) 77 on the Raiders O line is a freakin mountain of a man. He makes Wolfe look small. We have our hands full and have to adjust to that.
6) We need Callahan. I’m trying so hard to be patient with Yadom. It gets harder and harder as the weeks go on.
7) Elway
8) As I’m thinking of how I want to word the pass/run percentage, Mase takes the words right out my mouth. Just a bit more technical. We need more Lindsay!!!!
9) I know there’s not a lot to be excited about after Monday’s game. With all our shiny new toys, I absolutely refuse to overreact yet. However, come October I probably will be overreacting if things don’t change.
10) I think I’m gonna start signing off with my real name. Just as a reminder.

Love ya fam!!!
Patience

Its looking like not signing resigning Matt Paradis this offseason might be the biggest loss we had. While McGovern didn’t look awful against Oakland I thought Leary looked very bad and it’s only a matter of time till he’s hurt again and I thought towards the end of last year Connor really made progress at guard. I’m just tired of this o-line looking atrocious going back to Peyton’s time.

Hey guys.

Maybe I’m beating a dead horse with this question, but WHO the heck is the energy person on this team? It was so upsetting watching Joe Flacco and Von Miller just walking off the field with their shoulders slumped when things weren’t going well. When Lindsey started to get hot in the second half I was hoping to see him get fired up and smack the butts of his linemen to get them hyped, but I never saw it.
Just a story to give you an idea of what I want to see:
I played club ultimate for Boise State and during one tournament we were leading in a game. After halftime we started to fall apart, lost the lead, and the momentum. I got subbed into the game, and broke up a possible scoring play that would have gotten us further behind. I was so frustrated with how the team was playing that after that play I started yelling/screaming at the sideline and my players saying, “let’s f@#$ing go!” and other such comments. We started to play better, and my teammates told me after the tournament that it helped them get back into the game. It got them hyped.
Where is that on this Denver team?
I’m certainly not a stud at ultimate, and definitely not a professional athlete, but what is wrong with players doing that in a game?

Thanks for all of your insight and I hope this comment gives some perspective on what is missing on this team.

On a somber note, on the 18th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, I want to say thank you to all of our first responders and military officers for all your sacrifices so we can sit here and watch Zac eat a hot pocket and be upset by a silly game.

Now BSN Fam, In the words of Aaron Rodgers… R-E-L-A-X!

The sky is not falling. This is a team of mostly Vets. The just got punched in the mouth after going in uninspired and rather lackadaisical. I’m chalking this up to a week 1 trap game until proven different. Yiadom was exposed and should’ve been rotated but at the same time sometimes struggles like this are needed to build up success.

On the subject of college QB’s I’ve never been a fan of Herbert, personally I’m a ride or die Jake Fromm guy. I love his upside and his overall passion for the game. After QB1 and his success at Georgia, I am sold.

Keep on rocking guys! Can’t wait for the HIGHLY anticipated follow up album to Oh Lordy Mama!

What’s up guys! It’s been a while since I’ve commented, but I need your input on a debate I’ve been having with my friend (who is a Bears fan).
What are you guy’s thoughts on PFF rankings? Do the grades accurately represent a players performance?
The Broncos didn’t have high grades after Monday nights performance, which was expected and I accept it. My friend on the other hand believes the Bears are a top 5 defense who held Aaron Rogers to 10 points and is upset that their collective PFF grade is 65%.
I’m intrigued to hear you guy’s thoughts on this topic!

September 11, 2019

I’m reposting to this point because I didn’t quite get it on the one for yesterday. I know you guys have covered most of this by now, but figured I’d go ahead and repost!

I’m very sorry for this long comment, but I have a lot of post-game thoughts. Most of my comments aren’t like this.

I mean we played like absolute dog ?. We got beat in all five facets: Offense, defense, special teams, coaching, and ourselves. Piss poor performance from all five. A couple of quick notes; how do you not call that facemask to Flacco’s dome on third and goal, but instead, call a ticky-tack holding call? Garbage. And how, in 2019 on God’s green earth, are we still playing on a DIRT football field? I mean, what? Anyway, here’s my breakdown.

Individual players: Isaac yiadom put together one of the worst games of football from a DB I’ve ever seen. Just horrible. Chubb and Miller: literally non-existent. That part was embarrassing. Carr had zero pressure in his face for all 26 attempts. Zero. Unacceptable. Desean Hamilton: in a way, single-handedly cost us the game. Bad, bad day for him. Lastly (for now), Juuwan James being hurt is a major issue.

Coaching decisions: running the ball on first and ten…. Every. Single. Time. Tried running trick plays (swinging gate) at horrible times. Trying to kick a 64-yard field goal off of dirt for his first (or second kick) of the year. You might as well throw the hail Mary, there was a 0% chance he makes that. (To his credit, given the circumstances, fantastic kick. I don’t blame him.) Playing Yiadom 8 yards off of the receiver on third down to end the game? Inexcusable. Gotta take your chance on press coverage there, even though he’s been terrible. Almost no blitzes all night with no pressure on Carr? I don’t get it. Another thing was the lack of deep balls and play action. In my opinion, you can’t kick that last field goal. 8 minutes left in the game and even if you don’t get the first down, you’re still down two possessions. To be fair, I think if Flacco doesn’t get sacked the play before, they go for it. I’m sure there’s more, but I’ll stop there for now.

Time for some positives.
Great, great game from Cortland Sutton. Good for him, he needed that. Emmanuel Sanders, Phillip Lindsay, and Royce Freeman also looked very good. Flacco’s deep ball looked good, the ONE time they threw it. Noah fant had a decent game, kinda back and forth from him, but it’s his first game as a rookie. I’ll cut him a break.

The biggest positive of all:
Time for what you’ve all been waiting for. As badly as I think we got beat in all facets of the game, we only lost by 8 to a Raiders team that played FLAWLESSLY at home on a dirt field that only they are used to. They (Raiders) won’t play that well again, mark my words, and we still stayed in the game despite shooting ourselves not only in the foot, but in both arms, and once where the sun don’t shine. We handed them that game and still had a chance to win it. This team will be fine, but they need a quick turnaround. A real quick one, for our sanity and their own. I’m confident in this coaching staff’s ability to turn things around, I don’t think this season is a bust yet!

That’s all for now, thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Sorry about the long comment, but we love you guys and can’t wait to hear what you have to say. Go Broncos!

Been in the Army for 11 years, I’m a sniper and infantryman and did 1 combat tour in Iraq. Me and the wife plan on moving to the Colorado area to finish school soon. For our anniversary we went up to Colorado and explored all the awesome places I’ve learned from you guys on this damngoodpod. I’ve been listening to this pod since the beginning, not even kidding i’ve logged 600+ hours of your pods lol. I was able to meet you guys at the Blakestreet Tavern and enjoy a few cold snacks and get some great merch as well and even got a wave from Ziggles during the pod lol. Just crazy the stars were to align that way, I had to explain to the wife “no way I planned this, it just worked out” she thought it was great. last, but not least welcome Mase! Never thought you’d land here, but super glad you did. You do a great job educating us on events as a person and Broncos fan that I never would have learned and for that I thank you! If we go 0-6 then ill be rooting for #Drewlockmas he’s the one thing that keeps me optimistic, much luv guys subscribe if you haven’t! Boys,

I love how Zac said “inconvenient truth” when Mase said that he didn’t want to mention anybody’s name in the media about the Broncos game, yet he did 5 seconds later. I was thinking the same thing.

It was a hard game to watch. I get really annoyed when our head coaches look completely inept on the sidelines. The MNF cameras would show Fangio with a look of complete confusion and lack of energy. Same when they showed Chubb and Von standing next to each other while the offense kept getting penalty after penalty. I hate it! This team needs to wake the F@#k up. These are games that matter now… the Preseason is over.

Would the Broncos ever bring in Peyton Manning as an offensive consultant? Help the Offensive players in the film room and give Skangs some tips on what he would do in situations against certain defensive looks? I’m tired of seeing an offense score only 16-17pts a game.

Boys! It’s been a while. I’m not saying I’m throwing in the towel already, but what if we actually go 0-16 and get the first overall pick? What would the price be for a guy like Tua? Would his hype be enough to get an additional first round pick for 2 years? 3 years? 5 years??

On a serious note, Von looked unenthusiastically slow. I hope he (or someone who can relay this message to him) reads this comment. Is Von still good?

September 11, 2019

I know it’s hard trying to find the positives from Monday’s game, but as bad as we played we still had a chance to win if not for the dropped TD and missed 64 yard FG before half. There is still alot to fix but it’s just game 1, no need to overreact as a fanbase…yet.

What’s up y’all,

After having some time to digest the sadness I had to watch on Monday night (I wasn’t even angry honestly I was mostly sad) I’ve come away with some optimism. No one was expecting too much from our team this year, and if we don’t do well that’s fine. It sucks to see, but could be our best path to the soonest super bowl. I have no problem with us getting great draft capital for next year, and then try to accumulate multiple first round picks. After that go get a LT as well as the goat Ceedee lamb(sorry Ryan he’s better than laviska) and then boom our offense is great. Drew lock, Sutton, a first round WR, Phil, and a bolstered OL would have me ready to go for the next 5 years at least. Gotta day I’m pretty sad that I’m having to look this far ahead after only one game, but dang Monday night was rough. Sorry for the long comment

Hey guys – reposting (almost) my comment from yesterday, that got lost in the case of the missing pod – seems like all the comments ended up on Ryans piece about the Broncos’ mentality.

Coincidentally, that’s also some of what my comment is about.

I know that there might be talent issues, and that’s why we can’t cover tight ends or protect the quarterback. However…

1. You would have hoped the redzone woes would be fixed with a new scheme and coordinator – apparently they’re not.
2. You would have hoped the mental mistakes (holdings and such) would be fixed with a new coaching staff – apparently they’re not.
3. Retired for Mr. B of course.
4. You would have hoped the game management would be improved – but apparently it’s not.

With a whole new coaching staff, why, of why(!), do these problems persist?

At least there’s a good chance the mental mistakes can be fixed before next week. Maybe. Hopefully. Or the intensity issues… Right? RIGHT?

Last thing: Welcome Mase – truly a fantastic addition to an already fantastic podcast. Keep up the good work all three of you.

Hey Guys! Listening to the last pod, you mentioned that generational gap between players. When I heard that I cringed because that shows that the vets on this team believe they can’t learn anything from these young players. If this is true, I am 100% in on trading these players before the dead line this season and get some quality draft picks and get our future. The 2015 vets are gone and 2018 leaders ie. Lindsay, Sutton and Chubb take over as the leaders of this team. They are your future. I would be okay with us not succeeding this year and clear those guys out and build from what we have. Thoughts?
