I do have an issue with Marshall’s method of protest that I haven’t heard anybody talk about (possibly because I don’t follow mainstream media). By kneeling during the national anthem, a lot of Broncos fans were offended who might be in agreement with and in full support of Brandon Marshall’s stance. With an important issue like this that is also surrounded by confusion, that was an awful way to get the conversation started. Sure, it was noticed, but not in the way that it deserved to be.

We stand during the national anthem because of the values it represents and the values that we as Americans aspire to see our culture live by. We stand, even though we are aware of, for example, human trafficking – possibly the most egregious crime against humanity – taking place in our country. That does not mean that we are unaware of it and certainly we do not support it. In many ways, standing for the anthem IS standing against social injustice – because injustice goes against our core values.

I think Marshall’s voice would be strengthened if he chose to stand for the anthem. As for being one of the most hated Broncos players; I am very curious about the timing of that question. Was it asked during the height of the protest controversy?
