Reason to keep playing Keenum; to give him a chance to build chemistry with the rookies who are just now getting real playing time. Keenum (unfortunately) will almost definitely be our starter to begin next season.
Hogan almost definitely will never be a starter anywhere.

I love the Pod even when my opinion differs from yours. Keep up the great work.

I agree joe woods has done more than enough to keep his job.
in 3 of the 4 most important statistics sacks, takeaways, and points allowed the broncos are top 10 and the only stat they aren’t is 3rd down percentage where they are still average.
he has achieved this while playing against many of the top offenses in the league and with decent but uninspiring middle linebackers, poor safety play, and poor cornerback play outside of Chris Harris jr.
the only piece of this defense that you’d expect to be very impressive is the defensive line and outside linebackers and it could be argued that they have even surpassed those expectations.

the future for sustained success in the NFL for many reasons is devising gameplans that will maximize big defensive plays with very limited resources and then having a very good offense.
we appear to have one half in woods so this offseason has to be ALL about building the second half

After the pod on Monday I was curious to see how joe’s defense was really doing, and was rather suprised when looking at points allowed per game (In my opinion the most important stat) In the last 3 games the D allowed only 15.7 points, ranking them 6th, while allowing only 21.4 over the whole year ranking them 10th.

I then looked at how the offense was doing: 21.9 (21st), and considering how painful watching the Broncos offense is I would say making other offenses look worse then a Case Keenum offense isn’t all that bad. With all the young players Woods is working with I can’t imagine us getting a better coordinator on the market this offseason! Give him another year to develop his young players and he should put out a pretty good defense in my opinion!

Hey guys I’m not here to cry and complain about vj or the coaching staff, but is it me or is garret bolles actually playing good football right now?!

Hard to say “good” football, maybe he’s playing football. But while at the 49ers game, I saw what a true left tackle looks like in person. The way Joe Staley anchors in and engulfs any defensive end or linebacker was a breed of football I hadn’t seen from Denver in a while. Meanwhile, when Garrett would play, it was painfully obvious he was on skates in comparison. I get that Staley is a likely Hall of Famer, but wow, the gap is massive between what he is and what we have in Garrett, sadly.

“No one gets fired for going 8 and 8”?

Shanahan got fired by the Broncos after going 8 and 8 in 2008, didn’t he?

How much have you guys looked into the ownership debacle? I haven’t seen any stories on it here, but this situation is crazy. The more I look into it the more I think Beth Bolen probably has the right to own this team but Annabel Bolen want one of her blood children to get the reins. Annabel and Joe Ellis are close and from what I gather, that’s the reason Beth was fired from the team. I think the trust is in Annabel’s pocket and while they’re in charge none of Pat’s kids from his first marriage will gain control of the team. I think the lawsuit against the trust has some real teeth and might be the reason the story got out about not hiring Shanahan last season. As for this season, everyone talks about losing for draft position but I think the more valuable asset is coaching the Senior Bowl. The Broncos aren’t keeping Joseph next year so they probably have no shot at coaching it this year, but what about the teams in front of them? The Raiders and 49ers seem to be the top 2 candidates with returning coaching staffs. With the Raider’s stockpile of draft picks, that’s pretty scary to me.

After watching Sutton closely since replacing Demaryius Thomas, it looks like he has no juice in his legs. You guys raved about him during camp – do you see a noticeable drop off in his explosion at all? Obviously he’s physical to win those balls in the air, but outside of that, should we be expecting him to get more separation off the line, or make quick moves to open spaces a la Michael Thomas from the Saints? I’m afraid Courtland is essentially the current version of Dez Bryant, except he’s probably 10 years younger, please tell me I’m wrong and there’s hope on him destroying the Raiders on Monday night and breaking out.

Hey guys.. when it comes to articles like Woody Paige’s and are published, does the team usually do internal investigating on who the sources are? Thank you!

Building off your conversation about Case’s lack of control at the line: That sack to end the game is inexcusable. I’m not a football savant but that all out blitz was so predictable for Gregg Williams. They were coming off a stoppage on the clock and to not identify that to give themselves a chance is unacceptable. I just pray they attack this QB issue full on and quit applying bandaids to it.

Hey guys,

At first I thought Sua Cravens and Shane Ray were injured but then I saw they were healthy scratches. Understandably, they both were very upset by the decision. I can see why they hold Ray out as they want to see what Jeff Holland has. But why was Cravens inactive? I love Dymonte Thomas and thought he had a fantastic game, but shouldn’t we be trying to get Cravens as many reps as possible?
Also, I’ve been very impressed with Garrett Bolles. Do you guys think he has turned the corner? Is he a franchise left tackle?
As always, thanks and gig ’em

Wassup Zac and RK! With the focus now shifting to next season and all the shake ups likely to occur in the next few months, I have a different coaching question for you two. We all know that the Broncos are more than likely moving on from VJ after yet another abysmal season went down under his watch. The team is also likely heading towards a complete roster shake up with so many contracts coming due.

You guys are around the team so much on and off the field and I know you have a great feel for the pulse in the locker room. Do you have any particular coaches or even coaching styles that you feel this team will respond best to? What style of coach do you feel can get the most out of the incredibly young (but talented) roster without a complete purge and rebuild of the team from the ground up?

Thanks guys.
MUCH LOVE TO THE BSN FAM!

BadOne Log 15:

This is one of my most hostile comments so apologies in advance.

All this Mike Shanny talk the last 2 days is mindblowing to me. Only bad and desperate franchises bring back old coaching legends that should not be brought back. Raiders did it twice with Art Shell and Gruden, the Redskins did it with Joe Gibbs.. I would lose faith in our future if we just bring the “ol gang” back together. to Ryan’s point, Elway needs to actually do a proper HC search and not just hire the guy he favors like the last three hires. We didn’t want to hire Kyle Shanny who has the potential to be an offensive guru in this league for years to come, but we wanted to bring back his retired dad… that is a scare judgment call right. I think Joe Ellis did us a solid there and protected us from bringing back a beloved fan fav coach that has not been successful (aside from RG3 rookie year) or coached in a long time.

This Offseason needs to be about finding a new coaching staff, being aggressive in free agency (internal and external), and leveraging the 2020 draft picks to move up or back in the first round to get a QB, and CB or OL talent. The time to fix this is now! be aggressive and get this ship corrected.

Ya Boi,

Made this comment in the comments section on RK’s story. Meant it for the pod.

User name pronunciation guide: FL: Florida (where I’m from), Buff: like the CU mascot, where I went to school
Favorite Hot Pocket: Broccoli Cheddar

TLDR: keep Keenum and Vance, and Tank for Tua

I took advantage of the Black Friday deal, and wore my Lindsay Homegrown shirt to the game on Saturday (just like Phil!) I felt much the same with this Broncos team as this year’s CU team. Finding a way to win the early games (a hot start), then injuries and suspect coaching catch up with the team. Add in that the talent in many areas of the team (OL, QB, etc) is suspect, and this is what you get. Here’s my thought: keep Case, keep Vance, improve other areas (OL, MLB, CB) in the draft this year, and hope for a top 10 draft pick in the 2020 draft (Tua), as this year’s QB class is not exactly lighting it up. I’m not as high on Haskins as RK is, but I didn’t watch much Big 10 football this year. I’ll watch him in the Rose Bowl against Washington. What are your thoughts on keeping the status quo with the head coach and QB, with an eye to 2020?

With the consensus that Vance will be leaving. What happens to him. Do you think he will end up at another franchise. Do these guys go back and coach college or high school teams? Maybe we will see a book called “Vance – My years at Mile High”.

Thoughts on Jadeveon Clowney getting the probowl nod over Chubb? Quick comparison on their seasonal stats.

Chubb: 12 sacks Clowney: 8 Sacks
51 total tackles 37 total tackles
13 TFL 14 TFL
20 QB hits 17 QB hits
2 forced fumbles 0 forced fumbles
1 pass def. 0 pass def.

and no Texans fan even can make the defense that Bradley Chubb’s success comes from playing on the other side of Von Miller when Clowney has frickin JJ Watt opposite of him.

Conclusion: Chubb got robbed.

Hey BSN Family,
I thought I would try to lighten up the mood with everyone still down on the back to back loses. So I thought I would share a funny dream I had about the Broncos. It might not make sense but I thought it was funny.

It starts with me watching the new BSN Denver Network (yes, I am talking about a tv channel) when Breaking News comes across the TV: Phillip Lindsay is not human. As RK comes on to the screen to explain that John Elway just had a press conference that stated Lindsay was not human but a machine that he, Mike Shanahan, and Gary Kubiak made back in 1995. When Shanahan was first named coach of the Broncos, he knew the Broncos needed a run game if Elway was going to win a SuperBowl. Before the start of the 1995, the three of them sat down and drew up a perfect running back that they wanted. Thus, Phillip Lindsay was born. Then out of nowhere Terrell Davis made a name for himself. Elway and company decided to hold Lindsay back until they saw fit. Years had pass and it just didn’t fill right to show Lindsay to the world. Then the 2018 season rolled around and the trio thought the fan base needed a spark. Elway and company made sure Lindsay was not drafted. (Elway would not say how they made this happen.) It was also stated that the Broncos were not using Lindsay a lot as to “work out the bugs” but promised that he “would be used more in 2019”. (Quotes from Elway himself.)

End of dream. I had told some friends about this dream and they found it very entertaining. Hope that you guys and the BSN Family did too.

Been a min BSN family. Even tho I haven’t commented still been in the background listening and loving all the content and the new subscribers questions. Just more of a thought then a question. I know every1 is on the can VJ and case Keenum train. Which fans have every right. But hear me out. We’ve been competitive in all of our games this year barring the jets game. And maybe ravens. Which every team throws away 1-2 losses to below average teams every year it’s the NFL. Our losses have come in the likes of losing by 3,7, missed field goal. Against the juggernauts of the NFL. We’ve stood toe to toe with those teams. Yes we lost, but this year wasnt a superbowl or bust. It was a learning and building phase. Fans and Denver media would disagree. I feel like you retain VJ. Get rid of musgrave bc with the offensive weapons we have he doesn’t play to the strengths of our players. Calling horrible plays on 3 and short. No back shoulder throws the whole second half agaisnt the 49ers or browns?? Pitiful. If the butt pirates didn’t want him. Why does Denver insist on keeping this dinosaur?? Mean?? Harsh? Dont care it hurts watching the offense limp up and down the field the last 2 yrs. Keep Joe woods bc I like the bend dont break mentality on defense. Yes we are susceptible to big plays. And had horrible games. But did they put up more then 20 points? with the plans they have in place I feel like why rebuild when you have a good plan that’s working. Sort of. Injuries and bad offense and Keenum learning a new system and being the guy sometimes takes a year. Good teams dont change head coaches every year. Like someone else said belichick had a horrible win/lose starting out. I feel like VJ can be great if you get someone who can handle the offense better then what musgrave has done.I say the offense inability to put up points is what hindered this team this road plus injuries. I say can musgrave and get a better offensive coordinator. That will play to our players strengths. And VJ will handle the defense. But hey you can start all over and go with the unknown Thoughts?
